Does anyone here really Play Pool?

Very rare also, just if im playing so bad im starting to hate pool and switching to pyramid to cool the brain))) but i dont have my own pyramid stick, so i have to play with club cue :)

You obviously speak English. Is English spoken very much there. I can speak some Russian but I do not write it.

I always thought Pool was supposed to be a social activity.
We talk a lot about Pool but does anyone here ever get together to play?

Do you really play pool? When? What games? How often?

In what way do you find challenges in the game? Do you practice?

Do you play tournaments?

Inquiring minds really want to know!

I don't get with anyone to play pool anymore.
I have my own table at my place. I practice five times a week with a specific goal in mind each time I play.
I consider myself an outlier in that I prefer (and am able) practicing by myself. I feel I'm disciplined enough to practice at one-hour intervals.
Any longer however, and I get lazy.

I play "micro-games," which amount to specific sitauations of games.
As one example, I bunch up about six or seven balls and use a break ball to run
them out; leaving another break ball so as to continue.

I attend tournaments when and where I can.
For those who go to the pool hall, I admire you. I could do that when I was younger, but no more.
However, I feel that if you want to really improve and save money in the long-run, get your own table.

No Latin roots?
Tsar,Tzar, Csar, Czar.....comes from the Latin word Caesar.
Because of the Cyrillic alphabet, it's just harder to see....

I believe Russian is rooted in German, which is heavily influenced by Latin.

Personally, I use a lot of English, especially when I play pool.

I've played 3 hours already today and am going to play 2 more hours now. Then again from 4 to 5:30 PM. So yes I play a little pool most days, and I'm 73. Johnnyt

I play everyday, but only go out to tournaments infrequently.

Yep, any language have tons of words taken from other languages, but if we're talking about roots, yr absolutely wrong, slavic languages have no latin roots.

Met a good guy...mattb....through a cue deal. We have been playing weekly for the last 3-4 years. We play one pocket, 8 ball, 9 ball, and, bank pool. We play 7-8 hrs Friday evenings and are both on the same APA team on Sundays. He is a great guy and I enjoy the time we get to hang out.

Heck ya!

I retired in July and in October I used the winnings from an Anchorage tournament to buy a nice used 9' Rebco table dressed in the Simonis 860 HR cloth and Aramith balls and had Pat Diviney make me up a jump/break and 2 identical players. Except for few days I play several hours a week. I have a few guys over every week for 3 to 4 hours of 8 and 9 Ball matches with me. The only league here is the bar leagues and I don't join it as they have silly home brewed rules and crumby tables. On Friday nights a local dive with 2 crumby bar box tables tries to have a 9 Ball tournament but there is little interest. The one pool hall closed a couple years ago due to lack of interest and very poor management. So twice a year I will drive 150 miles to Anchorage and play at the Palace pool hall, as they put on a state and Fur Rondy tournament. lots of players and lots of fun. I will be shooting 4 hours a day for a month to get ready for it. They have nice 9' Diamond tables. I wish we had a decent pool hall with a weekly tournament and a decent league. Don't see it happening though. But, I will keep playing as it is fun.

Ah, but the Slavic languages have German roots, heavily influenced by Latin, which was
influenced by Greek, which was influenced by Hebrew.

I'm going to do some research, my opinion could be wrong.

This is my situation. My 9' table has easily paid for itself. I cringe everytime I go out on the town to bang balls around. Some places around here charge as much as 14 dollars per hour to use their equipment.

Played, and won, a 8 ball tournament yesterday. Rarely play for fun, either tournaments or gambling. Back hurts too much just to play for fun anymore.

It's like putting together a jigsaw puzzle - the picture is now more colorful

I've been more involved in pool more than I ever have because teaching plays a vital role. Finally I've reached a point that teaching and playing compliment one another. This is much more difficult to do than I would have imagined, now I know why.

After playing in well over 100 tournaments last year my game is coming back piece by piece by piece. It's like putting together a jigsaw puzzle sometimes, and the picture keeps getting clearer and more colorful.

Today I love the game of pocket billiards and have a fresh, new perspective on it's future. Changes don't happen over-night, although I AM getting signs that there's awesome developments finally happening...... of course, only time will tell.

How lucky we are to have such an incredible Schoolroom.

I play pool about 4 days out of the week on average and play for about 4 hours at a time. Sometimes more sometimes less depending on the day. I also play in a 14.1 league that I have come to enjoy very much. We have about 40 players in our league and they are all pretty good. I also practice snooker about once or twice a week for a couple hours and try to get a game once a week.

I guess I do both. I play league every week and yes we try to be competitive, but it's also social. Call it my night out so to speak. I wouldn't play in this league if I didn't enjoy the fellowship and sportsmanship of my teammates and most everyone in the league.

But I also play tournaments and match up. In these endeavors it's pretty much all about the pool. I also enjoy practice at home alone. It's meditative and relaxing.

Not sure if this answers your question but I suppose I'm all of the above...if this is even one of the answers you were looking for.

DogsPlayingPool,
Yes it was. I have a Friday/Sunday Game that Ive been playing for awhile. From time to time I will play One Pocket and I go to another room from time to time to work on my game so people will let me be. I find my alone time very relaxing as you mention. I think we all have our regular lives and our pool lives and keep them separate.

I love to play. I mostly play by myself though because pool has become more of an escape for me in the past 5 years or so. It's a chance to get away from all the things that stress me out and lose myself in the game. I miss practicing and competing but I'm just not in a position to put in the time anymore like I used to.

I still get out every once in a while though. I played a tourney a couple of months ago and cruised straight through the field. Won the hotseat match 7-0 and the finals 7-5. Played solid the whole tourney. Times like that really make me want to get back out there... I miss it.

Right On!

I love seeing a comment like this. You sound super confident and still are happy working on "your game." That is so awesome. I really value my alone time with pool and one of these days I will have fixed up my garage into a den and I will have my own table. Until then the times I get to work on my game by myself are some of the best times that I have in pool. What really makes it worthwhile is when I get to play long enough with someone that I hit my stroke. Then I know the practice time is paying off. Its complete validation. Nice post.
