Or do you shoot just as well on most any table? I like and shoot good on Diamond tables. I shoot on a Gold Crown some time but it does not shoot as good as the Diamond in my opinion.

For me, the tables dont matter as much as the cloth condition and the balls. IF the balls are clean and the cloth runs true I generally play the same once I get used to the table speed.
I am wondering what the differences are for you with Diamond and Gold Crowns. Is it the way the table rolls? rails? pockets?

Worse by far. I have not played on the new full size diamonds with the corrected rails though. I hear they play like normal tables. The diamond bar box, to me, is trash. Having to bank everything a pocket long and aim every kick with poorly designed rails in mind is just stupid. The pockets play great but if I owned a diamond I would have the rails rebuilt to industry standards and replace the rubbers wIth anything else too. I know people who love them and I'd happily own a new 9 footer but I have no use for the diamond bar boxes.
I play worse on the diamond. I'm not a pure shotmaker and I really need that extra inch of pocket to make tough shots.
I also tend to rely on cheating pockets a lot. Because I don't like tough cuts, I often just let myself fall too straight on balls, then slam it and cheat the pocket to get position. That style of play is not gonna work on a diamond.

Felt billiards here in Colorado has both Diamonds and Gold Crowns and I play just as well on either one. On the diamonds you just have to respect the fact that cuts shots down the rail have to be hit a little cleaner or they rattle. I have no preferance.
i have a diamond barbox. i love it but you learn to roll balls and shoot much softer on the diamond. it improves my shot making with the tighter pockets but it really screws my stroke up when i play on a GC or any other barbox in my leagues. i'm always coming up short on my next shot. but, i'd rather have the learning curve going from a Diamond to another than vice versa. if you haven't played on a Diamond and you go to a tournament that has them, you're f*&ked.
I have the opposite strategy playing on diamonds vs valleys.
Since the diamond's rails, and usually cloth too, are so much faster than a valley's, I feel I can get much straighter in on shots and still move the cue ball around the table.
On Valleys the corner pockets are such a joke that I play almost all shots into them and avoid the sides as much as I can.
I will say that I don't bank near as well on a Diamond unless I hit about 10 banks in a row warming up or play a game of banks to warm up.
I play pool better on POOL TABLES, rather than dining tables or kitchen tables. What?...no mention of what Buddy does? LOL

I think Diamonds play different,not better or worse,just different just like a South West plays different from a Tim Scruggs or a Schon cue.

Same, after you adjust your approach. Just like playing on different golf courses in my opinion. Some have wide fairways, some narrow. Some with more sand, some with more deep rough, some fast greens, some slow greens. More trees, less trees. Water hazards, no or few water hazards. Some well maintained, some goat ranches. You get the point. Adaptation is key...Be prepared to overcome (or exploit) any nuances in the differences between tables. :smile:

I play the best on which ever table I'm playing the most on at the time.
Naturally I play my best on Gold Crowns and Valleys.
But if I'm playing allot on the diamonds I play the just ias good.
The biggest thing with any table is how you adjust to the speed and the rails. If you don't adjust quickly it's tough to win.

I can modify any Diamond to play like the new ones being built today, if wanted
Is it just the rubber that throws the geometry off on these diamond bar boxes?
I am currently trying a new strategy for these tables when I'm forced to play on them. I'm going to use a cue with a softer tip so I don't get punished by the spring loaded end rails as much anymore. I do love the diamond pockets and how they don't leave black plastic streaks on my cue when I'm shooting over a pocket. When I move I will be selling my GC and buying something different when I get out to AZ. I may not have room for a 9 footer there so I'll probably be getting an 8. A diamond table that has been fixed sounds like a good plan to me.
A big X2 on this. Why make a table with rails that bounce way more than any other table commonly found in homes and rooms around the country? I wonder if the bar box championships are played on them as is or if they have been fixed prior to the event.
