Darren Forfeits Beloit

So screwing up isn't screwing up. Gotcha.

Jon Jones screwed up... anyone that bet on him gets refunded.

If I were in Skyler, Corey, or Shanes shoes I would have been understanding had the calcutta money been refunded to BJ in this situation.

I swear pool players/fans are the dumbest people ever. No wonder pros don't even bother to come here. You whiny little girls want to critique and bash everything just for the sake of it.

Everyone that thinks Darren owes money needs to seriously get laid, ASAP. That is all.

I agree with you 100%. This site is filled with way too many who just love to chase off posters with their childish nonsense. So sad considering we are adults here.

lol

That's all I got. Lol

If sky's backer had the choice between 1. Not getting the money that was bet on Daz if they win or 2. Play the match... He would have said "when can you get here?"

I'm talking about the money being taking out of the calcutta and the calcutta refigured. Skyler would not have taken the whole loss.

If it's true that Skyler would have played after being presented that option then I only wish the option would have been presented even more.

I wish people would just let it go... the guy got a bad roll. I feel for the guy but I would doubt he's more upset than Darren himself.

In the future, I hope everyone learns their lesson and doesn't bid on Darren in a calcutta. Whatever the min. bet is, I'll just take it myself because I live life on the edge.

Obviously you seem Bitter and more upset than anybody that i over slept... so i will apologize to you too. Sorry Lou.:)

Darren

Bitter, lol.. nothing could be further from the truth, Darren.

Maybe if you had cost me calcutta money but otherwise I am just amazed and amused about the state of "professional pool.

I'm sure it was a great event and in a great room but I don't really consider The Carom Room Spring Classic $4,000 added barbox tournament "professional pool" regardless of who played in the event.

It's not pro pool, it's just a hell of an event. I think the future is ProAm pool...that's where the cash is. Lou is gonna make you dizzy if you let him

Pro pool is about pro players and how they conduct themselves, whatever the event.

If pro pool ever has a Q School, Day 1 should go:

This is an alarm clock.
Most cell phones have an alarm clock function.
Everyone take out your cell phone and try and set the alarm.

I'm guessing some guys won't make it past Day 1.

But i conducted myself great at weekend Loo lou Actually i was the only guy there dressed like a professional.

Set my alarms at 5 different times. maybe my ears are painted on or too big?:boring2:

I think Darren will come back next year and win! He seems to handle the pressure better than anyone right now, This incident will make him a stronger player IMO!

This is regarding the big money $2,000 entry, 16 man 8 ball event being held in Beloit, WI this weekend at Dave Cole's Carom Room.

Darren had eliminated Jesse Bowman 15-14 last night to guarantee himself 4th place. He was scheduled to play Sky Woodward on the loser's side for 3rd place this morning at 10:00am. Darren failed to show for his match and at the conclusion of the SVB/Corey match, it was announced on the stream that Darren had forfeited with no further explanation given. The following post by Lee Brett (in another thread) summarizes what happened.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sky won on a forfeit, Darren overslept and Sky's backers asked for him to be forfeited."
- Lee Brett
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It turns out that there were several attempts made -by the Carom Room staff- to find, wake, and notify Darren prior to his match this morning. And finally, only after stumbling across an old text that contained the name of a nearby hotel, were they able to contact the hotel and reach Darren - asleep in his room. It was 10:20am - 20 minutes after the match was supposed to begin.

Unfortunately, the people who were financially invested in Sky felt that a forfeit was the only correct call.

All I can say is Wow!

Before I proceed, I would like to make it very clear that my interest in this spectacle is not merely as a spectator or fan. I (along with another individual) had purchased Darren in the Calcutta for $4,900.

Funny as it sounds, one of the principle reasons why we chose to buy Darren (beyond his eight ball expertise, and superb pool playing skills) was the degree of professionalism Darren has always exhibited on and around a pool table. Every time I've watched Darren play (Mosconi Cup, US Open, Chinese 8 Ball, etc...) I've been very impressed with the way he has carried himself. Furthermore, when I've listened to him on American Billiards Radio, I've been equally impressed with his insights and intelligence. In Short, Darren had always personified the best of pool, and represented everything that this sport can and should aspire towards.

So when thrown into a tournament filled with absolute killers (Shane, Dennis, Corey, Sky, Justin, Kiamco, Morra, etc...) I felt lucky to place the winning bid on Darren. Why? because I felt that it would take much more than just pool skills alone to win this tournament. It would take will, drive, and most of all character to best this field. All traits that I thought Darren carried in spades.

So to find out that oversleeping was what kept Darren from playing his match this morning -a match that still carried with it the possibility of winning a 16,000 first prize- I am bewildered and disappointed.

Let me be very clear, am I upset about being out $2,450? (my half of the calcutta - No, Darren did not buy half of himself), of course I am. But, I'll be ok.

However, I will seriously reconsider what involvment -if any- I ever have again with pro pool as either a backer, spectator, or stream viewer.

Will I ever participate in another calcutta again? NEVER - FU**ING - EVER! Fool me once... To put it bluntly, I think it will be a long time before I put any of my money back into the pro pool economy.

That shit happens all the time. They (99% of Pool Players) have ZERO accountability. I have run tournaments and calcuttas off and on for 6 years and have seen forfeits in the Calcutta. It's not a big deal if the player had bought all of himself, but that's rare. I have banned players from events on our previous tour for this and told them the only way back in was to re-pay the Calcutta bidder.

Sorry for your loss, it's definitely not your fault. I would not say you wouldn't want to bid in a Calcutta again, I would just put no money in the pro side of pool, they do not deserve it no matter how well they play, main reason is because their sense of entitlement to it and everything else for free. But don't take it out on the amateur event calcuttas, that's where the value is anyhow, and they buy half.

His calcutta bid was not to put money in the pro side of pool... it was to put money into his pocket. That's awesome and I wish him the best of luck next time, but I don't get why everyone is thinking he did someone a favor by bidding on Darren.

If I lose our Cavs bet, Kelly Olynyk won't be paying me back for what he did to Kevin Love... and the money I pay you won't be going toward the NBA. It's gambling, sucks when you catch a bad beat but they happen.

I don't know why people think that players are obliged to buy half ... When i bid in Calcutta, I assume that a player is not going to buy themself.

ah, very professional, Darren. Way to go.
