When a cue maker sponsors a player they will generally tune the equipment to the player's request. The players don't just play off the rack
Correct. Dennis spent a week with Meucci fine tuning his cues.

Pro players will be "Cutting Cards" for your services!!!
Based on how well you have helped Orcollo over the years. Any idea who Tiger will sponser next??? Rodney Morris, Shuff and Bergman may benefit from the vacancy. They are the only 3 mosconi cup players around not signed to Meucci and cuetec! Some players are cue sensitive and won't take a sponsor for fear of hurting their game. I think Oscar is that way? Sadly, Tiger lost its golden goose!!!

DO was seen playing with his SW on numerous occasions so that very well could be the reason they didn't re up ,,"

I thought he got a better offer from Meucci and went to the highest bidder???
The "re up" comment above is a new piece of information I have not heard before???
Did Tiger "Drop" Orcollo or did they get out bid???
Don't matter really but I am curious.

A lot closer to the truth here.

Thank you for this. I acted as Dennis' agent for the Tiger deal and advised him on his contract with Meucci. Trust me, he has a good contract that is lucrative for him, a fitting deal for one of the world's top players.
By the way, he liked his Tiger cues, although it took him some time to adjust to playing with them. He loves his new Meucci cues and is already playing better than he did before. I guess that part is obvious.![]()

... My advise to anybody who wants to play better is to find a cue that you can "trust" and stick with it. ...
This is a golden nugget of information that is absolutely true and is not understood by most people...
When Earl was using Cuetecs he changed the shaft by a lot, he had (has?) a long straight taper that was well past what we call a "pro" taper.
So, is that new purple heart / ebony full-splice about finished?
As a matter of fact it is.
You can see it in this thread.

I had this cue built as an "experiment" because I like a Meucci Pro shaft I have and I didn't have a butt that it fit, except for a cue that I bought as an investment and I didn't want to beat that cue's butt up while playing with the Meucci shaft.
Most people have a butt that they want a shaft built for. In my case, I had a shaft and then had a butt built around the shaft. Since I was having a butt built with a pin and shaft that doesn't work with the majority of my cues, I decided to create a cue that is nothing like any of my other cues, except for the specs. It is the only cue I have that has an ebony front, the only cue that doesn't have veneers, the only cue with a glass pin, the only cue with no metal in it, and the only cue without a linen wrap.
This cue is also a "no frills" cue that didn't cost me a lot of money and is a cue that I will use as a banger that I'm not worried about getting dinged up a bit. Most of my other cues are more expensive, in close to perfect condition, or have been refinished and I don't want to get them dirty just yet. It was built around the Meucci Pro, a LD shaft, and I also had a conventional maple shaft made for it. I have been playing with a Predator FAT shaft for the last few years, but I still prefer the feel of a maple shaft, so I had the maple shaft built to the same specs as the Predator FAT...minus the LD stuff, except for a short XTC ferrule.
I haven't shot a ball with it yet, since I just got it yesterday. I will find out how it plays on Sunday, when I go to Hawaiian Brian's. I'm hoping it plays as well as the cue I now use. I'm at a point where I know it isn't the cue that is going to make me any better, I'm just looking for something to "bang around with" and do ram shots with.![]()
You didn't want to use the Meucci Pro shaft on your CJ McDermott butt? You know, you could have had the Meucci shaft's joint plugged and re-done to fit one of your other butts. Maybe you'll end up doing that if you don't like the way the new cue plays. Or, just get another McDermott butt. But getting a new butt with your own specs is always fun; I hope it serves you well.
Any cue maker will do this for anybody, if you pay them.
Most people don't know what they want in the first place or wouldn't know what to adjust to make the cue play better for them anyway.
It is like bowling balls, you adjust the equipment to fit the player's style. You don't drill a ball like a "rack ball" and expect a pro to use it. You fit the ball to the player, not the player to the ball.
If you know you play better with a 19 ounce cue, you don't just take a cue from the sponsor that weighs 21 ounces and adjust, you have them give you a 19 ounce cue.
If you don't like a Emerald tip (if that is their "standard"), you have them put on something else. The same goes for shaft length, diameter, etc.
I have a Meucci Pro that is 30 1/4" that was custom built...it isn't their standard.
A sponsor should want their player to play their best and I would think they would go out of their way to tailor the cue to what they wanted.
Everybody wants to know what the "pro" uses and thinks that if they buy the same thing it will make them better, but that isn't the case most of the time. Everybody shoots differently and "feels" the ball differently. Personally, I hate hard tips, but tons of people like them. I hate skinny shafts, but more people use them. It is what you feel "most" comfortable with and "trust" that makes the difference. It is like the article where Dennis was looking for a cue that played like his old one and was having to adjust to a different one. He was looking for a cue he could "trust". If I shoot shots over and over and everything works out like I planned, it means that the cue is performing like I anticipated it would before I shot. I then "trust" that the cue will do the same thing, over and over. If something goofs up after that, it is most likely me and not the cue.
Personally, I have never found a Southwest that I liked and everybody thinks they are the greatest cues in the world. I've actually played with house cues that I would prefer playing with over a Southwest. It isn't anything against them, it is just that I don't like the "feel" of them as well as I do some cues that don't cost anything near what they cost.
My advise to anybody who wants to play better is to find a cue that you can "trust" and stick with it. Don't be changing shit all the time.
