Difference in Chalk brands, and connoisseurs of chalk

Yep

I like the master blue the best. The others I have tried either don't stay on the tip and cause me to miscue more often, or they are really fine and powdery and cause my tip to glaze over prematurely. The master blue is a perfect happy medium for me. The master tan is good also, and the master green works halfway decent in a pinch. I've tried as many kinds as I could get my hands on, and IMO the silver cup blue was the worst, even worse than the wal-mart stuff.

I use Masters tan, keeps my shafts looking clean (or cleaner). I will play with Master blue or green (green being my preference).

SILVER CUP is so bad, I wouldnt use or even steal it from the poolhall.

> In 1994,Nick Varner gave me a 12-pack sample of PBTA-logoed National Tournament Chalk, made by the same company that used to make the really crappy stuff in the red wrapper. I eventually called the PBTA office and got Don Mackey's wife to send me 2 gross. I still have about 40-50 pieces of it left. It's just a little softer than the blue Master,so it covers a little better, and doesn't seems to get as wet at times when it's humid. People see it and think it's some cheap shit, and set it off to the side,or throw it away. That's ok,what I'm using is better than your's,n00bs.

The closest stuff I've seen to it since is made by the same company, and I see it all the time with APA or Camel wrappers. Tommy D.

If I was going with 'production' a chalk , it would be Masters.

Otherwise it's only old growth , hand packed and color tinted custom chalk for me.

Nothing plays better than a finely tuned cube of an artisan crafted custom , IMO.

;)

Where do you get the fancy stuff from?

Master,Triangle, and silver cup are all good chalks.Master being the best and definitely the pro's choice.

National tournament is probably the worst. It does not stick to the tip at all which does not allow one to get maximum spin on the cueball. As a matter of fact, you will see more miscues with that stuff than any other chalk(even the Walmart brand!)

The difference between the chalk's out there is real similar to the difference in the weight of the cueballs available. If you play with the heavy bar cueball, you cut off 50% of the english you will need to run out with.Thats my humble opinion on the matter.Good topic!

I trried the expensive stuff Longoni?, it was ok but made my hands sticky and real dirty fast, it worked good but I didnt like how my hands felt, I had to wash them eveery 10 minutes. So I stopped using it.
........
All other chalk sucks...

Fatboy, your supposed to put it on the little leather thing on the end of the stick, not your hands. :)

Well let's think about this for a moment

I'm not the most disciplined about chalking when I'm into a nice run, but I just can't remember my last miscue. And if you saw my stroke you'd think it's a miscue waiting to happen.

 :D .....just kiddin  :p

Actually, I put out new Master (Blue) chalk just about every morning at our place and WTF is it that we always turn up having a used piece of crap broken up cube of chalk that is hardly recognizable by the end of the next morning!? ;)

Always chalk up (even if it's with my chalk) before your next shot! :)

The Master Blue we use seems to not hold the chalk well. It could be from age though, as I've noticed the older it got the less it would hold (Silver Cup did the same to us).

I think me and my brother just bought Triangle and are going to try it.

Like sex.....

Blue Diamond chalk is like sex........you don't know what your missing until you try it. Then.....you can never go back!

I was at a Viking 10-ball Tourny in ATL (full of champs) and Shannon says...

Can we get some chalk for this "Big Event"?

TD: Yea but all i can get you is some Silver Cup...

SD: I'd rather hock a lugee on the tip of my cue than use that sh!t

Crowd and Other Pros bust out laughing!

Blue Masters is definitely the way to go.

I know I'll hear many opinions to the contrary, but I like Balabushka best. It seems drier, harder and less "creamy" than Masters or Triangle. It takes a little more care to chalk, suits "wipers" better than "drillers". But I do swear that it tends to work itself into the leather better than anything else I've tried. I'm not the most disciplined about chalking when I'm into a nice run, but I just can't remember my last miscue. And if you saw my stroke you'd think it's a miscue waiting to happen.
Bill

You should try Brunswick chalk, it will suit you.

I bought a gross of Master 3-4 years ago because it works best on a quality leather tip, IMHO. But,,,,,,,,from experience,,,,,,,,,,playing off the wall in bars where you have to use a cue with a slip-on tip, nothing works better than, Triangle.

I'm trying the fancy/schmancy Longoni stuff but I suspect I'll end up back with the tried and true Masters Blue.

Yeah, Shannon really showed a lot of his cl ASS at that moment.

Especially since he runs a tour and now knows how hard it is to get sponsors for events.

Silver Cup Chalk has been sponsoring the Viking Tour since 1994. Silver Cup Chalks sponsorship has been responsible for adding over $75,000 in prize money just to Viking Tour events. Not to mention the ESPN and many more events they have supported.

Thank you to Steve and Gary Hobby of Silver Cup Chalk.

Silver Cup Chalk isnt bad I use it all the time its as good as triangle, but it isnt yellow I like that yellow wraper, easy to keep tract of.

that walley world Chalk, that stuff is terrible, I ran out and used some of that stuff and Im telling you I hate it, it doesnt stick at all, and is the extreme end of the spectrum compared to masters. that stuff is like limestone. it should be called MISS CUE INC.

Brunswick chalk is Blue Master chalk. Go ask your local Brunswick dealer.

No way! I like the Blue Master chalk, but hate the Brunswick chalk. Brunswick is too hard, a lot harder than Master chalk.

Sang Lee

I am not a connoisseur of chalk I am curious if there really is much difference between Master, Silver Cup, Triangle, National, and Balabushka brand chalk.

I have even used in a pinch Wal-Mart Chinese Chalk that seem to work O.K. for 6 pieces for $.96.

Getting ready to buy some Chalk, and thinking of switching to the Silver Cup Spruce Green, from the Master Lighter shade of Green as it is the closet to the Green Cloth I most play on.

Has anyone tried Sang Lee chalk?
