i just wanted to open a new forum and say i love the game of pool. just the other night i was discussing with my wife about how im 24 and most of my friends are between the ages of 40 and 64. I guess its because i spend more time in a pool hall than in the bars. i dont know what it is about this sport that i love so much, i just know its my passion. ive been playing for about 8 yrs and dont consider myself a worldbeater, but ill play anybody. this game just doesnt seem to get old to me. i know some players who just sit there waiting at the bar scoping the place out looking for a money game. it seems to me that they feel they can run racks so now they no longer need to practice. i can run some racks, but it never gets old. i love the practice. i honestly dont know what i would do if pool rooms were suddenly i was not able to play anymore. i play about 25 hours per week. anytime im sitting at home or at my job, i constantly think about playing and how great it would be if i were rich so i could just play pool all day every day. i dont know i just wanted to get that out there to see if there were others like myself. do i have a problem?

Are they really your friends?! They want YO MONEY!

If they are just at the pool hall all the time and so are you, then I wouldn't say they are friends in the traditional sense.

I played a lotta pool in the 20s (yes:wink:) and there are folks who come and go over the years. The definition of friend will too.

well, when i say friends, i dont mean the players who play for money. im talking about the guys who come in and we play for the fun of it. we have great conversations and alot of laughs. im not talking about the other group of players. i actually have friends who we show up at relatively the same times and we play for hours for the fun of it. we do races for the fun. i consider them friends. sometimes we eat lunch together and what not.

You don't hafta be rich to play pool everyday. You just gotta be retired and have your own table at home (like me ).

Come over to the house sometimes, you can play for free! I live in Mansfield. Of course, the table won't be as good as the ones at Rusty's, but the beer will be cold, and the restroom will be clean, and NO table time! I can't give you as good a game as you'd like, but you will probably have a good time.

Addiction

I simpathize with you for I too consider myself to be an addict of the cue sports. I've been playing since I was ten ( now 55) when I first saw the movie 'The Hustler'. I guess that movie got alot of us older guys started in the game. I didn't start playing serious pool until 11 years ago when I bought my first 9 ft Brunswick. You can't tear me away from home now! My wife says that my table is my mistress. I tell her that my mistress has six mouths and they never talk back, so how can I not love her? Yes my cue is my syringe and the table is my heroin. I go through the day at work checking my stats on line, playing pool on the computer and thinking of the leagues I play in. I find myself practicing my stroke sometimes in my sleep...my pool stroke that is, get your minds out of the gutter. Yes I am a junkie for the game of pool but thats a lot better than being addicted to drugs or alcahol. Shoot straight little brother and don't let those guys take all your money.

Addiction ?!

Yes,you do have a problem.

Buy two custom cues and call me in the morning...
..or you could just mark the pocket

You played pool in the 1920's? Wow I had no idea you were that old.

good for you gramps!!

haha there have been some pretty interesting responses so far. i doubt i will ever be cured of my illness. oh and im not going to worry about players taking my money. its a rare occassion i gamble, i just love playing for fun.

I too wish I was rich so I could play pool everyday. I envy the pro pool players who get to do for a living. I know most pros don't make tons of money, but making the same amount I make now to play pool everyday would be just fine with me.

Playing everyday is an obsession and unless your going to turn pro i would concentrate on school first. Most pool players are broke or rich one day and broke the next. its a hard life playing for money. motel rooms sleeping in car not having food or gas money.
Put your obsession son to something els where you can make money and then one day you can have your own table and play all day if you want..

i also do some school, but im in the military so school, work, and pool are all easily juggled. im doing some school so that ill be able to open my own pool room in the future. thats my real dream, and it will happen. it will be a billiards hall and not a sports bar. oh and i dont gamble very much. its a very very rare occassion when i do, so no worries about me not having any money. i like my money so im not going to risk the chance to just give it away to someone else unless its bills.
