Danny D. and the HOF

...This is all very disheartening.

I can think of a few choice words other than "disheartening," but that's a nice way to put it.

Pool players and diehard railbirds are not the emdodiment of Poe's Raven. Nevermore, I say. Nevermore.

Not sure either Fred but maybe Jose considers himself a Filipino that lives in America. Is Jose a citizen of US now or has some visa that allows him to live here? I don't know.
If Jose' is a US Citizen (which Joey from CA has posted that he is), then he is a Filiipino American, regardless if he was born in the States or not. I can't even believe that there would be anyone that would disagree with this.

Fred - maybe you have dual citizenship or you were born in US by FIlipino parents?
I do not have dual citizenship and I was born in the Philippines. If someone ever hinted to me to take the word "American" off of my nationality, it would be worth fighting about.

Fred <~~~ lover, not a fighter but...

Since you quoted me Fred, I have to say that I just didn't know and I'm not disagreeing with anything here. Sorry if I offended you in any way.

I'm talking about their sheer existance and how they control and do buisness in the sport....

During the cllashes & ugly warfare in early 90s between between dom Mackey of Pro Billiard Tour and BCA , it became evident that the BCA was a power house with respect to pool. World Pool Association recognized only BCA as the representative of USA.The disapponited Don could not do anything.I suggested planting & infiltrating BCA by buying the BCA`s directors positions.people did not go for that because it is a long process and every body wanted quick fix/overnight result. The American organzations do not have structure like in other countries. In other countries these professional organizations ,as a general rule are built in the structure of a pyramid- city, county, state and then the national organization. Those are different kind of politics anyway.Bottom line is tthe BCA is the power house.

Yes, they are and represent the industry members well.

Professional pool players, on the other hand....

I edited my post to add one more thing there.

When the BCA was created in the '40s, its mission was as follows: The objective was to organize the players and promote the sport through qualifying tournaments at the local, regional and national levels...

And then this happened to the BCA in 2004:
...the BCA re-dedicated itself to achieving a united, growing, prosperous and highly regarded billiard industry through BCA leadership. The BCA enhances the success of its members and promotes the game of billiards through educational programs, the International Billiard & Home Recreation Expo, tournaments and other programs designed to make pool everybody's game.

I think the BCA has forgotten the tournaments; thus, professional pool.

Without professional pool, the United States doesn't ever have a shot at competing in the Olympics. With only a handful of American pros today in 2010 and less new talented aspiring young players to compete on a professional level entering the fray, professional pool is a dead fish in the water in these United States.

Instead of cultivating professional pool, the emphasis of the BCA is on industry members. The lack of concern and outright disdain I am sensing they seem to now have for professional pool players, as exhibited by recent BCA activities, why, this starting to stink just like that dead fish in the water to my nostrils.

Maybe it's time to accept the realization that it is not going to change and just move on. The golden years of pool have gone by in the States. The BCA will continue to exist, with or without the professional pool players.

Looks like the BCA has achieved their mission as a "united, growing, prosperous and highly regarded billiard industry through BCA leadership." Those who highly regard the BCA may be content, but professional pool players are now an endangered species.

Needed an interpreter

JAM,
I had NO CLUE what that meant. My first thought was that Po-Cheng Kuo was now living near you in Baltimore, which, I think, is close to DC. But then I realzed that you're a better speller than most here, and that could not be a typo. So, when in doubt...."Google" it!

Here's what I found......http://www.poedecoder.com/essays/raven/

No need for us to talk in code here though. The BCA doesn't listen to us fans when we say it in plain English.
