IF you've ever shot with a good curley shaft you get spoiled real quick!
I am trying to find someone with GRADE A quality curley shafts.
Prefer turned to last turn before joints and ferrule and tips are added and the shaft is finished.
Need to be 30" length.
Thanks

not the best forum

Probably get better results posting in the cuemakers forum.

I like them too. I just made one for Matt90 that was stellar. Here is a pic below. I believe your best source for curly shafts as you want them will be Mr. Chris Hightower. 770/684-7004 or email at cueman@cuesmith.com

kinda sparked my interest. how much are we looking at for one of these shafts? and whats so great about them besides the look?

I have about 50 of those just taking up space in the shop. Some are just unbelievable. PM me if you want a price on them.

Bumpage... for a knowledgeable person's answer to this question. I've got a couple of custom cues on order (a matched pair) and if there's an advantage to having curly maple shafts, I'd like to hear it.

tia, cd.

I'm no cue maker,

but one of the McDaniel's that owned had curly maple shafts and it played very well. Can't really say that I noticed much difference vs the other McDaniel shafts that I had.

Here's just a handfull I pulled out. $25 each or 5 for $100.

Scratch that for now. I found about 70 pieces of curly shaft wood with varying degrees of curl. I am going to run a pass and grade them by figure. Give me a week to sort them out. Those that have already contacted me have fisrt choice. The price per piece will not exceed the $25 I posted earlier.

Hi Ratcues,

are is in final cut or in dowel form? I will probably pic up 5 of your best one so let me know when you finish sorting them.

Regards,
Duc.

How does the wood density compare to normal straight-grain maple shaft wood? How about stiffness vs. flexibility? Any more or less tendency to warp? It sure does look pretty.

Curly Maple Shaft

Jack Madden just made a shaft for a sneaky pete of mine that needed a little more weight toward the front. He used curly maple with ivory ferrule and a hard Moori tip. It plays great!! I thought the pattern of the grain would be distracting but that goes away in about 5 minutes.Jack is a good guy to deal with and a very good player himself so he can understand what you are looking for in a cue. His number is 406 544 2076.
