Diamond 2-pocket 1-pocket table?

I was talking to the owner of a local pool room in the Chicago area last night. He is in the process of updated and refurbishing both of his pool rooms.

He told me that he has acquired "1 of 3 Diamond tables made" that have only 2 pockets. The table would be used to play one pocket.

I really think that would make the game much more interesting, with the absence of the other 4 neutral pockets. It would open the game up for a variety of different shots and situations.

Has anyone ever heard of this table, played on one, or have any pictures of one?

It would be neat to see.

Thanks,

Dave

I think it would take away from the game more than it would add to it. Pocketing balls in the neutral pockets is sometimes the most strategic move available. JMO.

Which rooms was he talking about?

Honestly, with the cost of floor space going up everywhere in the city, I'm not sure if the positives would outweigh the negatives but if that's what he wants to try, then by all means give it a shot.

That's kinda what I was thinking. It wouldn't be the same game without the neutral pockets.

Calling RealKingCobra

I think Glen will have some interesting input on this subject.

It would definitely make for some strategic changes.....but the bank would sure be open on that table!

I played on one many years ago. The biggest problem was not being able to get balls back to the spot. Personally I didn't like it.

dang, now I want a table!

I just read the full article. The game to play would not be One Pocket but Corners. With Corners the rack is at the blind end of the table and the balls have to go into the head pockets. Seems like it would be entertaining.

Of course I'm a bit of a sick puppy when it comes to tables anyway. If I were to find myself with a bunch of money one thing I considered trying to have made was a nine foot four pocket Diamond. Two very tight golf style snooker pockets at the foot of the table and two standard Diamond Pro pockets at the head of the table. A "Corner" table might be even more fun.

tap tap...I'd pass on it...

At my age, I probably don't have the time nor patience to "re-learn" One Pocket on a 2 - hole table ...

However, it does spark some interest for me ...

I think it would open the game up to a lot of new shots. Of course it would change the game dramatically. Would be fun.

They had one at the Central Club in downtown Oklahoma City in the 60's. I saw them playing "Corners" on it, and it all just seemed so strange to me. I was still trying to learn how to spell One Pocket at the time. :)

give something new a try

it would definitely not be the same one pocket game that we are used to but that's what is so great about it. it would eliminate shooting a ball in to be spotted, and open up a lot more banks. no more tapping the last ball around the corner pocket; somone's gonna have to move it toward a pocket or leave a risky bank. also allows for easier carom shots if going multiple rails. i wish there was one around here... sounds like tons of fun.

Same here Leave it alone---Smitty

I don't play a lot of one pocket but a table like this doesn't seem to interest me too much. Not only does it get rid of strategically pocketing balls, it also extremely reduces the chance for a scratch.

not that I enjoy scratching
