Am planning on going 3 day mid-week, and have never been to the BCA. Is it feasible to STAY Downtown in or around Fremont Street, and get up to the Riviera.

Is there a bus's, or tram back & forth. Cost?? Also to those who have gone before tell me if you know of any GREAT DEALS in Sin City during the BCA... ;)

The last time I was in Vegas there was a bus that got you to the strip from Freemont Street, I don't think it was more than a couple of dollars. Once I was on the strip, I just hopped in a cab.

Yes there are busses that are a couple of bucks that run from downtown to the strip. The busses stop at all of the casinos at a snails pace. Since the Riviers is on the nort side of the strip closest to downtown the trip may only have a couple of stop for the Strat and Sahara. They have a day pass for a couple of more bucks if you want to travel up and down the strip to gable.

Stay on the strip as close to the Riv as you can. Trying to get back and forth between matches or sometimes just getting there on time from downtown is a pain. Circus Circus has some cheap rates and is right across the Blvd from the Riv, or try the Sahara just up the strip, pretty easy walk.

I have been to several of these events. I find that it is easier and much more cost effective to simply rent an economy car....they are really cheap in Vegas. Then stay where you like...I usually stay downtown because I like Binion's, although they have changed somewhat now that they belong to Harrah's, but you can still get a truly cheap room mid-week downtown. Then drive to the Valet parking area at Riviera which is right at the door to the event. Stay as long as you want, give the valet guys a couple of bucks, get your car and then do it all again. I find that I don't leave and go back and forth anyways. Usually, I leave the event when I have had all I can stand for the day. Figure a downtown mid-week room $25-40/day...cheap rental car $15-20/day...freedom to come and go and then see the sights and eat where ever you want..priceless. BTW, take advantage of the valet parking at all the hotels. It is "free" with only a modest tip to the valets expected. If you want great service, stay at Binions and tip the valet $5 every time you come and go...they will park your car up close and you will be on your way.;)

From my expereinces in Vegas I would stay on the strip close to the casino that has the tournament. If at all posible stay in the same casino. Enjoy the trip and spend the little extra to stay close by. It will be worth it in the long run. Call the casinos direct, and look on their web sites for the best deals.

The buses get very crowded and are slow because of the traffic. Leaving from the downtown area is not too bad because of the transportation center and you are at the first stop. Leaving from the strip is another problem. The Riv is near the end of the strip and chances are that the bus will be full and will not let any passengers on.

Check Circus Circus, you should be able to get a cheap rate midweek. I stay there when I go to Vegas for the APA events. Not the nicest place but for the money and the location it is a very good deal. Just be prepared for kids to be everywhere.

Vegas ...

If you rent a car, then check out the Palace Station across the
bridge to the west, they have some good rates, and they give away
a car a day during May. Gambling is pretty good there too.

I have stayed at the Riv several times, but one year I had to stay
at the Circus Circus for part of the stay, and my room there was
much nicer than at the Riv.

I can not remember the name, but the Hotel just to the south
of the Circus Circus on same side has low rates if just looking for
a bed. (They also have the shrimp and strawberry shortcake
specials for just like $2 a piece). Circus Circus, then slots of fun,
then this place.

The Sands is not bad either, and in walking distance. Dinner shows
at the Sands are cheaper, and they are real enjoyable.

I was there in dec,the Westward ho was closed,im not sure what there plans are, if anyone knows i would like to hear the details,my teammates always rent a suite there, sleeps 6,real reasonable.I always stay at the Riv.they have a rate for bca, vnea, etc. All rates in Vegas are cheaper during the week, car rentals are cheap, check for deals.

Remember the GREAT FOOD Deal Catty Corner to the Baligo when I was hauling up load of Structural steel for the Baligio. Forget the places name, but they had a Steak, Eggs, Pancakes Breakfast with Coffee in the early a.m. It was like 299, and I could never finish it...,

Yes, the Westward Ho is closed. They imploded it sometime in November. Not sure what is going up in its place, but I think some condo's. Was in Vegas in October, and man condo's are going up everywhere!

I'd pay the extra bucks and stay close unless you plan on seeing a lot more of Vegas than just the strip. I went two years ago for the first time and took buses to see the city,etc... but I'm a bit of a nut and waiting 15 minutes in 105 degree heat for a crowded bus to show up doesn't faze me as much as it might others.

If you don't drink too much booze and get burned out by watching too much pool, renting a car might be the ticket. I got bored in about 10 minutes watching bar table pool when I went, so I meandered around the city on buses to avoid any hassles with driving- its hard not to be above DUI level in Vegas when every drink is either free or two feet tall.

There's a cheap vietnamese place pretty close ( 1 mile, maybe) to the Riviera that had decent food for cheap that was different than your normal buffet food. The fish sandwich at Outback was halibut and less than ten bucks; not a bad deal.
