Do you wipe your tip off before putting it in case?

I keep a little piece of paper towel in my case, but since I don't remember to wipe it every time, it's probably useless anyway.

Yes. I used to use my shoe. Now I use the cuff of my jeans, washes out no problem.

Yes, I wipe the chalk off my tip before putting the shaft in the case. It's just part of taking proper care of my equipment.

I usually either use a napkin, paper towel, or the inside of my lower pant leg. I avoid using the carpet, out of respect for the room owner.

I have a small rag (2x3" or ??) in the top of my case... usually old T shirt material. I change it every week or so. I've got a bunch of them cut out and ready for use to clean the tip or the shaft or ????.

Every time without fail. Paper Towel. Although it seems customary to use the carpet in some places I just won't do that.

Paper towel, napkin, rag

Paper towel, napkin, cotton rag, I use whatever is handy. I'm not bashful about giving my shaft and tip a quick wipe with a very lightly dampened paper towel either. I find that after washing my hands the second or third paper towel I dry my hands on is perfect, just a hint of dampness that will catch dust but not wet the tip or shaft.

I will use the inside of my shirt tail or jeans if nothing else is available. It seems a bit lacking in class to use the pool room's carpet or even worse the joint between cushion and table bed as I have seen done.

Wipe'n my Tip

Absolutely, positively yes. Every time. I'm proud of my sticks and like the look of a nice clean Q. :) Many times I've had people compliment me on my Qs and they wouldn't have done that if they were filthy.

I wipe it off on the carpet and if there is no carpet, I use a serviette.

The carpet is dirty and greasy, what with dirty shoes, beer, cigarette smoke, and all that other gunk drifting down onto it. Wouldn't this put some of that crapola on your tip? And wouldn't this make the tip slicker?

Plus, if it ain't your carpet, you're polluting someone else's property and chalk damages carpet, big time.

Yea, I use the carpet if the place has one, towel if it doesn't. keeps the chalk out of my case and off the shaft.

There's a good reason for that besides courtesy to the room owner. You never know what's on the carpet. Residue from spilled drinks, grease from various sources (usually food) and whatever people stepped in on their way to play that night. Lots of things that don't belong on your tip.

Definitely yes! Main reason being I have to put my shafts in the case tips down, so unless I wipe the chalk every time I finish playing there would have been some nice amount of blue dust inside my case.
I have a piece of used Simonis cloth for that purpose.

Pride....

No....don't see the point.

Pride of ownership is the reason I do it.;) I try to keep my shaft clean and smooth as best I can. Chalk in the case sleeve/slot simply adds more chalk to the shaft.

I am building tip blocks for my room just for this purpose. :)

Good post......many people, myself included, never thought about the chalk on the carpet as a bad thing. When you are the one buying the carpet it becomes REAL.

Yes, just started doing it when I got a new case.I use my palm, most places I play, you have to wash your hands after.

A good point. How many of the people who casually wipe their tip on the pool room carpet would do the same thing when playing on someone's home table? How would they react if someone casually did the same to their carpet in their home? Some people genuinely do it without thought, a monkey see, monkey do thing. They see others do it so it must be OK. Others are simply slobs, it is just a pool hall and it is a commercial business, "they have to put up with whatever I want to do, I am a paying customer!" Folks like that are who give pool halls a bad name.

I really liked the post mentioning just what people are jamming their tips into when they clean them on the carpet too, that should be food for thought for some.

If nothing else, it can prevent problems like this. (I'm not saying this is the reason for that particular dispute, but it remains a distinct possibility.)

I try to get a napkin and wipe my tips off before putting them in. If I can't get a napkin or paper towel, I'll bounce the tip on the pool table.

I try to refrain from wiping it off on the carpet.

No way am I ever going to wipe off my tip on anybody's carpet. I've been looking for some kind of tip cleaner, since I just got a new case. At the drug store I found a little flat circular pill container with a hinged lid. I cut a little disc of scotchbrite pad to fit. I figure it will both clean and lightly scuff the leather. Haven't tried it yet. I'll find out on league night if my $1.49 was well spent.
