ok, i am actually thinking about buying this cue. $160 isnt that much, dont think its gonna break me.

anyway, part of my reason for being interested in this cue is that both Mark Wilson and Scott Lee have recommended that i move my grip hand back on the cue. so far back that its actually part off of the linen wrap. this feels very uncomfortable to me, so i am thinking that this Cuetec cue, with the spiral soft leather wrap that extends pretty much down to the buttcap, should alleviate this problem.

yes, i know its a Cuetec, but it should at least give me some feedback as to whether or not i like having the grip hand down that far on the cue.

Your'e gonna catch some grief on this site for buying a Cuetec (except of course, from Travis Trotter :rolleyes: ). Personally, I've wondered about the Thunderbolt and Vortex models myself although I'm not planning on buying either one. I was just curious as to how they hit and the quality of them in comparison to Cuetec's former models, of which I own one of (a Mahogony Series 19 oz. w/12mm SST shaft).
I hope posters are kinder to you for your purchase of a Cuetec than they have been to others in the past who have bought one. Good luck!

I'll buy the damn cue for you if you promise to stop posting ridiculous crap about missing easy run-outs and how stupid you are because of it and how come you couldn't get position on this shot, etc., etc., etc.!!!

The thunderbolt series is a closed out series by cuetec. Unless you know a dealer that has been stashing them away for awhile....I've heard the only ones left on the market are left-handers. So, if you are righthanded, and don't want your game to be thrown WAY off for months or longer - steer clear of the left-handed Thunderbolts.:cool:

Scott also has me gripping very near the end of the butt, but I play with a wrap-less cue and it does not bother me that much.

If I were you I would consider using a wrap-less cue before buying a cuetec, if having your hand partly off the wrap is a problem.

Well i've owned a thunderbolt, but not that particular model. It worked for well for me, and for the price, what more can u ask for?

Hope ur purchase serves u well. :)

i've got a couple of Cuetec cues, they are ok, nothing great. good for someone else to use when someone stops by.

there's about three reasons why i am thinking of purchasing this cue:
1) this should fit the break shaft i use with my other Cuetec, the one i had Mueller's make for me a few years ago.
2) i can possibly sell the Thunderbolt shaft on EBay.
3) it gives me a grip down to the end, where i wont feel like i am holding the cue partially off the grip.

just have to see here..........:confused:

yeah the shafts are interchangeable from vortex (which i still have, but don't use), thunderbolt, and SST.

I've sold my thunderbolt to one of the pool hall operators for cheap, just so i can get rid of it, and besides, was very good to me.

now trying to get rid of my vortex as i have no use for it. Once i have time, will have my local cue repair guy to just do some touch-ups and then probably give it away as a good cause thing. So long as someone can offer the shipping.

As far as the gripping to the end thing, a poster did mention getting a cue without a wrap is probably a very good suggestion.
 
You do realize you are going to change your grip location depending on the length of your bridge, right? I mean, your grip changes from shot to shot. I'm average heigh (5'9"), average build (as you can see in my pic) and I can safely say I've gripped my cue just about everywhere from below the wrap to just above it (yes, ABOVE the wrap).

Don't take this as a criticism of Lee's teachings but I really think you're paying way too much attention on where you grip the cue and not enough attention on what's important.
 
Jude...Mike has been taught to hold the cue where his forearm is perpendicular when the tip is at the CB. He was originally WAY in front of perpendicular, and as he noted, both Mark Wilson and I suggested this be changed to a more straight up and down grip position. The length of Mike's natural bridge (and to some degree his height) dictates holding his cue near the end. Yes, we do move the bridge closer or farther on some shots...however, for a majority of standard shot situations most of us use the same exact bridge length (what we call your "natural" bridge length). Whatever that is, the grip hand should be as close to perpendicular at ball address as possible!

I understand what your saying DCP. Your forearm should normally be perpendicular to the floor when addressing the cue ball.

Maybe you could think of the end of the wrap as a useful reference point as to where you should be gripping the cue? Wouldn't that be helpful? If your cue is wrapped clear to the butt capp you have no reference point without actually looking back at your hand before each shot.

IMO I'd rather not play with a cuetec just for the length of the wrap.

thats exactly how i use my wrap, as a reference point i can feel. whether i'm all the way on the wrap, half and half, or completely off the wrap. very helpful for me, and i've tended to stay away from wrapless cues because of it
 
Ive been wanting to try a cuetec with the maple shaft, whitch I believe the thunderbolt series do? Im not crazy about fiberglass shafts, the maple shaft however might be worth trying, (for me that is)

I own a cuetek python. it has a fibreglass shaft. I can't stand the feel of it, but it is a monster break cue in the winter when there isn't much humidity. I'm not going to wear a glove or use powder just to break. I got a Jerico Stinger that I like the feel of better.
I wouldn't pay money for a cuetek, and I got mine for free when I bought my mcdermott. it is good to loan to guys, better than most house sticks. some that use it really like it alot

i'd sell you the Thunderbolt shaft. interested? i'd cut you a good deal, that would offset the cost of this Cuetec. all i am really interested in is the butt since i have a couple of other Cuetec shafts.

:o the shaft wouldnt do me all that much good, I dont have a cuetec period.. I would like to try one, but buying a shaft, then buying the whole cue doesnt make much sense....:confused:


If anyone wants to get rid of a cuetec with the maple shaft (no fiberglass) and its reasonably priced I would be interested, I might even do some trading, but Id need the whole cue..
