DerbyCity going to Nashville...???

The "it's close to headquarters" has to be the dumbest reason ever - once the tables go in a truck all that's left is driving, doesn't matter if it's 1hr or 10. Point is, the hard part is loading and unloading then setup.

Shithole location, terrible food and no more action award which was the whole reason behind the derby.

Everybody hates the venue, just move it.

It costs me more in time and money to move across the country than across town.

The EI was no garden spot. Food situation was not much better and security was lax at best. They tried another spot once(SouthernClassic) and that wasn't a roaring success. IMO location doesn't matter as long as its run right. Name a place that's going to be a big step up. Every location is gonna have its pros/cons. Pool players are gonna bitch regardless of where this thing is held. Book it. ;)

Sure. 10hrs was just the point that driving is easy.

Everybody hates the place

Everyone but Diamond.

I think you have to consider that the whole tournament staff probably works at the factory -- do the math: Jeffersonville IN to New Albany, IN vs anywhere else they were to move to. Makes total sense for them to be at Caesar's from that persepective.

Yep. Its a home game for them. I went to Tunica in '12 and it seemed to run ok but had the same issues as to food, etc. The place was fine and i liked the golf on property part. Our hotel tower had a shuttle over to tourn. room and they kept the a/c cold(summer event) so that was a plus. Greg was hoping to start a tour based on DCC but couldn't get sponsors on board so it stopped after two events. https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/2014-southern-classic-tunica-cancelled.338317/

I guess people are going to keep showing up anyway

“everyone hates the venue” is as accurate of a statement as has ever been made on this site.

Yep, Tunica was cool!

A place W. of FLA and E. of TX.
Close to a major airport.
Airport Must have shuttle service to the complex area.
I'd prefer no casino, let the player$ do their thing.
Casinos no longer give ''up front'' like in their past.
They take up front/in the middle and the ''rear''.
A friend of mine was in FL two weeks ago, volleyball tournament for his daughter 17.
Was more than $60 a night to park your rental car at the hotel that your room was at.

$150 a night for two.
Close to various restaurants with great local/gulf seafood.

15 years ago I mentioned to Greg Sullivan that Harrahs Cherokee in North Carolina would have a tournament just like DCC.

The Cherokee Indians will do just about anything and they don’t have to answer to anyone about anything pretty much. It was a hell of a good place back then and it’s even better now. They have I think 3 WSOP circuit events and all the concerts they do. It’s a great area and Hotel and more room than you can imagine for anything.

He wasn’t interested then and told me if I wanted to do one there he would give me good rates on tables and some guidance. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s only over 300 miles from Diamond so it’s an easy drive but it’s still not in their backyard. They’re happy with what they have going on so I guess there’s no need to add more work.

Stopped in last night for the first time in a few years. Just in time to see the end of Thorpe and Gorst and the start of Alex and Skylar. It was 7/6 Alex when I left. The Derby itself will never be the same, as it was when it was at the EW for those who remember it. Or even when it first moved to the new venue. But times change and everything else follows. The casino moving up right outside the tournament room probably spelled doom. It changes the whole vibe…even more. It was nice not having to pay to go upstairs tho. Moving it away from there is far from a bad idea, but to keep its nostalgia it’s gotta stay relatively close.

No chance I’d go to Indiana in the middle of winter and burn PTO instead of somewhere nicer.

Nashville absolutely I would.
Need to contact Diamond and let them know your take. They aren't gonna move based on a few forum dwellers like us but they still outta hear players/fans opinions. Regardless of where they end up people that attend are there for the event only and not as some sort of tourist vacation. I only went once and the only time we left was to hit a liquor store for a jug of bourbon. We had stopped at Walmart before and basically made our room a convenience store.

There a New Casino Opening Feb 12, 2025 in Ownsboro, Ky
You're from Evansville, right? You remember Elliott's Steak House? Best Stromboli's in the world in Evansville.

I used to go to Owensboro a bunch a long time ago. Stayed at the Bob Green Executive Inn. Cool little town. Pretty good restaurants too. Brass Ass Saloon was a fun time!!

Nashville is pretty much a Strait shot down I-65. Opryland hotel would be an amazing venue. Maybe with no casino oversight, the "action" aspect of Derby City would return...

Until DCC busts out in Indiana, it is going nowhere. If it ever busts out, I do not see Diamond starting another one. The only hope is someone else, somewhere else. Say, Buffalo, in NOLA?
