Cuetec Fires Strickland

Pool is very cruel to its own, and the American pool culture seems to enjoy beating up a champion by the name of Earl Strickland, one of their own. What a shame.

Nick figured out, if you can't beat em, join em. Has his own line of cues made overseas.

The statement by Cuetec was classless. It just puts an exclamation point on the billiard industry's m.o. Many pro athletes have been let go by sponsors but at least they don't point blank say what the issue was. Something to the effect, "We are choosing to go in a new direction, yada yada yada" would have been more appropriate then to single Earl out personally. I think Earl will be hard pressed to get a major sponsor until this dies down as Cuetec has done him much damage.

I don't think you could pay CW, MI, or TH enough money to play with such a garbage cue.

The lady sold out to an overseas company, Imperial, and this is how the overseas company treats one of the greatest American players in the history of pool. Shame on them for handling it in this manner.

You kidding.
Predators are made in China now.
CueTec matched Earl's tournament winnings dollar for dollar.
People cheered for Borg over McEnroe too.

it is about time that cuetec fired strickland they should have not let him be a sponser for them because he has a bad additude and he needs to be banned from pool forever so good job cuetec in getting earl strickland fired:) i am very happy to hear about this

thanks

Earl should not be banned from pool. Was cuetec called steel stix back in the day? Does anyone remember when he was playing with those cues? Anyone who can make a ball in pool knows cuetecs are total garbage cues. I personally don't know how they stay in business. The only reason any top player would play with one is because they get paid to. You will not find a top player using one for free!! I think cuetec is fouling up by getting rid of Earl even if he has a bad attitude. I do not think he should be banned from pool but maybe a timeout would be a good idea. Let him know when in tournaments he just can't take it as far as he does. I know they have talked to him before. I know nothing changed. Everyone gets mad here and there and expresses how they feel but he does take it a little too far. A timeout sayin we are serious and that you need to calm down would probably do the trick.

Thanks,

i was a golf professional for many years and can tell you first hand that the top golfers in the world will(as will any top pool player) play any brand of equipment if they are paid enough endorsement money. tiger woods never used any brand other than titleist before turning pro in 1996. after 2 years as a tour rep. for titleist, he went for the big bucks and signed with nike(and by his own admission, his game suffered mightily for about 2.5 years afterwards as he had to get used to playing with inferior equipment while waiting on nike to finally make him some decent equipment). if you are naiive enough to believe that earl and allison play cuetec because they LIKE their cues then you need to take a look at the ipt players/equipment list and see how many are playing cuetec lol. Don't you know that everyone or at least some players would be playing cuetec if it was even decent equipment. they sign with cuetec for the endorsement money and the security(supplemental income) that comes with it since there is no full time/ every week tour for the men or women any more. they feel the trade off in performance is worth the money they are paid. happens every year on the pga tour as well. earl also signed and adhered to a no gambling clause in his contract with cuetec as well, as far as i know. im not the biggest fan of earls antics sometimes either, but i hope he gets a good cue and starts tearing people a new ass now. anybody care to match up with him(non phillipino although they might not be barred either)

A suspension by the old PBT didn't do it.
A threat of banishment from WPC hasn't done it.
A suspension from the Camel Tour didn't do it.
Come to think of it, he's gotten worse.

A sad day indeed. I know that many of us have taken are shot at Earl's antics, but this is a crappy move. Besides shooting the lights out on a regular occasion, Earl's behavior is half of what makes him so entertaining to watch. I hope he gets one of the big names to sponsor him next and goes on a major winning streak..

im not a full time stake horse but if anyone on here has any proposals to play earl some long ahead sets let me here them and i might let him play some 2000-10000 dollars worth.jason 704 418 0080

Not to mention, Earl has stated plenty of times that ANYONE in the world can get played with a 15 sec. shot clock.

I'll try him some.;) what kind of spot could a girl get?:)

Please do not purchase cues from overseas

I'm glad you touched on this aspect of the situation, Jen. The yanking of pool sponsorships is just another sign of the decline of prosperity in this country.

Shame on every American company who sells out to an overseas concern, and shame on every American company who outsources production. Everything comes full-circle. Who will buy your cheesy imported products when the American economy has gasped its last breath due to the flat deficit dollar and rampant unemployment?

Shame on American consumers and pool players who keep sending more of their American dollars on that one-way trip to China.

The trade deficit with China is the single largest threat to our economy today, and the sad part is that no seems to be able to make the connection between all of the cheap Chinese "goods" flooding our stores, the exodus of real jobs overseas, and the absolute tanking that the dollar is doing in foreign markets. The real sh*t and giggles part of it, is that most of the Chinese "bargains" are simply future landfill with a price tag attached.

Support American cuemakers and manufacturers. There are threads on here regarding $79.00 jump cues and imported full-splice butts. Who cares if these are "really good deals"? It's just another lancing of the vein in Uncle Sam's arm, and another dollar never seen again. There are NO bargains - you get what you pay for, whether in the short term, or the long run. If you want a nice cue, save a little money and buy something you can be proud of. Don't spend good money on another regret just because it's cheap.

That is a pretty strong argument for how much effect equipment has on a top players game.

FYI - Tiger still does not use "off the rack" equipment...His clubs (as are most top pros) a prototype forge.....They typically take a set and put lead tape all over it until they get what they are looking for...then the engineers use that to build a prototype and fire off some molds for him to use.....eventually something similar will hit the market...but it won't be the same.

Earl would fall into the same catagory when it comes to cues...It is not a matter of if he can make a ball with the cue, its more about shape, feedback, CB reaction etc......and it does have an effect on your game...At his level....one missed shot or missed position can cost you a set.

Who knows...mabey he will end up using a Varney!!!!

Let's all help Earl out with words of encouragement (and set him up with some games;) ;) ). I am really excited for him to get shitcanned by a worthless cue company. I bet he isn't at home crying...he is at the local pool hall woofing:D :D

great job nobody wants. Pays good

You know Jam that kind of attitude is pretty much going to preclude Keith getting the job.  :o :D

I wonder what kind of stats he had before cuetec, then compare them to with cuetec. That would be interesting to know, don't ya think?

Or on the golf course banging Big Bertha.

Maybe things have been bad between Earl and Cuetec for quite awhile.

This might explain part or most of Earl's erractic behavior over the last few years.

Only Earl and Cuetec know what's been going on behind the scenes.

Back in the 70's, I shot tournament archery and had an equipment contract with a major archery company. They came out with a new design and required their entire shooting staff to use the new design to help push sales.

Only one problem, no one could shoot well with the new design. When the staff as a group brought the problem up to management, their attitude was that they had spent so much money on developing the new design that we had no choice in the matter and either shoot with it or give up the contract.

I took the limbs off of one of my old bows and altered them to fit the newer model. It helped and didn't entirely cure the problem but, at least, I was competitive again.

Maybe Earl will get a contract with another cue company. Then, all they'll have to do is find a replacement for his head.

you are exactly right, noone plays off the rack equipment(with a couple of exceptions) but my point was that even NIKE with unlimited money behind them could make a decent prototype. tiger changed his irons 6 times during the first two years. his endorsement deal was and is worth over 100 million per year so he dealt with the equipment issues. the top pros use their (golf) tournament earnings as tip money, their real income comes from endorsements and the will play with walmart equipment if they would pay them enough.

Why don't pro players find out what they like/what plays best, and then ask to be a part of their team? That's what I would do if I shot like Earl.
