Dechaine's decision paying off for now...

I'm not a huge Dechaine fan but, Like him or not...you have to respect Mike for the fact that he does come on this forum to answer his naysayers. And he does so in a straightforward no nonsense fashion and is respectful in how he does it.

What other sport do the top players interact directly with the fans of the sport?

For his sake I hope he wins 2 of those a month
BB pays pretty sporty. Personally I think it was a poor decision

Were you there Tommy? Because he did say that, now whether he meant it or not, I don't know. As far as this BB thing goes, I've told you guys that I don't like the fact that they booked over other great tournaments. This is a concern for me the Mosconi Cup rankings as well. I wish nothing but BB the best and if it comes back for a season 2, I may consider if I got an invite.

As for the US Open, I decided to play in the World Cup of Trick Shots instead. What I DO know, is this was one of the best decisions of my life. Not only will I have TV time, but I had the privilege to be around some of the best entertainers of our sport. I understand some players/people may view trick shot artists differently, but they have tons of talent and are very knowledgable about our industry.

Thanks
MD

Good on you Mike!

Win some more...............

If u care so much about the mosconi cup then why not show up to the us open. How much money did u get for being at the trick shot tournament. Svb got 25000 for the us open. Are u even goin to show up for the mosconi cup?

:withstupid:

Both MD and SVB had locked in Mosconi Cup points before the US Open. What if you're a professional pool player and you dont make the Open you are pissing on the pool world?? Too funny

The second highlighted sentence is just plain retarded and doesn't need to be touched. Why would Mike not go to something every player alive would kill to play in?? Oh and they players get paid very handsomely by match room so you would be a fool not to go. I guess since Mike didnt make the Open or play in BB that he wont go to the cup. Yeah ok...

Good luck to you Mike Dechaine and the rest of the USA team. Rock the shit out of those smelly Europeans!!!!! :groucho:

I have a feeling this is going to be an Epic Mosconi Cup. I am looking forward to spending time over in London and being around some great Pool players. Thank you guys for the kind words.

Thanks for coming on here every now and then. Wish you would do another question session someday.

Thanks for stopping by here now and again.

Best of luck to you and the rest of the team. Give'em hell!

I just think that as an american that plays well enough to win the open you should have to play. How can you miss the most important event on american ground?

Best part of being an American is that you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Being Free is pretty flipping awesome!!

Everything stated here makes perfect sense...

Hey Mike, yeah your reasons make good sense. I don't know if I could've done the same, the guaranteed $25K has got to be pretty tempting...

Although with the way things have gone with pool there's gotta be that thought in the back of your mind, what if I miss out on all these other tourneys and they don't pay???

Maybe that's why waiting till the second season may make sense too.

Take it easy man...

I just think it looks pretty bad when one of the best americans wont even support the largest american tournament. Oh and even though dechaine probably would have had a spot anyway he could have not made the top two in points if brandon shuff would have won the open

No professional pool player is required (except for BB which is a first!!!) to attend any event. There is no governing body (except the ABP but that's a whole other 1000 page thread) that require players to show up to certain events. I get what you are saying but pool in the states isn't like a major snooker event. Only us 100k or so hardcore players and fans will know about certain players not showing up. The other hundreds upon millions of Americans didn't even know that the US Open went off.

So that being said Mike can do as he pleases or sees fit to where he wants to be. Too bad for him because from the sounds of things there may never be another US Open :(

I understand and i dont know how much he got for the trick shot tourny but im sure it was worth it for im, i just like seeing an american win the us open and i wanted dechaine to be there. Pool has some issues in america but i think if americans like mike and svb keep winning american events it might spark something in the public.

Who would want to be associated with the public?

Mike can certainly speak for himself, but let me see if I can help you out here.

If I remember it correctly (and I may not) originally the two events (The US Open and the trick shot competition) were not during the same week. But then Barry Berhman changed the US Open dates, AFTER Mike had already committed to the trick shot competition.

To his credit, Mike didn't bail on his commitment to the trick shot folks. He has stated his reasons here a few times, and I'm too damned lazy to search for the threads with the complete details.

So that's why Mike wasn't at The US Open. If the US Open hadn't changed their dates after he had committed to something else. To me, that doesn't "look bad" at all.

Again, this is all from my memory, and may not be completely accurate, but I'm confident that I'm close.

Best of luck in London, Mike and Team USA!

You should ask Danny Harrriman the same question.

There are plenty of people that do t make the Open. Hell Dennis Hatch barely left New York state and he made the cup team!! Oh and Dennis didn't make the Open aswell....

People keep talking about whether it's more profitable to play in BB vs. some other tournaments, as if money were the only thing worth talking about.

Is mike potentially missing out on some money? Who cares? He lost money the instant he realized he wanted to play pool for a living. Honestly if he wants more guaranteed money, Mike can just be an assistant manager at Applebee's and play pool in his free time. At least the check always clears.

Mike wants a string of tournament wins under his belt and he wants to be on TV. There's nothing wrong with that. Nobody grew up dreaming they'd someday be a bonus ball champion. Maybe the next generation will.

Well said.. Your answers to this joker are spot on, he's absolutely clueless!! Nicely done JJ!

zmfb23...Look, just give it up. You're beating a dead horse. :deadhorse: Mike chose to play in another very high profile event, and is happy with his decision. Who are you to dictate who should and shouldn't play in any tournament...even the US Open? BTW, at least Mike got PAID. I haven't heard of Shane getting his $25K check to clear yet...let alone any of the others.
