Can I sleep in my car overnight on location at the Horseshoe?

How do I gamble on pool? I am of B level skill. I wouldn't mind playing for money or betting on matches. I am a VERY novice gambler when it comes to pool. I do not want to bet big money, but enough to make it interesting. $20 to $50. Whether it be watching a match or playing a set.
How do I bring it up? Who do I talk to? When can I play? Who do I play? How do 2 people who have never met, match up? I don't want to find out at 6 games to 0 games in a race to 7, that the guy I am playing is way better than me.

How do I get a good seat at the TV table? What kind of price does it cost to get a good seat at the finals of the One pocket? What does it cost to watch a regular match on the TV table?

Will there be vendors I could purchase a cue case from?

Sorry for so many questions. Just getting anxious for my first Derby.
Thanks in advance

If I were you, I would not even leave your house!........lol. No really, If you are unsure of what you are doing or who you are playing, don't bet.

Could turn out to be a rather expensive learning experience.

Be very careful and be smart.

Have fun!!

Russ....

I don't know about the sleeping in the car thing, but I can assure you that it will be very cold so bring a blanket.

As for the gambling thing, I wouldn't say that the DCC is the best place to try to "learn" how to match up. You could always just ask how well someone plays and take their word for it...lol. But seriously just try to negotiate a fair game and ask to adjust if it gets too uncomfortable. That is all you can do. Also if you happen to notice that your match is being recorded, I would say that you probably stepped into the wrong game.

Get ready for a great time tho, it is a very good experience.

While you may be a champion in banger's clothing, if you're not and want to gamble, you might work on the shmucks in the AZRoom but that will require you to pay $25 in advance. You can check with Stevelomako in the DCC forum to see if he is still accepting checks...

Seats at the TV Table. YOu can purchase some but most other good seats can be had free of charge and the early bird gets the best seats. All the seats are pretty good (bleacher style).

YOu can't always determine who is better than you are and sometimes it's more fun that way. The lesson lasts a lot longer if it is mixed with a little pain.

The car in the parking lot could be a VERY COLD CAR. Negotiate a spot on the floor of someone's room and bring a sleeping bag. Find someone who is from your town or put your name, address, phone number and where you work out there for everyone to know who you are in advance to have a chance to stay in THEIR room.

Good luck in your quest.

Just get a seat near the TAR booth and NEVER LEAVE!!!!! You will find all the action you can handle and see the best pool.

If you serious I would suggest not gambling at all because every killer is going to be there(known and unknown).

when you get there, find a guy named cliff joyner...he will take care of you and show you everything you need to know.

I concur. Cliff will find you the best parking spot/resting place. Also, are you familiar with the terms "walking stick" and/or "jelly"?

If you try to gamble without being wise, don't worry. You will definitely be sleeping in your car by mid-week :D .

Sleeping in your car is real unhealthy. If you don't freeze, you might get mugged or arrested.

About the gambling... get some material that looks like money & sew it to your shirts... get "wanna Play some", stenciled on your shirt & you won't have to worry about introductions, you will be able to focus on matching up.

I would ask for the Break & the Orange Crush. Then offer to adjust after the first set, only if you are up. If you are the looser, shake hands & quit.

That's what I thought..lol.. I guess I better not use the Derby as a learning experience. Thanks for all the answers guys.
ceebee, nice reply. I will have my wife knit me a real nice sweater out of fake money.
I will be sure to look up this guy you call Cliff. What does he look like? Where can I find him? Can I beat him? Should I show him my new sweater?

Just kidding, I know who Cliff is.
Thanks again for the replies. See you at the Derby "lets play some"

My advice, keep your hands in your pockets, and just be a good observer. You'll learn a lot if you pay attention, and it won't cost you much either. That way, you'll be better equipped when you come back next year.

Free advice? How much will it cost me?

If you are going, and it seems like you are, I would go with someone who is familiar with the scene. Don't you have someone local you can tag along with? If I was gonna go, I would go with a friend of mine who is a big dog who can hang with the best of em. I would stick close to him and let him fill me in. If a game just happened to come my way, I would do so, because I trusted my sidekick. I wouldn't bet anything serious either. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people your speed you can play. You just have to soak into the scene and keep your radar sharp.

Good luck dude. Treat the entire experience as a stepping stone towards a more stepping stones.

Its a great place go and Play in the Banks.

Play in the bank pool, you will get front row seats after you loose out., there are clean, hotels for the fifty aday your planing on looseing. Look for Shane Vanboeing, or Alex Paglan, Gabe Owen, And watch their matches-banks ,10-ball, one-pocket. If you can't do this one, Hold off for the 2009 Allen Hopins Expo. And buy a bk like Joe Tuckers, A New Cue,case ,tips. Look For Jay Helfert-- can't miss that short bald guy. I spent time watching Matches with Mr. Larry Price and Ronnie Allen. mark
