For that amount of coin you can do no better than Leon Sly. His point & veneer work is top shelf. Plus he's old....err I mean old school.

I would add Paul Sumrall (Sonofthunder) to that list. He makes a great playing cue; I have three of them that fit your specs.

www.indyq.com has a lot of "old school" cues by some of the best cue makers living.

For example he currently has 17 SouthWest cues for sale. Cues by Billy Webb, Mike Stacey, Jerry Olivier, Chris Nitti, etc....

How does a wood pin fit your description of old school? Best hitting cues in captivity (imo) are made by Chuck Starkey. See Desi2960 here on azb.

Great cues from a old master

Check out Richard Black Custom Cues at Blackcues.com. Richard has made me a few great cues with the peramiters you mentioned plus the length, weight, taper and balance I requested. I don't know how long its taking to get one of his cues at present, but its worth the wait.

IMHO Jim Ingram is the best in that price range. Truly beautiful classic looking cues that play as well as anything out there.

I would suggest Ernie Martinez (720)297-7441 (Denver area). He will not take a deposit, you pay when it's done and you will be more than happy w/the results.

Im gonna have to say Jim Ingram also. He is old, and old school. He is also a very nice person to deal with, and fits right in your price range. also, his wait time is very reasonable.

You cannot get more bang for your buck than you can from Paul Dayton. I can't say enough good about the guy and his cues. A 4 veneer 4 point cue with ringwork, great woods, and magnificent shafts for $1200-$1500 depending on inlays. About 4-6 mos but check with the cue maker. His taper is perfectionnnnnnnnnnnnn. Thank me later...Tom

As far as my choice for Old errrr I mean old school. I like my Sherm. He won't jump on here and self promote but he can usually see well enough still if ya PM him. Been a few HoF players that have shot his arrows. I think he posts under cuesmith but I am on my mobile so checking isn't an option.

old school ?

Very few cuemakers have been at this as long as John Robinson . He's been producing cues since the early 60s , and is known throughout the trade as a top craftsman .

Leon Sly is doing top shelf work. His prices are definately going to rise. So now is the time to get one of Leon's cues. 410-827-4966
