Custom Pool Room

Bath

I started the Bath wainscoting. I juggled a few different ideas from tile to wall paper to just leaving it as it was but I finally decided to to trim the bottom portion in white and posibly change the wall color to a dark charcoal black. Here I ripped the MDF for the stiles and rails.

Well I got the Central Air running, and it feels great!:grin-loving: I remember working in 115 deg heat inside the room last summer and that makes me really appreciate it. My neighbor told me when we hooked it up, he was surprised how quiet and smooth the unit ran. The gentleman I bought it from told me he serviced it regularly and only replaced it because of an addition he did to his house. I have two units for my house and spent $4K for each system, $200 aint bad for a used good working system!! I was told by some A/C friends that Id be taking a chance buying a used system, and I knew that, but when you're on a $7000 budget, a $4000 system is not really an option.

I had an idea this past weekend! While I was working I realized this unit cools great and it works awesome! and it had such sufficient throw, the air reached the opposite wall. So I got to thinking: do I really need supply ducts? Well I'm considerng scrapping the duct idea and just building a register box with a straight grill. If in the current condition it works flawless, why mess with it.
I never make a decision to scrap an idea for reasons of budget or labor issues, (no short-cuts) but when its due to just being a good idea, I get excited!

I started installing the wainscoting.

Since the window is centered and I didn't have much room for a mirror above the sink I designed it with a mirror on both sides of the window so it wouldn't look odd having an offset mirror on one side.

I bought some material at Hobby Lobby ($6) and the rods at lowes ($4) for the curtains. I had asked my wife to make me the curtains, which she gladly agreed, but after cleaning the house and making dinner she was pretty tired and anxious as I was I decided to make them my self. I plan on ordering a Billiard pattern later but for now these will do.

All this and you sew, too...what a catch

Everything looks great. Again, thanks for the updates.

i read the entire thread

and you sir are a very talented person, you have created a very nice room, my congratulations.
it would scare the hell out of me to set pool tables on a chop board floor, but obviously you know what you are doing.

GREAT ROOM

Almost 150K

Holy macro! 149,461 views! Almost 150k. This month started with 100k. I noticed when you search "custom pool room" in any search engine, this tread is one of the first listed. Great advertizing for AZ!
Definitely should be stickied!

Bath

Well I'm continuing to work on the Bath. I dissasembled the cabinet to sand and primer. After drying I gave it another light sanding and second coat of primer. The next day I painted it with latex semi gloss. It seems as though I've been working on this bath for weeks! I think thats why I don't like painting, the whole process is very time consuming.

The old cabinet top was in such poor condition I decided to make a new using oak plywood. I want to stain this to match the wood floor. I 45'd the hole so the sink will sit better.

Here are updated pics of the completed wainscoting. I still need to add the bottom shoe mold.

Last night I was able to reassembel the cabinet and stain/polyurethain the top. I used red oak and it matched the floor color perfectly. I also added the shoe mold and finished the Crown molding. Tonight I'll install and connect the toilet, and I'll be ready to go; literally.

As you can see in the pics I haven't added the chair rail yet, thats because I dont know waht I want to put on but four small pieces wont take long once I decide.

I also stained the window sill inserts with red oak. I figured adding a little color would help tie it all together. I also picked up the window blinds that will go up tonight.

Oops, I just noticed I didn't add the glass to the cabinet front. One more detail to take care of tonight.

Wow, this is great, not only a nice Billiard Room but also nice well kept facilities! a little dish of potpourri... what else could you ask for?

As impressed as I am with this man's talents...I think what impresses me the most is his discipline to stay the course. :) had it been me...as soon as I would've had an enclosure and the pool tables, I would've had them set up so I can start playing and "I'll finish the room later" mentality would've kicked in. Ofcourse it would've stayed that way with plywood finish at best :D

Kudos to you Dsoriano!

Thanks, it hasn't been easy. My Dad was trying to convince me of setting up at least one table once I had the room dried in, I nipped that idea in the butt real quick! From experience, I've learned to get the project done then enjoy it.

How come when I click on 41 I get sent back to 40??

I agree it's better to wait and enjoy everything around you rather than enjoying pieces and parts of the work.

If I were you, and I can only wish at this point..lol, I would probably not drink or hang out in there till everything is done.

Knowing me, I would have set the cable and TV up and start to drink in there at nights when everyone is asleep...LOL

Funny you mention that, I have a friend that works for the Cable company coming over tomorrow after work to help me connect the cable/internet to the room. Hopefully we can get everything working fine.

...that's EASY...a guest room! LOL However, I think the list of AzBr's desiring to visit would take up 20 years (hell I'd be good for 6 weeks myself!) :yikes::thumbup:...j/k dsoriano! I do look forward to seeing it in person some day soon, though!
