DCC Bits and Pieces

Im going with T Watson -His backer use to just give him a bankroll to take to the DCC in the early days at Exec West which was considered outrageous even back then.

He was talking about DCC not DEEE-troit.

Ok, I'll stand corrected....I guess I just miss the Rack.

What happens at the DCC for nine days went on for years in Detroit.

The Rack is one historic spot. The building remained up til a couple years ago but even its gone now. You're lucky to have been there.

I have a friend who attended last year for the entire event just to watch and he said he got eaten up on daily admission fees. Claimed it was around $30 per day. He said if he entered the Banks competition he would be given free access to the entire event. That was his plan for this year but he was forced to miss due to a health issue.

I don't know if this is true, but if it is, that may account for the record number of entries in this years Banks competition.

It has been that way since the inception of the Derby. If I recall correctly GS said he did that on purpose to encourage people to play.

PT109, did you ever hear of Harry Sexton , aka Poochie from Detroit? Heard he was a top player back in the 70's.

Anyone hearing of action taking place that's not in Bigtruck's area. Are all the tables still being used.

How did lil John do on day 2 with Dennis. He lost 20k the first day in 3 losing sets. I can't imagine it got any better for him.

Harry Sexton had the perfect pool hall moniker for him...Poochie.
...his stance and the look on his face looked like his momma ordered hi to play pool...
....but he didn't really want to....
...and he played like a champion.

Edgar White was one of the great black players....won a huge money tournament in Vegas..
...first time I saw Poochie play...he played Edgar for $1,000 a game nine ball...
....Poochie got all the cash.

Edgar, by the way, was the famous Shake'n Bake.

Thanks for sharing that. in the late 80s he played VNEA in Vegas with a team from Windsor USA with Ronnie wiseman and Bobby Resin and a few other real good players. He was well into his sixties by then and Ronnie told me he had been a world class player in his day. He still was very good in the team format!!

Poochie ran around with Al Miller (Superstitious Aloysius) and they were a pretty good team. Both very strong players.

Played Poochie in Holland MI in the 90’s, got 1 shot and ran out, that was the only shot I had on a ball. He played perfect.

Who won the 2nd set with Dennis and Lil John? I think Dennis to 12, John to 5 per the PPV info.
Dennis beat Lil John a total of 4 sets giving up huge games on the wire handicap lol

Races were one 12 to 5
one 9-4
and they played two races to 10 to 4
