Dechaine's decision paying off for now...

Actually the being on TV part means making more money...

People keep talking about whether it's more profitable to play in BB vs. some other tournaments, as if money were the only thing worth talking about.

Is mike potentially missing out on some money? Who cares? He lost money the instant he realized he wanted to play pool for a living. Honestly if he wants more guaranteed money, Mike can just be an assistant manager at Applebee's and play pool in his free time. At least the check always clears.

Mike wants a string of tournament wins under his belt and he wants to be on TV. There's nothing wrong with that. Nobody grew up dreaming they'd someday be a bonus ball champion. Maybe the next generation will.

With the state of pool, sponsorships mean much more than tournament winnings, especially if you're capable of being the best. Being on TV gives you a much better bargaining chip when negotiating with potential or renegotiating with current sponsors.

It could end up being more money for Mike to have played in the tournament he did than playing in the us open, besides which, At least then he might actually get paid.

That's why I posted that once he made his reasons clear that his decisions made sense.

Also, since he was captain of his BB team, even though they would've let him out to play in a tournament and using an alternate, I can't imagine that they would let a whole team out to play a tournament and as captain it wouldn't be good pr to leave your team high and dry to go play in a tourney anyways.

Image is a lot in an endeavor where sponsorships are key, so again, I believe that Mike has good reason for the decisions he made when really thinking about it.

I just think that as an american that plays well enough to win the open you should have to play. How can you miss the most important event on american ground?

Because the schedule change for the open conflicted with his prior obligation to play the trick shot competition.

Well said.. Your answers to this joker are spot on, he's absolutely clueless!! Nicely done JJ!

I find it humorous (and sad at the same time) when basically anonymous posters tell people like Mike that they're making improper decisions on their livlihood.

Mike, you are so stupid! LMAO

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to you rising strong in The Cup Mike! With one year under your belt (where you played damn good - I was the one sitting behind Santa giving him kidney punches), I suspect this year you'll have that experience under your belt that can jack you up another notch.

Give them Euro's the Pain from Maine!

If u care so much about the mosconi cup then why not show up to the us open. How much money did u get for being at the trick shot tournament. Svb got 25000 for the us open. Are u even goin to show up for the mosconi cup?

I believe at this point, Mike Dechaine has been paid more and spent less than SVB.

Barry and the Open had not paid the top 6 players last I checked.

On a similar note, yrs ago I remember the interview of the oldest woman in the US and she was 114 yr old, ''what do you attribute to your longevity'', keep in mind she was born in the 1800's.... her exact words...................''tend to your own business''.

Last time I checked Mike was an adult and can make decisions on his own. He didn't play the US Open, probably made more doing trick shots then he would of at the Open, got TV exposure and still got on the Mosconi Cup team. Like him or hate him, that sounds like a pretty good decision to me.
