Day Two -- Dispatch from the US One Pocket Open

Lou, Onda... Stayed at Mirage in end of July last year, and in May last year (furniture biz). Never went to Onda. I love Italian women, oops - Italian food! It's voted per Google search just now (you peaked my interest), as best Italian in Vegas. It's seemingly not "Chef branded" - like all the Wolfgangscmuck and Chef Ramsey places in Vegas (Ramsey's place at Paris this May was amazing - best MF'g oysters from a selection of the seas ever!)

Onda is to the right of the Brazilian steakhouse at Mirage (loved the Brazilian meaty food there!).

KK9 <-- putting Onda on the list - the power of your reference, TY Lou. You might want to try the gnocchi at the Strat 1st floor, Felinis, albeit a $10 cab drive from Mirage, new home of the Mosconi Cup.

BTW, it's 106 degrees in Vegas ATM. It's 71 in my 840,000 sq ft house, lol.

KoolKat, you gotta try Onda. Probably some of the best Italian I've have other than Il Profeta in Florence and Mario Batali's Babbos in NYC. And thanks for the tip on The Strat.

Dave, I know that you and Lou have been at each other for a very long time, so I get where you are coming from, to an extent. I've butted heads with him here occasionally, and certainly have played witness to a whole lot of stuff here for a while now. I get it.

However, I don't believe that anything Lou has said here online warrants anyone threatening violence over. Let alone by someone, a professional no less, many years younger. That is simply out of line.

If he wanted to express his dislike for Lou in any of the many colorful ways out there, sure, why not? If he feels that slighted, sure. But to suggest "going outside" over internet comments seems a bit much, to me. At least the comments related to the matter, I suppose (before we go down a whole different path about insulting ones family, etc).

And I will state that this is certainly all supposing Lou's account is accurate, as it is his recounting here that we are discussing. I'm not doubting him here, but I also realize that there are a few different sides to every story, and always allow for that.

Kinda makes you wonder what is going on out there in Vegas, though, all these offers to "go outside" from the BB crew lately :p

Well... I guess the moral of the story is don't say things online that you wouldn't face-to-face. That would solve 99% of the problems right there. Clearly, Schmidt didn't like Lou's condescending tone and made his feelings known.

So, instead of trying to be less of an ass next time, Lou goes on again about how he could buy and sell John AGAIN in this thread and continues to make it like he's a big pimping Donald Trump sipping on wine while John is an out-of-control fool.

My take is John just had enough of his mouth and let him know he could feel free to step outside.

People react differently to keyboard tough guys and that was John's way.

:-)

Me and Lou sometimes see eye to eye on the forums and sometimes not, I do not take it too personally as we just have different view points on certain things. Was nice to see you Lou the other day at Best, if I was not in a game we could have shot the $hit and had a drink. My lady thought you were Italian and not Mexican, haha.

Lenny it was good seeing you. I didn't know the attractive lady there was your better half --wish you had made introductions.

And I'm know you're a smart enough cookie to differentiate between here and real life. Best regards, Lenny.

Great post as usual Lou, too bad about the altercation.
You are right, the balls being cleaned and worked on should at least leave an asterisk after any high runs , why take the chance of having a great run and it being questioned forever?
If you can't run them unless conditions are perfect every shot, you probably shouldn't be the "champion" to hold the record anyway.

On the other part of the post
I know Earl has problems, but to get mad at Bernie because he beat you is weak.
Earl is a better shot maker than Bernie but Bernies used to playing Scott Frost so I doubt Earls coming up with many surprises, and if he plays anything but a great game, Bernie is a fine player and one of the toughest competitors I ever met .
He will not "Give" it to anyone .
They have to "take" it.
Sounds like Earl wasn't willing to gut it out with him.
I have also seen Bernie have a bad day or two where he was not playing as well as usual and got beaten on pretty hard, I know inside he is seething but he is always a gentleman and you can bet the next time he will be ready!
Since I moved to Phoenix, I am always asking him after his matches, about shot selections and theory, he has never said an unkind word.
That's mighty rare in the pool world.

Thanks, BC. Earl is nuts. I thought Bernie's response was perfect -- he is a class act and a hell of a player.

Lou,

Your write-up was great and since I couldn't be there it was great getting your perspective on being there and playing some of the top players. I like reading your posts and its sad to hear about some of the actions from some of the players.

James

Thank you, James. Glad you enjoyed.

Thanks, Lou, for another great inside peek at the U.S. Open One Pocket for those of us not fortunate to make it there. Love your stories. (And a nice illustration of why you are known as the consummate PR guy in pool;-)

You be welcome, demonrho. And thanks for the compliment.

Lou, during a period when my game had dropped, JS did a slight ''in the public eye'' moment/gamble/ego during his passin' thru yrs ago in Denver, during my early divorce/kids/school/life days of long ago. Seen that type of dog ''many'' times before in many different places all over our country. Hard to take the feral outta the cat.

I don't know what's up with John, ID. I do believe he has issues though that will eventually catch up with him.

People pull the "mine's bigger" thing all the time on here, like it's an actual measure of a person's value to others, whether it's their game, their cues, their house, their family or their bank account. I have no problems being friends with or telling off beggars or billionaires. Other than that, the product of their time may be good or bad.. in Lou's case, he's a pretty good writer imho. I haven't met him in person, have probably butted heads on here at some point, but will reserve final judgement for a time and place.. preferably somewhere with beer.

I'll buy the first round, Banks. Looking forward to it one day.

dub, thanks for speaking up.

As to Spider, here is the truth about him: as most everyone here knows, I have had him and a few others on Ignore for near two years now. So I have not been "at him" in a long, long time. But, perusing his record, anyone can see that he still likes to regularly take shots at me, all the while acknowledging I can't see his posts. How sick is that?

And all that is fine. On the pool forums there are guys like him who have never accomplished anything, gone anywhere, or contributed anything of substance, and can only garner attention by trying to attach and associate their name with those of us who have.

I think my record of posting on the forums for almost two decades speaks for itself, most folks acknowledging that I take care with my facts, going as far as to differentiate what I know from first hand experience and what I am told by others. People will also recognize that including details about where I've been and what I like to eat and drink have always been part of my posts and trip reports. (Anyone remember the story from a couple of years ago when I had a steak house dinner sitting next to a couple of wise guys?)

In my 20 years as a USAF officer, I have met, mentored, led, and commanded hundreds of guys like Spider --overgrown frat boys who cannot differentiate between the arrogance and hubris of their drinking buddies and the self confidence of a grown man. And so, in the face of inaction on the part of the admins, mods, and even to a certain extent other posters, the beat goes on and so will Spider.

And that's all I have to say about that :-)

Yeah I was caught up in my game along with being a little bit inebriated with my pain pills for my foot and some beers, my apologies for my poor manners. I used to take the forums way too seriously but have realized its just best not to, when our minds are made up on here or we take a stance we are all too hard headed and stubborn to waiver. Haha.

Well right now I am having trouble walking well, to be honest I hate pills and only take them if I really need them but I enjoy drinking so the combination can be quite brutal.

Oh, I see now.

You got a ball then, sorry for reading your situation wrong.
