Denver Pool Halls Closing

I will get to Match up's but not for awhile. I am still sporting a cast from my knee down:(. I hope to get into a walking cast by the end of this month. I saw pics of Match up's online tonight and it looks great. When I head that way I will give you a shout Dave, thanks. Jim.

get well soon!

Paradise is now Hanks. The sign still says Paradise.38th and Sheridan.
they have 7 or 8 9 footers.

Thanks Bruce, I had a lot of fun there one night I was playing one hole and a small group was watching. My buddy broke and left me with a shot in the pack, I made it and proceeded to run 7 more:D. That does not happen often to me but I acted like I do it every game:p. I remember the parking was limited but it seemed like a place I could get used too.

If anyone hears anything about the tables at billiards ink being for sale, please post it up. I'd love to snag one of those GC1's

Hank's Billiards (old Paradise) is doing well. They have the best Golf action(7-8 handed 10/1) in there 6 days a week, all day, and occasionally on Sundays. They have 7 gold crowns, a billiards table, 2 5x10's, and a bunch of bar boxes. They also have really good green chile and a good pool special Mon-Sat 10-4 for 6$. Hank isn't running any tourneys because they don't cover his expenses for running them, but he does run the best bar table leagues in town with 100% payback and added money. I'm in there a few times a week playing one-hole and practicing, shoot me a pm if you want to meet up for a game, gambling or not.

I just remembered the Skylark lounge on South Broadway where Tom Ross holds his pool clinics has an old Brunswick Anniversary table and 2 other 9 footers upstairs over the bar.I was there once and at that time the Anniversary table was in top shape and I was really surprised to find this hidden gem. This is the same style table I learned to play on 50 years ago.

Who Knows?

Maybe this kind of bad news thread can give other pool rooms in the region a boost by reminding some of us there are a few options left.
I know I will support the rooms that are surviving and bring friends!

I'm not sure if the Lark is open with Tom on the mend. Maybe someone can give us some insight. If it is open it would be cool to try and ramp up business for him. I would put his place at the top of my weekly rotation to show my support and to help a brother out. Maybe Dr Dave can give us a heads up.

I forgot about the Skylark. Call 1st because not sure when they open. Tom did a great job of getting that place going w/pool.

Sorry to hear about those rooms closing. You still have Antique Billiards down in Colorado Springs as well. Bit of a haul though.

Gambling is gambling, and business is business. The two don't mix. :(

Unless Gambling IS the business. A casino taught me long ago, my 21st birthday, that I have no business gambling. It was all the money I had at that time, but I still consider it a cheap lesson, 46 years later...:)

No wonder we can't bring home the cup! Everybodys afraid to play on the 'real' tables these days. I don't know about other areas, but recently here in the Colorado area, the only larger end tournaments with a decent payout are bar table tournaments. Not that I don't respect a good barbox game, but the Mosconi Cup, US Open, World 10 Ball, San Miguel tour........................................all the major events that draw international players are on 'real' (9 footers) tables.
Take "Joe" from APA against Earl in a race to 5 on a 9 footer, and he'll never win. Do the same on a bar box, and "Joe" from APA has chance.
RANT!
dave

Sorry Guy, but APA Joe has no chance on either size table!

LOLS, Cheers

Back when I used to go to the Springs to play this place rocked. They had all different kinds of antique pool tables. There was also plenty of Gold crowns and a few snooker tables also. I was back there about three or four years ago and they had changed out many of the vintage nine footers and replaced them with Diamond boxes:(. Sorry I just loved the big old tables but it made sense to go with what keeps you in business.

I know I haven't been in Colorado in about 10 years and may be way off about what's there but what about Colfax Billiards, The Fun center in Denver, Shakespeare's or the Mirage in littleton? The Foundary in Boulder? Have they all closed too? I know a few of these didn't really hold tournaments very often but they could with a good TD.

I'm also sad to hear about Table steaks/Billiards Ink closing down. I really hope it's just temporary as I was hoping to play there again on my next visit to Colorado. That place is a bit of an institution. I used to really look forward to the tournaments there and to playing with the serious and somewhat well known players that would show.

Ill live in Boulder, sadly, and the foundry is gone, colfax billiards is long gone. I think the others as well.

Thanks for the update.. that really blows! It's starting to sound like there's almost no where to play on a 9 footer from Denver to the Wyoming border.

Denver Open/Colfax

It's a sad day, we had it all, the Denver Open, Medina in his prime, Sigel there, and Earl uncorkin' in front of Cheuy on a straight in shot that Cheuy dogged. From this moment, 'uncorkin' was automatic loss of game/set during opponents time at table, Cheuy might of earned it. The old crew were there, Scott Smith running the event. It was the early eighties and Buddy Hall ''gets it all'' was not the man to try and beat. Thx Frank/Denny/Big Bird and late night crew, it was the real deal....

Grew up in Denver

Loved Table Steaks, but it was too far from my home in Golden to drive, so my home room is Hank's. Still, sorry to learn this news. I remember the days in the '60s when Family Fun Center attracted every road man in the country -- saw Eddie Kelley, Buddy Hall, Weenie Beanie, Bill Stroud, many others. Our local shortstop was Andy Hudson, who gave the road men all they could handle and often, more.

The Denver pool scene has so withered in 40 years.

I'm selling my cues and quiting the game. I missed all the good times back in the day and now all I have to look forward to is bar box's and BANGERS.
Diamond pro for sale $56,000........ knock off $52,000 for being one of those stinking nine footers.
