I recently worked out a deal with a fellow AZer to buy his cue for a round a hundred bucks, nothing fancy, just a plain ol production cue. I checked his iTrader and it was ZERO. I checked his posts and he only had 9 posts. Well a few months back I got screwed out of 280 smackers from a guy on fleabay so Im a little leary. I told the guy I would take it but he would have to send the cue before I sent the money. I know that is a risk also, but I have bought several things on here, and when I was selling one of my Schons, I even had people volunteering to send me their cues for inspection for a trade. I was not rude to the guy, but evidently he took serious offense to my offer. He proceeded to bash me and tell me how much he didnt trust me, which I found ironic. I know its only a hundred bucks, but Im not gonna donate to the unknown, and escrow would take away any equity in the cue, Id have been lucky to make 20 bucks on it if I did sell it. What would you have done?

I didnt really need the cue, just a reasonable price for a cue to have. I run into people fairly often that need a cheap cue, and this one fit the bill. If the guy had a couple iTrader, I would have sent the money.

Did you explain to this other fellow *why* you requested that he send the cue first?

If someone made such a demand to me, without any sort of reason why, I'd be wary as well.

Sounds to me like both of you are both being cautious.
 
I think if you just explain how you got bit recently for $280, he will be less upset and might even decide to trust you.

I know where he's coming from, I recently had a deal where the seller wanted to wait for a check to clear before sending me the item... it was for $25. I was kind of offended at the time but I came to realize it was nothing personal. I'd just let him know where you're coming from so he knows you're not just being ornery.
 
I know im new here to but , how do you expect the guy to get a good refrence is no one is willing to give him a chance ? I would be in the same boat as this guy, as im new here and i have no i trader refrences but my e-bay is 100% with 127 positives and i my self would never rip anyone off , i know with todays world you never really know who you are doing buisness with. People got to start somewhere. I guess sometimes you have to take a chance , but sometimes it is just not worth it if you are dealing with a high dollar cue or something. Just my opinion <<

Yes, I explained that because of no iTrader and such a low post count, that I didnt feel good about sending the cash first. I told him to check my itrader and ask about me. I have dealt with some very reputable people on here, and I have recieved no complaints. Its not like Im asking him to send me a southwest or anything.

I see your point, however, if I have some good iTrader and he does not, the trust should be thrown at me, him sending me the cue is far less risk than me sending him the cash first. Its the way the system works. As for ebay, thats great, but doesnt really apply here. I donated 280 to a guy from ebay that had 100% positive feedback. I won the paypal claim, but recovered 5.66 and he has disappeared. Sorry, kind of got off topic. I think if I was totally new and wanted to sell something here, and someone with 200 posts and 5 positive itrader zero negative and a little green rep wanted me to send the cue first, I would consider all the facts and go mail it. I understand where you are coming from though, different people see things different ways.

I'm in a similar situation to his -- I'm new to AZB, I have no iTrader yet, and around the same number of posts. That said, I've already purchased a cue from one member here who I expect to leave a positive iTrader any day now, and I'm working on a couple of sales with other members. I have a perfect 100% record with ebay, I refer everyone to that, and I believe it says enough about my character.

I don't think I'd actually be offended if someone requested this, but I'd pass on their offer. Here's why:

As a buyer, if you send him the money and the cue never shows up, you can file a dispute with PayPal. They almost always side with the buyer, so they'll take your money back from him and refund you. As a seller, though, if he ships the cue and you never pay him, he has nothing to fall back on, he's just screwed. We all pay for goods all the time on the assumption that they'll be shipped when the payment is completed, so we're used to that and it's the standard. It pretty much never works the other way around unless you have an established relationship with someone. I know I'm personally pretty comfortable sending money to someone I don't know, especially though PayPal, but I think it'd take a pretty unique set of circumstances for me to send out goods before they're paid for. The only ones I can think of are an established level of trust with someone who's proven themselves in past transactions, or dealing with a businessperson or company who has a solid record of doing the right thing with many people before me.

Remember, every story you've read about a messed up deal where somebody got screwed on AZB? He's probably read them, too, and doesn't know who you are, either. And just like any other marketplace, you only hear about the bad deals, but for every one of them, there are a couple hundred where both people are totally satisfied. Happy people just don't feel the need to shout it from the rooftops like you do when you get the shaft.

good points. He offered no other references, and paypal can only rufund whats in someones paypal account, and that money only stays there for a few days before they can move it, just like happened to me. I see what you are saying though, maybe I handled it wrong.

The above link is a perfect example of why referencing your 100% positive ebay resume means nothing here on AZ.

The person in this link has been banned on this site over 20 times under different user id's, and he has 100% positive on ebay.
So referencing ebay means nothing on AZ. And there are a couple of other users who have been banned for screwing people here, and have been coming back under new id's. And are probably back under new id's as we type.

Any one of you new guys could be another AKA of these users, including snipershot.

And these banned members who keep coming back have ruined it for all the legit new guys here. And the new guys here have to just accept that it will take time for them to build a good reputation here regardless of having a couple of positive itrader points or not.
So good luck and to all the legit newbies here, and have a little patience and flexability.

Did I overreact?

I sold a cue for over 10k to a buyer with oustanding credentials. I sent the cue to him without any payment. I told him if he liked it he could send me a cashiers check. He liked it and sent me a cashiers check.

I have a fairly good I-Trader and I bought a cue nearing a 1,000 and the seller to me told me he would send me the cue and if I liked it I could then pay him. I liked it and I paid him.

On the other hand if I don't know you and you have no I-Trader then you will send me the check (if buyer) or send me the cue (seller) first! It all depends who you are dealing with. If the new Azer doesn't understand this then I will pass of the deal.

I guess it all comes down to the buyer, cause if you want something bad enough you will take the chance, as the poster said it wasn't the point of it not being alot of money, but it was the fact of him getting burnt before, which i understand. Every situation is different . Iv'e done buisness with a # of a-z members just not on the site but alot of them also do buisness on e-bay, n run on-line stores such as koinkid and others, it comes dwn to a few bad apples spoiled it for everyone , if i want something from someone i would not hesitate to send a cue to someone with a good -i trader it would be something you have to do to get a good rep. I guess , if the guy really thought the cue was worth the money he would have sent it , maybe it was something wrong who knows , there will be other deals don't sweat it ,<<<<<
 
I certainly do not agree with that guy bashing you. That is a bit silly and uncalled for. The thing is anyone could make a secondary account and try to rip you off. So to protect yourself you either use escrow or have him send the stick before payment.

IMO escrow would have solved this problem but $100 is a bit low to use with that service. So asking him to send the stick in a act of good faith isn't a problem IMO.

First time I bought a stick when I first joined this site I knew I was going to be sending the money before he would send the stick. I accepted that. Should have been the same but the other way around for you since he was selling a stick.

Craig, I had a feeling you would stop by, lol! I know it may not make sense, but it is easier for me to trust brian. He had a good rep, ruined it, and is now trying to make it right. That is altogether different than just some random guy with no rep. Kind of like bad credit is better than no credit. Its not that I think escrow is overpriced, but I think spending 20% for the cost of the cue on escrow might be a bit silly. I enjoy our banter Craig, its nice to have a good old disagreement without having someone get way too pizzed and lose it, lol. Ill be back later, gonna go shoot some pool for about 8-10 hours, lol.
