Diamonds should be removed from tables

I removed all of my diamonds. Replaced them with mercury dimes.

Kinda wished I used buffalo nickles instead.

I would bet big big big money that I could make more kick shots with a table that has diamonds then a table without dying... Who wants to bet?

No ones taking that bet,
A bolt of lightning may come from anywhere
The guy from pool hall junkies
Frozen space poop, too many variables

but ... but ... he's an 8-Ball fanatic. And some pretty good 8-Ball is played on tables with no diamonds (Chinese 8-Ball*). So it all makes sense.

[*he probably didn't know that]

I think the diamonds are a very handy thing to have.....
...first as a 'rule of thumb' training and teaching device...
...secondly as a way to remember a layout....even over a phone, you can describe a
leave you had with reasonable precision.

Somewhat like chess...

they're great for beginners and basic aiming and drills, past that useless

if you believe that there is no point in removing them

chinese 8 ball tables are sands diamonds btw

Nuf ced!

If you are going to start changing the actual rules, why not just allow mulligans too?

Nope, the rules work just fine as specified & uniformly used the last few hundred years. The Diamonds Are Required On Any Table Used In a WPA Sanctioned Event / Tournament. And know what? The darn system actually works if you have the mental aptitude to actually learn and properly apply it. Most players just get impatient and shoot before they've verified the math which is pretty simple stuff. And at the worst, you won't pocket the object ball but at least avoid a foul by entirely missing the intended object ball. It may be too heady of a concept for some players and they get by without it. Personally, I want to use every aid the game offers and the tracks of the Diamond System work as long as you use normal roll or make adjustment for application of English In any event, removing the Diamonds isn't an option for pro players but I don't have to be concerned because just like whose-amay wrote, I'm just an amateur but at least I'm a darn good one.....how many pros can make that same claim? Nuf Ced!

WPA Rules Require Diamonds..........It's referred to as "Sights".

Equipment Specifications:
Rule 6. RAIL AND CUSHION

The rail width must be between 4 [10.16 cm] and 7 ½ inches [19.05 cm] including the rubber cushions.
18 sights (or 17 and a name plate) shall be attached flush on the rail cap with:

12 ½ inches [31.75 cm] from sight to sight on a 9-foot regulation table
11 ½ inches [29.20 cm] from sight to sight on a 8-foot regulation table.

The center of each sight should be located 3 11/16 (+ ) inches [93.6625 mm (+ 3.175 mm)] from the nose of the cushion.
The sights may be round[/B] (between 7/16 [11.11 mm] and ½ inch [12.7 mm] in diameter) or diamond-shaped
(between 1 x 7/16 [25.4 x 11.11 mm] and 1 ¼ x 5/8 inch [31.75 x 15.875 mm]).

Any nameplates and score counters should be flush level with rail top. All rail bolts should be thus located that when
properly torqued render a quiet and optimum rebound from any point of the cushion nose of the table.

I don't understand the diamonds system however I do use them , and not knowing them is my fault and it should not be taken away from those who have learned them ,,

Omg one game on the planet doesn't use them therefore any and all tables and players using them are begginers

pool players love condescending for whatever reason, must have table size envy

Regardless of whether they are required or not by the rules is irrelevant to the OP's point - which is totally valid. Personally I'd prefer no diamonds, as you are not allowed to mark the table yourself why should you have it marked already. But they are there - so learn to use them. But "learn to use them like everybody else" is a pretty poor argument for their existence in the first place.
