Does Each Mosconi Team have a Back up?

What happens if someone gets sick, has a car wreak, or some other last minute problem and can't play? Does each team have a back up that isn't named publicly? Just a thought. $hit happens. Johnnyt

I would imagine Matchroom would just name an additional player to the team. If it's really short notice then perhaps the captain can play.

As long as they change it to 7' tables I'm in:grin:. Johnnyt

For you, JT? From the side of the table, they'll slide-out the middle slate, and push the two remaining ends of the table together to make a smaller table, just like those quick-adjusting dining room tables. :D

-Sean <-- always wondered what those two handles on each side were for on Mosconi Cup tables; now he knows -- those are JT handles! :D

This may answer your question: Mika played last year with the flu.

Yeah, but what if one of the players get caught at the airport with illegal substances in the suitcase?:grin-square: (Another thread here gave me that idea..)

Then you for sure need a backup, or bail money. Good thought Johnny

Knowing Matchroom, I suspect that in the case of a US player being too ill to play Nick V would stand in. In the case of a European I believe Daryl Peach would get the call.

Perhaps though as I will be there, was born in England and am now a US Citizen (supporting the US Team) they wouldn't need but one stand by....................Me:o

I don't think they would have trouble finding a sub if something did happen. There aren't too many pool players that would pass up a guaranteed $10K payday.

If something happens to a US player the day of the event how will a new player get to the UK on time. Johnnyt

Nick Varner is the Captain of the team, and he just finished 17-24th in the U.S. Open. He is still a cool man with a cue in his hand.

No such problem for the European squad. There are several very good players available in the London area if need be. Daryl Peach, Chris Melling and even Steve Davis to name three.

The Mosconi cup is held over 4 days. Just hold off that player's matches for a day and call in Earl Strickland.
