So I've read.JoeyInCali said:He has an IQ of of WAY ABOVE 140.

I didn't like any of the designs on ebay so I called him directly. I like his DP6-5 model which he lists at 900 dollars. Before I had a chance to mention the price he dropped it to 750 with one of his DPR shafts instead of 2 normal ones and which ever tip I prefer on it. That sounded like a great deal at the time.
I actually got to hit with one that a gentleman was using at a pool hall in town and it felt good. Having only ever played with my Meucci (97-12 yes its warped but I was young and dumb and left it in my car for over 8 years straight) the DP felt and looked great.
I placed the order on the dp6-5 less then a week ago and am considering calling it off now. I don't doubt the cue will be nice, however, if I had known that he's whacking me double for a cue that I have to wait 6 months on when I can have one at half price delivered tomorrow, I wouldn't have placed the order.
Without using adjectives to describe the subjective feeling of a cue's hit (i.e., wet noodle, whippy, firm, etc...) all we would be left with is the statement "I don't like this cue" which is no help to a reader trying to understand what the author is saying. The fact of the matter is, we (the pool world) are trying to describe in words something that is felt - and most of us are not professional writers.Koop said:All these people with all their adjectives (wet noodle, whippy, etc..) and yet how the hell do you measure this?
JoeyInCali said:He has an IQ of of WAY ABOVE 140.
td873 said:It's clear that there is no standardized measurement for the "noodle-ness" of a cue's hit, but the pool world is not so naive that they can't grasp that a "whippy" cue is [at least] different than a "firm" one. Whether "whippy" is used consistently is irrelevant. Rather, it denotes an unwanted or unexpected feeling by the player - which others can interpret based on their experience.
IMO, using noodle, whippy, or firm, is pretty much what we're left with - and until someone proposes a system we can all use - I'll take whatever feedback the players give me -> and I won't belittle them for trying

JoeyInCali said:I defy anyone to pick up a standard tapered Meucci, etc... and hit the balls at anything other than warp speed and come back and say they could actually see the shaft bend. This is utter nonsense.
Most likely not.
But in the pool academy video by Meucci where Rempe and lion-haired Lori Jon Jones starred in, they showed a slowmo of the Meucci cue hitting the ball.
It bends a lot in that video.
In the same video, they advocated parallel english.
Btw, how did this thread turn into Meuccifest again?![]()
Sure:Koop said:So then, in your own terms, what does noodle or whippy means besides something other than "firm".
No, they only showed Moochi.Koop said:I could always begin a new thread if you like.
Did they happen to slo-mo any other cues with the same tapers? And what do you consider to be a lot? I can tell you I have shot with both old and new and, if blinfolded, could not tell you the difference between those shafts and any other shaft of the same taper and diameter.

td873 said:As mentioned previously, if you take issue with the descriptive terms used, perhaps you can suggest a standardized set of terms that we call all use. Otherwise, it adds little to the pool world to simply fault others for usages you just don't like.
Sure:
"Whippy hit": the vibrational quality of a [Meucci] cue such that it feels as if it is not completely solid resulting in unexpected cue ball action."Noodle": A thin and/or oddly tapered shaft of a [Meucci] cue that results in unpleasant feekback when you shoot, often culminating in unintended or inconsistent results."firm hit": The vibrational feedback of a well constructed cue, typically resulting in the desired cue ball action.Meucci - pronounced "meh uck ee" down here

Rempe showed his famous $100K cue in that video too. I believe Varney's Arabian uncle bought that cue.
I don't know how to quantify a lof of buckle.
Cue tinkerers bend their shafts all the time by hand to judge buckle.
If mine bends easily behind the 12-inch line, me no like it. I like to keep the flex point around 10-inch line from the tip. Me no like big-gapped plastic ferrule too that absorbs energy.
Koop said:Wow, you can really tell just from the hit if there is a big gapped plastic ferrule? Or do you just know that because others have written about it and now you have adopted it as a means to defend your view.
How can I get my hands on this video because I would love to see a cuemaker recommend parallel english. Think, think, now where is that video?
JoeyInCali said:Have you seen a Meucci ferrule replaced recently? Black dots specially.
Why do you have to have an azzhole tone when asking a question?
A cuemaker recommend parallel english? Rempe shoots it and with two diagrammed parallel lines.
In the video a partial shaft is shown being cut too. Shocking how much wood was taken out in one pass.
I have the video, I have two hifi vcrs and a dvd recorder. The video is discontinued and can make you a copy. But, fkk you.
Go find one.
Varney Cues said:Often when I see someone play with a Meucci...when they stroke the ball...I'm AMAZED at how long the shaft vibrates tremendously. I can only describe it in one word...BOING. Bob once himself admitted to me that the reason there is a big hollow spot in the top of the red & blk dot shafts is for glue relief. The Meucci plastic ferrule is so thin & just a capped slip on type...that without it, when his workers put glue in them and pushed them on...many would break open due to the glue. So he now leaves a 12mm, 1/4" long hollow spot in the ferrule top, even the tenon is turned down on top & now they don't break during install. When asked about this by most...its his famous "low deflection ferrule".![]()
True story.
