Diamond Pro-Am Misconceptions

I recently bought a Diamond Pro-Am and had it installed. Please don't get me wrong I believe Diamond makes the finest pool tables on the market. The point of this posting is to reveal some things I did not know until after I had the table that I wish I would have known before.

When I look on the Diamond website I see images of their tables and the routing is always white. I was informed that my table would have the routing but it would be Black due to a problem with the stain bleeding through as I had ordered the table in rosewood finish.

On their website it lists the optional Dymondwood stain samples which if you look at the rosewood sample it does not look near as dark as the actual table will arrive. Because dymondwood is not available the tables are shipped with stained wood which looks more like a Cherry Finish.

They tell you it will be eight weeks to get your table and then it seems due to their lack of installation personnel and trucks You could easily be waiting 12 weeks unless there is a big event happening near you.

As mentioned above Dymondwood is not available so the tables are wood which is not dent, warp, stain, crack,burn resistant. When Dymondwood becomes available again they will sell me Dymondwood rails if I trade in the ones I have for an additional fee I believe about a grand.

I am told that the rails on the diamond tables are wider then other tables so the only cover that will fit on the table is the ones sold by Diamond.

Recently I learned the cushions on a 9' table are Artemis and the 8' and 7' models are shipped with cheaper Diamond Black cushions. Artemis cushions are 100% Gum Rubber. The Diamond black cushions are extruded.

If there is any thing else that is not clear on the website please feel free to share it with me. I have only owned this table a few months. I simply think if your going to go out and order a pro am you should be aware of all these things.
 
fair gripes, but a person should at least find the type of table they are ordering and get to see one in person. ordering from a catalog or internet pictures never give you the exact picture of what you are getting.

the big gripe is that you should get the table when they say it will be delivered and not routinely misrepresent when it is coming to get the order.
 
Their website is pretty bad when it comes to imagines of the tables you're trying to buy. When you're about to invest that much money, you should be very clear what you're getting.

Also, waiting up to 3 months is nuts. No way I'd be able to do that. I would go nuts.
 
A person should be able to expect to be able to choose a model and know all the sizes are the same materials within the same model.

I did go and play on diamond tables in several pool halls I expected to have the same colors delivered as I had seen in the pool halls and on the web that is not what arrived. The web pages should simply more accurately show the finishes and inform the customer of key materials and components. I think it was bad business for them to hide details like that.

Like I said it is a great table I believe it would be far better though if they would have used the same quality of cushions on all table sizes within their pro-am model. This posting was to inform others so they are aware.

Diamond's main table they build and sell are the 7fts by almost 4 to 1 when compared to their 9fts. There is nothing wrong with the Diamond Black cushions what-so-ever as far as playability goes, but the price difference is enough that it don't justify installing them on their main production tables....but, if you ordered a 7ft ProAm and WANTED artemis cushions installed on the rails....you could have had that done, for an up charge in price....all you would have had to do, was request them to be put on. Furthermore, guses what, Diamond has had customers order 9fts who've also requested the Diamond Black cushions instead of Artemis cushions....and Diamond has complied with those customers as well.
 
Glenn, what's the deal with the diamondwood?
It's been quite a while since the factory fire. Is the new supplier almost ready?
I saw on ESPN challenge of champions a brand new diamondwood table was used in the classic rosewood finish. I thought that was a sign they were ready to start producing that table again.

Dymondwood has been being made for quite a while now, problem is, the pieces Diamond needs for building rails is much larger than the moulds that are being used by the manufacturer today....so, waiting on a mould to be built to produce the sizes Diamond needs was the last word I got. And I think I asked Chad in the past about that table you're talking about and he.told me it was a used table cleaned up like new.
 
Diamond Pro-Am misconceptions? That they play better than Gold Crowns is a nice start.

I would not say better, different would be a much better description. I think there are a lot of people who would argue with you about Diamonds playing better than Gold Crowns.


If I was buying a Diamond I think I would rather have the Black Diamond cushions rather than Artemis as most of the Diamonds you play on will have Black Diamonds. I also think proper rail specs are much more important than actual cushion brand.
 
I requested quotes on 4.75" league cut pockets rathan than 4.5"' on a 9ft. I was told it would be $400 more for the bigger pockets? Something about having to recalibrate.

Maybe this would work for you as it did for me . All the rooms around here are 4.75 some even larger. My table ( Diamond ) is 4.5 I do hit balls on it everyday and got very use to it. When I play local here with the bigger pockets everything seems easy. There have been times I thought I missed only to see the object ball roll in.
It was somewhat frustrating at first but now I love the 4.5 pockets. Just my opinion though.

So Dymondwood is being produced again?

That's great news!

Can you give us any insight as to when it might be available for rail material on the Diamond tables?

Can you advise which of these things you did not know about before you paid for your table?

I mean I know the Diamond website can use some work, but if they told you about the colour of the routing and that you can't get Dymondwood now before you ordered, that's then up to you. Did they tell you 8 weeks or 12 weeks when you ordered?
 
I new none of those things prior to paying, I was actually under the impression the cushions were artemis. My table was paid for in late January and setup April 15. I was tols at the time of the order it would be an 8 week lead time.

Again like I said I love my table. I have gotten past all the misconceptions I had. I just wanted others to be aware before they bought one without knowing themselves.
 
Yes I bought a 7' pro-am with procut pockets and simonis 860 cloth

It does not matter though it is a fine table. I will use it to improve my ball control and be able to play on any table. I was not trying to stir the pot or start any debates on here. I was simply wondering if anyone else knew things about the table that they thought should be known prior to purchasing one. I see a perceive a huge difference between the quality of the cushions. When I look at other tables including GC with their superspeed cushions that last about 20 years typically to the diamond blacks with a 7 year warrenty. I noticed others on here that seem to want to put blame on me for not knowing prior to purchase or think it is some sort of joke. It is not a joke or anything to make fun of or place blame on any individual. I wanted to share my thoughts with other potential buyers so they were more prepared prior to paying $5400 or $5600 of their own. I do not have the space for a larger table in my apartment.
