We have been busy! There is a new podcast up on the main page. Chad interviews the Bar Box Legend Dave Matlock. Known as the King of the Bar Table. Dave talks about some of his history, some of his travels in the pool world and the upcoming Shooters of Olathe event.

Dave is a great guy and we want to thank him for giving us his time. We really appreciate it.

Great podcast. I really enjoyed it a lot! Dave is such a phenomenal player, and he also happens to be one of the nicest people I have ever had the privilege to meet on the tournament trail.

I wish him nothing but happiness in his upcoming marriage. It sure is nice to hear he got his house built, too! What an interesting interview! :)

matlock should brag more

I have heard alot of great dave matlock stories i wish dave would brag a little more. Saying the most racks run was 9 come on. He could of give a few big money match up stories
 
great stuff on this site. Is there any plans or thoughts or ability to start recording some of the games played and even marketing them. As a collector of matches I would love this. If financing is a concern let me know via pm. thanks

that is the beauty of dave, he doesnt need to brag! if you just show up you will get played! and thats the great part of the game that is being forgot about!dave brags everytime he gets out! and thats alot of bragging!the folks that brag are the ones with the egos. i assure you that if you play dave your going to get his best. and if you win he will be a gentleman in defeat! and these are the things that make dave a legend!
 
Chad, nice job with Dave....

I have known Dave since he was a kid and enjoyed hearing from him on the Action Report interview. I first saw him when he was about 16, playing golf at Stanleys Pool Room in Rolla, MO. I can tell you firsthand, he was a prodigy, or the next best thing. Just a natural swing at the cueball; pretty much nothing has really changed (as I remember it) in his stroke over the last 25 plus years. A natural.

I used to gamble regularly, when I was supposed to be in college, all over the middle of the country when I was 18-23 years old. There was action ($1 to $200) in most every decent sized town. Even went to Johnston City to side bet on Ronnie Allen. Pool was a big deal, at least in the KC area where I grew up.

Action was really pretty easy in the bars, if you could get out with the money. In 1968, I got my ass kicked in a joint in New Orleans. If you include all of the side bets, I won over a grand in 4 hours. My bankroll got out the door with my buddy. I made it out on my back in a cop car.

Point being, Dave was the best I ever saw at an early age and he was never about a big ego. He was strictly business. Don't forget he won the DCC banks a couple of years ago and is a top 3C player as well.

In my unprofessional opinion, David is the best all-round player to come out of Missouri, ever. That includes CJ Wiley, my friend Danny H, and Louie..

dave is the best bar table player i have ever seen. What makes pool fun to watch and talk about is all the woofing. Minnesota fats did more for pools popularity then just about anyone and he wasnt the best player just the best entertainer. Some of these matches on espn are like watching paint dry how about a little entertainment like other sports.
 
I am glad the # of racks run question was asked. I remember reading on here that a poster had firsthand knowledge of Dave running like 20something racks. I love how the legend grows with every retelling.

9 ain't nothing to sneeze at.

Dave Matlock is very modest, we used to play a monthly rated bar table 9-ball tournament at the Blue Note in either Enid or Ponca City Oklahoma in the late 80's and the ratings were 4 to 9 and you raced to your rating. They used to rate Dave a 12 in this tournament and he snapped it off regularly. I personally have been on the watching/racking end of him running an 11 pack to beat me 12 to 1. He is one of the classiest pool players a person could ever hope to get a brutal beating from on the pool and/or billiard table. I am just thankful to have lived in this part of the country for the past 22 years and to have witnessed many of his tournament and money match victories. Also, the same can be said for Mr. James Walden.
