Derby City Dress Code

I never knew there was a dress code at DCC, and when I arrive tomorrow, I'll be attending my tenth. There has never been a pool event where dress is this casual, but it sets the right mood for the event.

Professional event? LOL. yeah, sure.

Professionals DO NOT PAY to enter, they get paid. This is where all your confusion is coming from.

When pool becomes professional, then by all means yes. Until then, not so much.

Then by your definition, the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) are not actually professionals because they too have an entry fee.

Maniac (and I'm sure there are plenty of other examples)

Show a bit of class for the art of Pocket Billiards..Don't be a stinker and what ever you do dont grab your arsh or crotch and scratch it Plummer boys and try to leave your little baseball hat at home boys, don't worry you all still can be cool and macho..

Monday qualifiers on the PGATour pay entry fees. Not all professional sports are fee-less.

We're also missing the bigger picture here: This is a privately held event run and sponsored by private individuals and companies. They can set whatever the hell policies and dress codes they like.

Proffesional means that's their main source of income - pool tournaments do not provide a living except for the very top players and then barely in most cases.

Look at the AZ money list and get back to me.

The final table at the WSOP had hoodies and t shirts. Attire is not holding pool back. If it was exciting to watch and could get large audiences, the big sponsors would be here.

When pool has as much money at stake as poker, then pool players can wear whatever they want.

I can't believe this is even a discussion.

Nobody suggested pool players should wear suits. Suits were only brought up by someone whose wife left him for someone who dressed better....or something like that, doesn't matter.

Just face it, you don't know how to dress. Listen to people who do and wear a collared shirt. If you can't bring yourself to wear actual pants, at least wear clean jeans that fit. Shoes... I know we've already asked a lot so just pick a pair that you didn't mow your lawn in last week.

I can't believe you would have such a low opinion of what the sport needs to move ahead.

Currently, we're one step ahead of cock fighting, and that's only because there's no chicken blood spraying the spectators and bettors.

Who said I approve?

.... but the Derby is what it is and expecting something other than what we've always gotten as far as attire is concerned is unrealistic.

I am surprised you would take such an apathetic position — we should aspire to do better, IMO.

If DCC were to change anything, I’d much rather they record match scores and report them to Fargorate then worry about a dress code. DCC is THE unifying tournament for amateurs, unless you like leagues.

The monday qualifiers may pay a entry fee(i,m not sure, but i don,t doubt you) but i definately know that there is no entry fee for the events,as i have a couple of buddies who play the tour. There was, however, for most of my life anyway,a $100 dollar entry fee into all pga events until they finally realized how ridiculous it was to charge a hundred bucks to guys playing in ten million dollar purses,so they finally did away with the measley (by comparison) entry fee. I have many buddies who have caddied on all the tours(pga,lpga,etc...) and if i told you the various ways the players and caddies make money each week(wearing a hat, glove, shirt with LOGO,etc... The caddies ESPECIALLY,will do whatever to supplement their income.(and i would too)

I don,t want the players to be forced to wear something uncomfortable or go back to the old days of suits and tuxes, but if they ever want any chance of sponsorship money added to purses,or better yet,a tour sponsor with money added to EVERY event, then at least cut out the sweat pants and tee shirts with pot leaves etc...on them. Something like khakis or jeans and a collared(golf shirt or something) isn,t too much to ask at all.

This "sport" needs a morphine drip, exorcism, and a miracle.

People loved the hustler and TCOM BECAUSE of the gambling etc, not in spite of it. Why do you think every show on TV is about murder, theft, scams, etc? Go to church on Sunday if you must, but people want what people want and that's criminal activity.

No matter how many professional ball players beat their GFs/wives, murder people, or deal drugs the public loves it and it doesnt faze the viewers one bit.

Pool has a pool problem not a dress code problem.

Believe me, I wish a dress code would fix it. I'd be the first to dress up. It's never gonna happen.

I’m not saying it would fix anything — it’s just a small step in the right direction.

Right now, a potential sponsor walking into a pool event is probably going to take one look around at the homeless convention and walk right back out.
