Does anybody remember my good friend Richie Austin ? He got railroaded and did 31 years on death row. He died 2 years ago, sadly. I have 30 hours of him corresponding with me, it's really interesting to say the least. He played all the champions for years, and beat alot of them. I would very much enjoy hearing some of that type of content. I would think it would be easy enough to convert into a mp3 file. I assume it's probably a cassette tape... a person can buy these Digital Voice recorders for around 70.00, that have a audio input, so you just get a cheap cable to run from your headphone jack in the cassette player to the audio in of the Digital recorder and it will convert it to MP3. They are USB, so very easy to get to your computer at that point.

Yes Bobby, I remember Richie Austin, one of the most feared money players in the South. I saw him play one time in Memphis, with Omaha John. I don't remember who won that day because I got a game of my own, and I had to take care of business. Richie seemed like an all right guy to me the little that I was around him. Just another hard core hustler, kind of like you Bobby. I had no problem with people like that back then, they were my peers. :wink:
I was truly sorry when I heard he got sent up for life. I never really knew what happened and why he took the fall, juat that a guy died (a cop?) and Richie took the blame for it. Pretty sad that he rotted away his life in a hole.

I saw him play once too, in Chicago in the '60s. Took on an Alabama native named Franklin Floyd, whom we all called "The Ghost" (he looked like he would sunburn all too easily, if he ever indeed saw the sun). I guess they broke about even, playing 9-ball on a 5' x 10'; what I remember most is that the cigar Austin smoked appeared to be about half the size of his cue. GF
