Hopefully, by the time you read this you are well and back home. Take good care and God bless.

Wow i havent opened this forum in a long time, I know he posts here often and I read lots of Dicks posts. Great cue maker and person. I shit when I saw this thread. I sure hope he recovers from what ever it is that ails him. I hope his family is ok too. Man I hate news like this, Life is precious and we should treat it as such. I pray he will recover. Chris bartrum has told me about him and we spoke a couple times. I know him through his posts more than anything-he is among the best.

Sincerly

I finally got to talk to Dickie tonight for a little bit. They have moved him to the VA Hospital now. For those who'd like to send him a card you can do so at;

Dick Neighbors
c/o V.A. Medical Center
3200 Vine Street
Cincinnati, Ohio 45220
Room 517

He's still under renal shutdown and in a lot of pain. He has ruptured disks in his back which since I'm dealing with that myself and I can tell you that it can be very painful! They also think that he's experiencing a serious case of gout along with his diabetes and breathing problems (He's been on oxygen 24/7 for quite some time probably as a result of the finish work he's done) and he was severely dehydrated when he was admitted to the hospital which was probably the cause of his renal failure. They're hoping that his kidneys will regain normal functions after he's been well hydrated for a period of time. I have an appointment at the VA myself tomorrow and will stop by and see him and try to cheer him up a bit. I asked him if he needed anything and offered to bring him a laptop and some magazines but he declined. He doesn't feel like reading or getting on a computer at this time. I could tell that he was in a lot of pain because Dickie was never one to take anything for pain and was waiting for a nurse to come into his room so he could ask for something when we spoke on the phone. Everyone please keep him in your prayers because he's not out of the woods yet. I'll try to keep everyone apprised of his condition.

Thanks Sherm for the update, he's in our prayers and thoughts, but it's nice to get an idea as to how he's doing and an address for him. Please let him know that we're all pulling for him.
Dave

Sherm,
When you see Dick next, please tell him my regards and that I am thinking of him.It certainly can not be easy for him at this stage.

Keep us up dated Sherm. I'd love to send Dick a note but with the Postal workers being on strike again, chances are Dick will be in the shop making cues for about 2 years before he gets the card.

I had an appointment at the VA today so I stopped in to see Dickie while I was over there. He looked a little rough, he's been through a lot lately. His kidneys still haven't resumed function and it's been about 10 days since he's had a bowel movement. That's enough to make anyone miserable. He said they gave him a laxative today and now he's afraid to fart. His back is giving him a lot of trouble and pain as well as the gout in his feet. They've told him he'll have to go from the hospital to a Veterans nursing home for convalescence and rehab before going home which pissed him off. He'd prefer to go to his brothers house but his brother lost both of his hands many years ago and will probably not be a lot of help in the way of taking care of Dickie while he recuperates. He still has a pretty good fight ahead of him but Dickie is a tough old bird and my money is on him eventually getting back on his feet and back to work. He's at his happiest when he's building cue and modifying equipment to do so. Let's all keep him in our prayers!

I just ran across this post. Thanks for the updates. Sounds like he's all to hell poor guy. Praying for a speedy recovery. I'm sure he is not too thrilled with being there, and as miserable as can be. I know I would be wanting to get out ASAP.

My Mom had to do Rehab earlier this year after being hospitalized, and she wasn't too happy at first about going to a nursing home, but after a few days I think She actually began to like Being waited on hand and foot, and watching all the TV she wanted. Of coarse eventually She had to come home, but she has been carrying on with the exercises they taught her while in there, and hasn't smoked since. First time in My life I can remember her not smoking for this long, even after previous stays in the hospital after heart attacks she never quit, but so far so good this time, so in some ways It had a positive effect, just a shame that she put her body through so much before finally sticking with It.. Hopefully It will be a positive thing in some way for Dick as well, and He will go home feeling somewhat rejuvenated. Praying that His kidneys will start functioning properly, because that can be a very serious issue.

Hope He gets well soon, Cause I'm not through picking his brain yet. I still have a few tricks to learn that an old dog like him could teach Me. Like I'm not an old dog these days Myself :p

Please send My regards If anyone visits or speaks to Him again.

Greg
