Hey friends. I won a qualifier to go to Derby City. I've never been before. I'm aiming to play the pro 9 ball event. Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding the Horseshoe hotel or any other traveling details?

It seems the hotel may be full. Anyone have an inside track for rooms or any advice?

All help appreciated!

There are hotels down the road in New Albany that may be available if the Horseshoe isn't an option. That is a rough way to go if you are playing, but it's better than not going at all. I would call the Horseshoe first to make sure they are full. Good luck to you.

I prefer to stay in New Albany. Its a change of scenery and gives you more food options. Trapped at the Horseshoe with no other food options for 9 days is tougher than the drive. Hotels are cheap in New Albany especially when you stay with Marriott points!

To my dying day I would say stay at the Casino Hotel if you can get a room. For the times when you're out of the tournament, and you been up 20 hours watching all the tourney and gambling matches.

You don't want a 15 mile drive to your hotel after all that. You wanna stumble back to your room and into bed.

I would agree with this.

Do I like the jacked up rate for what would otherwise be a $50 room, paper thin walls, and that the rooms generally reek of cigarette smoke even in the non-smoking rooms? No. But you can't beat staying at the casino for convience. And if you want dining variety you can still plan on the 30 mile round trip if you are so inclined.

I just go to watch the one pocket and stay in New Albany, this year I will be at the Holiday Inn, but usually at the Best Western, and either are fine and reasonable in price.

Yep it would be better to stay at Casino, but to me it isn't as critical as I am a spectator and not a player.

The ripoff rates at casino is just a burr on my a$$, but I guess that is just life. So I just avoid it by going to New Albany.

I'll be at the Best Western for the same reasons.

Is one of them the old Hampton Inn?

The Best Western and the HI Express are within a block of each other near I-64. There is currently a Hampton Inn by I-65 which is a couple of miles farther from the casino.
