DCC 14.1 Payouts

The DCC 14.1 Challenge is over. We had a successful event this year with a record amount of 49 entries and the tournament concluding with the final match at a reasonable hour. The 10 foot tables turned out to be quite a challenge for the players as the high runs were down considerably from years past.

The location of the tables at the venue were more spectator friendly which led to a lot of the pros hanging around just to kill some time. Thorsten, Darren, Max, Corey and Ralph Eckert were just a few that made the room their second home for the event.

Our gracious sponsors, Diamond Billiards, Stu Mattana, Rich Klein and Simonis Cloth added $7,250 to our $4,900 in entries which led to a total purse of $12,150.

Payouts include daily high run bonuses and $1000 for the high run of the event.

Max Eberle $2650
Stuart Pettman $2275
Dennis Orcollo $1700
Niels Feijen $1475
Alex Pagulayan $1200
Darren Appleton $1000
Ralph Eckert $850
Jayson Shaw $700
Adam Smith $200
Danny Harriman $100

In addition to the live stream all the matches and high run attempts were recorded and select ones will be up in the near future.

Thanks for your work and the info. The list of winners is surprising for those who didn't make it onto the list this year, including some of the watchers you mentioned. I'm glad to hear that the new room worked better.

It's not clear that the change to the 10-foot was a good idea. In the long run it might be good for all pro competition to change over, but leading in the change is hard. On the positive side, I imagine that the turns didn't take as long.

Thanks to Dennis, Marop and Elvicash. Their hard work made this event happen.

Bill thanks for the time and effort you put into the Derby 14.1 Challenge!

Thanks you Dennis also, and each and every one of the sponsors! Was great talking with Stu one morning about Irving Crane and his approach to the game. Also Paul Smith told me about Crane and the 10-footers...

There is a sense of trying to accomplish something in the straight pool division. Bob (thanks for your past work in challenges past), the new room was 1,000 times better than the other tiny room of yesteryear, and the 10 footers were just a joy to play on. Really made the game challenging and you just had to accept longer break shots which became fun for me once I started making them.

Thanks again,
Max

Glad you liked the new area, Max. I think if we are back in that area next year, I should make sure the front door stays closed most of the time to prevent people from walking in during games and runs. I think more than a few players were sharked while shooting, including a few guys that just needed to get into the next rack to qualify.

Gene, Bob and Stu: Thanks have been given to me, Bill and Dana, and I wanted to make sure that Rich Klein or Rich93 was credited, too. Not only was he a sponsor, but he spent quite a bit of time at the tables keeping score. We sometimes had three tables going at the same time. Terry Eads of Chicago also helped out with the scoring for a couple of days. Both Terry and Rich are part of our straight pool contingent out of Chicago who have played at Red Shoes and at the Illinois Billiard Club. Their assistance helped Bill and I break for meals once in a while.

Schmidtty, thanks for appreciating our efforts even though you were not able to even be there this year. You, yourself, are responsible for a lot of the increased interest in straight pool ever since you ran that 400 in your garage. I am happy that you were able to crown your accomplishments with the World Championship this year. And, just to show it was not a fluke, you followed up with the Crown in Maryland against a stellar field. We would have loved to have seen you work your magic on the ten foot tables, but, alas, it was not to be. Hopefully, you will be able to make it next year. By the way, Bill and I only wish we would have been able to get away with 10-12 hour days. They were more like 16 hour days and that last Thursday we had been up since 9 and did not finish until 2:30 a.m. But it was a labor of love and we are not complaining.
