Diamonds should be removed from tables

Really don't know what model it is, tough table. We are thinking that the radius of the pockets might be wrong never see a rattle go down.

Ironically that is the nature of American Snooker tables. The pocket openings are the same, but the balls are 1/8 bigger than on the 12 ft European tables, and the bend radius on the American 10 footers are bigger, which makes the tables less receptive to pocketing balls. I always felt the Europeans were behind the differences to make Americans feel inferior at snooker.

I'll take the diamon system over any feel/guess any day of the week. You still may not make a good hit or safety/but you will be oh so close. :)

I agree, remove the diamonds from the rails and put them on the cloth so I can see them even better :)

They are just a useful tool. Many sports have "markers" of some type. Why shouldn't folks know where dead center of the rail is ? Gonna save a lot of time as many folks are now going to manually try and figure it out and slow down the game.

I don't want slower :D

I agree with you, RJ.....I'm getting sick and tired of how snooker players slow the game
down to calculate angles....

I wouldn't mind diamonds on a snooker table...I like the look of them....
....and I think they are handy.

On the other hand, it is amusing when a 3-cushion player calculates the shot by the diamonds and then misses it by a diamond because he couldn't subtract 2.7 from 6.3 (hint: not 4.6). As his opponent you don't mind so much then that he took two minutes to try to do the subtraction in his head.

Ok, can't always tell if you are pulling my leg or not :grin-square: Are snooker players "slow" ??

Heck, I'm a little slow with diamonds, without them I'd be almost snail like

No, I like the diamonds, as long as they're your employee, and not your boss.
...tables play different....and snooker rubber plays different even more so.
....so adjustments have to be made.

I remember Allen Gilbert, I admired him very much, shooting his first practise shot out of
the corner going three rails to the other corner of the same short rail......
...he'd say "Hm....quarter diamond short."
I was shopping for two Kim Steels for a room owner once...played the same three cushion
shot....phoned my friend and told him "Uh uh, they play a diamond and a half short."
....mind you, it was a humid spring day in Baltimore, but that's too much variance.

But I must say, that if a player still wants the diamonds visible when he's down over the cue,
he's looking in the wrong places....seeing them standing up is good enough,

It's like playing with training wheels...I've never needed to use them but it's kind of lame to give people a guide.. are you a pro or what? You should be able to do 2 and 3 rails from anywhere without the diamonds.
Diamonds should be removed from tables? Hmmm, how about the legs ???

Here are the two extremes in one video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aIeYootIKo

so the answer is, sometimes. Perhaps Ebdon would speed up with the aid of some diamonds.

Thanks for that! While O'Sullivan pocketed 36 balls, Ebdon pocketed 4 (and then missed the 5th).

I looked up their head-to-head results -- 21-12-1 in favor of O'Sullivan. That's a lot of pain RO has had to sit through. Ebdon even beat RO in a semi-final match at the 1996 World Championship, and then Ebdon went on to lose to Hendry.

On the linked video, they dubbed Ebdon "The Thinker." On the World Snooker site, his nickname is said to be "The Force." We could probably come up with some others.

You can't take them off until you know how they got on.

Sorry, thems the rules.

To the OP:

I am learning, and I'm still not able to shoot bank shots consistently.

You take my diamonds you're gonna pay for the damage to my table. Meanwhile, I'm still using them. Does that make them "training wheels" (stated earlier)? And while we're at it, how about that mechanical bridge. It's a 9 ft friggin table! I play Left or Right handed, but I know when I need the bridge.

It seems that the majority of posters on this forum have grown up playing and mastered pool many years ago - how nice for you. How about some love for people who are not already at master level?

WOW. Night and Day. The slow guy is BRUTAL
Ebdon plays snooker like B. Langer plays golf: GLACIALLY(if that's even a word). RonnieO reminds of Cardinal great Bob Gibson: they see what they need to do and just freakin' do it. Slow, no-rhythm players in any sport totally suck the fun out of watching.

He's doing it for obvious reasons, its a sharking move to slow Ronnie's tempo down n try to piss him off to play overly aggressive which results in unforce errors.

That bald ass time bandit is a disgrace and he knows he cant beat Ronnie in straight out shooting so he reaorts to cheap tactics like feathering 12 times n getting up to chalk his cue.

He once foul a complaint to the snooker council citing Ronnie for disrespect when ronnie played a whole frame left handed.

Ronnie retort by saying he will beat ebdon playing the whole set left handed in a rematch n proceeded to still win him in that epic rematch.

That complaint was obviously dropped !

I like this idea. There are tables with no diamonds, but it's not standard. If it became standard, a great practice tool would be a set of stick-on diamonds/markers to use as practice. Eventually you no longer need them and can peel them off.

Just curious, as good as RonnieO plays, he seems to never miss much, and everyone posts video's of him "running out", OK, I'm sure that is not the proper snooker term, but you know what I'm saying.

How does he take it when he actually does miss ?? I've yet to see anyone post a video of him missing ???
