Custom Pool Room

The cabin I had built in my garden for my table is 6metres x 5metres which is very similar to the size of yours. Mine fits my 9ft in with plenty of room to cue properly around all sides and I have a settee and table and chairs in there too! So I wouldnt worry about the size its plenty big enough :-)

Looks like its gonna be great when finished!

I already have an 8-foot table, so I don't have any desire to go out and buy a 9-footer or 7-footer...at least for now. But the recommended minimum room size for an 8-footer is 17' 4" x 13' 11". This gives you enough room for a full cue from any rail. I'll have an extra 2'+ in both directions, so it should be plenty. Not ideal, but should be fine. I don't need a bar, or elaborate furniture etc, so I'm not overly concerned.

Moquette is the kind of carpet you see used in offices, reduces sound a lot and it's quite relaxing walking on to when playing.
Possibly there are other words for it, that was the first that came in mind.
About the size of the room, if you can do something now do it.
It's a pitty to go into all this trouble and not being able to put a 9 footer in there..
Good luck!

Ahh, okay! Yeah, I'm putting in some carpet similar to what would be in an office, with padding under it. The really thin stuff.

The 60" is plenty of room. You don't stand behind the cue...you stand next to it. The 16 x 20 space will be plenty for the 8 foot table.

This really only gives you a couple of feet extra space if you want to have enough clearance around the table. If on the rail, you need 60" of space, plus the space for your feet to stand behind the cue and swing. You may want to put a 7' table there.

I'm fairly new to this forum, and to pool in general, really. I started playing seriously about a year ago and trying to learn the game, and now I'm hooked. Anyway, I finally got clearance from my wife to build an outbuilding for my pool table to feed my addiction :) I read through dsoriano's thread on the custom room he built every day, and though I won't have the resources allocated to do anything close to what he did, it has inspired me to at least do what I could. So I started on this at the end of June, and hope to have it completed, structurally, by August 1. I don't have a ton of time to work (evenings and some weekends), and there's only 2 of us working on it (myself and my father), or I'd have it done quicker. So here it is. I decided on a 16x20 outbuilding with 4 windows and a double-french door. T1-11 siding and Ondura roofing. I put it on skids because we're planning on building a home in the near future (3-5 years), so i could have this moved to our new house when the time comes. I'll post day-to-day progress pictures in this thread.

Good luck with your new room. It will be worth it once you have it built. I love my billiard room. So very thankful for it.

yeah i was just wondering if anyone had told him its just barely big enough for a bar table....he should have asked someone on here before he started building

LOL, I'm in PA so it'd be quite a haul. My father is the handy one, though. I just know how to pound nails where he tells me to :)

What an awesome job Rookie. Thanks for sharing the build and the pics with us. I hope you enjoy your new pool room !!!

Why would you shoot with a bridge on the rail?:confused::confused:

If the cueball is one the rail, your hand will be on the rail. Or do you mean "bridge" as in the "rake" as UK players call it, the plastic thing to help you reach? I meant "bridge" as in my bridging hand that holds the shaft.

Today we got the T1-11 up on 3 sides, minus the gables. I still have 6 sheets to stain and the weather hasn't been very cooperative lately, so hopefully we'll get the rest done soon.

I had started to say something but saw he'd already laid the foundation and just edited my post to say nevermind... he's committed now... but yeah, I'd want an extra few feet. I think though he must really enjoy what he's doing, maybe building it is the best part and playing in it is just gravy :) Can't believe how fast he's knocked it out.

It looks like (look at the early pics) it's nestled in between two other structures so while it is easy to say, "Hey why didn't you make it bigger", but that was a possible consideration. In my current home I had to "settle" for an 8 footer due to space constraints but I've grown "accostomed to its face" and the world moves on. Hey, rookiepsu ... it looks great, I'm sure you'll spend many a happy hour playing in it and best of luck. Keep sending us updates.
