Denver Pool Halls Closing

The latest rumors are, and there are a lot of them:

  • Table Steaks-Antoinette is reopening one of these days
  • Charlies-opening under new management, more like a sports bar
  • Bobby B-opening his own room in Aurora

If all is true it's like famine or feast around here (in that order).
Wish Hank would just fix his place up a little.
I like it there, reminds me of the good old days.

Peace

Ted

Thanks for the update - let's keep our fingers crossed...I think ;)

I feel the same way about Hanks. I dont care about the decor but he needs to fix up the 9 foot tables. And you can't beat playing from 10 AM to 4 PM for $6.00.
Charlies like a sports bar!!!!!

Charlies will still be a pool hall but they need to get away from it turning
into a kid's place, like the original Colo Cue Club did.
They can't make money from kid's spending quarters.
Maybe the sports bar idea will help maintain an adult atmosphere, and improve their food & alcohol sales.

For Hanks, I don't care about the decor either, but some people do.
Their GC's are OK in my opinion....a little slow.

I'm with you all on this. Hank's is where the history is. In the meantime, I've opened up my offer for home table action to any time but Friday or Saturday night, but the thread has gone dormant.

Well let's get something together. Can anyone meet at hanks next thursday afternoon to put this together.

Thurs the 27th or Feb the 3rd ? I can make either one but not until after 4 PM.

I could make it out thurs. evening, (the 27th) to the hall or to meet up at someones house, I have had a few ideas about this "house league" / "home tourney", and would love to run it by some folks and see what the thoughts are.

If we don't end up meeting up anywhere this week, let's try to set something up for next week.

I would love to see this happen...

Dave

I think that it will happen but maybe weekly is to much to start with. A once or twice a month thing might work out better. I hope it works out for all the front range players that are interested. To me it seems like a perfect way to shoot pool and find out who some of you folks are. For all I know some of you are not even real:grin::o.

Colfax

Is Colfax Billiards still open? I lived in the Spring for a couple of years back in the 80's & used to find action there...

Colfax Billiards has been closed for a long time.
It turned into the Billiard Institute which has also closed.

The Gold Crown tables at Table Steaks South that just closed were from Colfax Billiards, same original owner-Frank Burgess.
They still say "Colfax Billiards since 1965" on the side.
Frank got his monies worth out of those tables.

Any news yet on Billiards Ink and the other pool halls reopening?

The rumors have gone full circle, but from what I can tell, nothing has really changed.
I'm just trying to support Hank's & Greenfield's.
Hank & Todd pay their bills and keep the doors open, which is kind of a big deal these days.

Table Stakes liquor license hearing is coming up soon according to the posting on the door and they have a dumpster out side. Looks like their changing up the ball dispensing counter area since it's torn out now. The bar boxes are gone, probably back to the vendor.

Interesting. Aren't the bar boxes more profitable to have than the regulation tables?

I hope the new management will focus some attention on serving REAL food, similar to what the old Table Steaks offered. :)

There might be more money in bar boxes but not when they are idle in a room that may or may not open. I agree that a better menu might be a big plus.

I was in Denver yesterday not far from Billiards Ink and wanted to stop by and "window shop" but with a storm raging in the mountains I felt I should......git:).

Keep in mind Hanks history of owning bars with bar tables, his true weakness is the pool table, and Hank could ''play a little'' and then some, this is why it may work out. You all Denver players have to somehow turn his thinking to ''billiard room''. He's so old school bar/liquor/chicano,bar liquor that its very difficult to break the Old Dog habits he has from being in Denver for what? 35 years in dive bars? He's the right person and a great guy with the sticktutiveness and the ''history'' to keep this place open, personally, I think it's up to you all up north to slowly make this happen. We need to ''embrace'' Hank for hankin in there. Our game needs to keep this place open. It feels like the only pool rooms that will survive this economic/societal/internet/lazy mouse operated society downturn we are in are the iconic pool rooms that society knows where they are at, Hanks is like like an old links golf course, and in CO Sprgs we supposidly have the oldest links golf course in the US to still be open. It feels like our "culture'' (Hanks) needs to be kept intact to lure in those who want to play this great game. It's difficult to make history with two bar tables in a mall that serve liquor. You all in Denver need to ''pamper Hank'', he'll come around, but it'll take time, treat em like your favorite cousin, he is FAMILY.
