Darren Appleton - US Bar Table 10-ball Champion

ancient history

Well, Spain ruled Philippines for 350 years while USA only were there for like 50 years, so I would say that the Filipinos have more in common with Europeans than Americans, so they are practically a part of Europe ;)

How is Europe doing now? :D :p

350 years and the Spanish never brought them a pool table? As usual it takes the US to get things rolling!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ShootingArts again.

The fact is that the Spanish people made the Filipinos practise their stroke in and out of bottles for 350 years, so they would have their special, perfect stroke ready when someone finally brought some tables.

Do I have to tell you everything?

Johnny,

Although it seems like just another country to people living in a country, Europe is a continent. That isn't enough to get pool victories so they rake in all of the surrounding islands too like England so they can claim wins.

I've always figured if people were going to fudge things a bit, the Philippines are practically part of the US!

How is the "US" doing now?

Hu

Good one Hu. Johnnyt

I heard about that . . .

I did hear something about practicing strokes and bottles when the Spanish were there but it didn't involve pool cues. This being a somewhat family oriented site I'll stop with that!

My thoughts exactly. Reminds me of the kid on the playground who has no hope of taking down the big kid, but says "my friend" will come to fight you tomorrow.

Roy are you from Great Brittain? If not WTH are you gloating about?

So here's a more accurate barometer Roy.... You take your whole continent vs. USA....your top 100 players vs. our top 100. Would you bet everything you own on winning? ;) Kind of funny that the whole world would need weight against the USA in this scenario IMO.

It's SO NICE to see some Europeans winning those American Championships, don't you all agree? :D :D :D :D :D (Wasn't it the only European in the field too??? ;)

(Thanks to those who betted against Darren Appleton)

Now, if I could only find some information about who won that Turning Stone event, and where he's from... Atleast that must have been an American, don't you think?
Very nice win for him

Roy I owe you either 6 beers or the equivelent of $25.00 the first time we meet each other :)

My dad is A LOT stronger than yours!!!! He eat people like you for breakfast, and he moves oilplatforms with his own hands! Just as you know!

Actually I think I would bet on the top 100 from Europe against the top 100 from USA.

No, I am not from Great Britain. No, I am grandson to one of the few Norwegians that didn't cross the pond to go the States.

My family belongs to the Norwegians who were too dumb to get on the boat to America, so the only pleasure I have in life now is to make fun of the yankees. And I grab every oppurtunity! ;)

I certainly prefer 6 beers!!!

But please, not American beer. American beer is like making love in a boat.

Fu**ing close to water.

Ok, enough hijacking of my own thread :D

Darren IS a fantastic champion. Down to earth, great to his fans, and I think it was awesome of him to take his time to do a 1,5 hour long chat-interview on TAR last night, just prior to his final.

THAT is how to take care of your fans!

(If he now could only learn to speak English without that northern accent, I could understand what he is actually saying too)

He is a great champion and his interview on the stream last night was pretty awesome. He sat and talked forever about everything. It is cool to be able to have access like that to World Champions.

Me thinks that this is the real issue with you Ragnar and it is not that your folks were to dumb but that they were higher up in the social strata , rarely do people who are well off in a country migrate - unless of course there are political reasons etc.

Almost First(haha)....Daz is ridiculous on a bar table but then again so were a bunch of people in the field. Great win. He's going very strong in the 9 ball right now as well. Wonder does he play jam up 8 ball too? We'll see..

Darren Appleton's background is World UK 8-ball Champion! So, yeah, even though UK 8-ball is different, the tables are similar size as pool bar tables and more importantly, the patterns and cueball paths are second nature to him.

Fred <~~~ way to go pal!!!

thanks

thankyou for support

glad people watching the tar i think its great too and am always happy to get involved with them guys and talk to people on line..even if nobody can understand me except my family lol

i have virtually been in states now from start of year and i intend to spend more time in states this year.. main reason because imo the tournaments are much better than anywhere else and more tournametns and more action..and i am making lots of very good friends here :-).. and the strengh in depth is awesome ,yes the americans have been overshadowed a little with so much european success and asia the past few years. but there is still 100s of very good players in states and there some good young players that will come through eventually nobody can dominate forever..

plus there so many good players in us that dont play tournaments as they prefer to play action and keep there id under the carpet :-)

but like i said the playing conditions are much better over here the us and the tables and lot more things happening so thats why am spending lot of time here to try and keep improving my game and this where the money is..

thanks again

glad to have you!

Regardless of what the razzing between friends might seem to indicate we are very glad to have you here. We'll have you speaking American in no time.

Congratulations on your win!

True Story:

My father has never taken a driver's license test. Political connections in the Philippines and all, he was able to get his first license without doing anything. When he came to the U.S. in 1971, the DMV thought that the Philippines was still a U.S. Territory and granted his license (reciprocity), no questions asked!!!

Fact is, my parents were actually born as U.S. citizens, but I'm pretty sure that was reneged in 1946.

8ball

i must clear up the english 8ball thing

i never played for blackball or blackball rules thats a different association to what i played ..even though the game pretty similar they play to diff rules, and the strengh in depth and the best players play on the i.p.a www.propool.org www.wepf.org www.epa.org.uk which is where i played ..and they play to World rules

table size the same as bar table but the rails and the pockets play completly different and the balls are much smaller along with pockets.. and most players play with a average 8mm tip..also the cloth is napped green..

but yes i get my patterns and tactics from english 8ball i played as a professional from 96-98 even though the last 2 years of playing my speed dropped as i didnt play much at all..but the time i was professional myself and mick hill the current world no 1 shared the no 1 spot for over 10years..he also played ipt and imo his the best 8ball player ive ever played against..

the game not as global as american style pool!

but at the world championships they usually get around 12-15 different countries from

england,wales,scotland,ireland,malta,austrialie,south africa,belguim,france,spain,west indies,kenya, and few more!

hope this helps

blackball

nothing against blackball rules or the association i just never played there,, but i know most of the players.. and maybe in future they might be main body for that game and if its for the better then great the other guys will go where the money is.. because english 8ball definatley needs something to happen for the better!
