Does this annoy you?

Playing 8-ball for funsies and he keeps safe-blipping the cue ball behind his numerous object balls still on the table when there are shots he could take? Yeah, it's part of the game but when the only thing at stake is your ego? He's been playing probably five times longer than me and has four extra shafts in his cue case. I waxed him two to one.

Should I just look at this as a chance to practice kick and masse' shots?

On the other hand I'd have a lot of respect for a two way miss/safe.

I don't pocket my balls if the table is not run-able. I just keep playing safe and re-positioning my balls until I can for sure run out.

TC:

Worry about what you do when its your turn to shoot and not what you opponent is doing. You are out of line if you have a problem with his/her shot selection.

So wait , what was the annoying part? Winning?

Can't help you there, I kinda like that part.

But if your playing someone for 'Fun' , who you don't find it to be 'Fun' playing and don't know what to do abouth that....then well, I'm confused there again.

Stop failing your runouts or at least expect to be punished for failing.

Humm don’t want to sound insulting but uh why are you giving up the table when you can be safed so easily so often? Sounds like you made some mistakes against a player ½ your speed and he (rightly so) knew this and tried to get some games out of you by out maneuvering you because he recognized that he couldn’t out shoot you.

What he said.

I guess, to some extent, it's annoying to me because I get the feeling my time is better spent practicing by myself rather than attempting difficult banks and kicks so often.

Then go play with yourself. Don't come back whining when good players start doing the same thing to you and you have no idea how to respond or can't make those difficult banks and kicks. To add, it's one thing to make the hit, it's another to make the shot and an entirely different thing to know how to make the attempt without being reckless.

Yeah, but you only won the national open team event, what would you know. Oh, that's right, you won the national open team event - undefeated through it, to boot! :p:D

I get made fun of for snookering my nephews & mother when we play & for short-racking people when playing for funsies. I say it's part of the game & I need to practice those aspects as much as anything else. The guy you were playing was just hyper-timid...passing on shots to play safe.

It bothers me when guys with over inflated opinions of their ability keep trying to finish games they can't (generally on the easier suit) and then expect not to be punished.

I love a good a$$ kicking. In either direction. I can't stand safeties. I also can't do a safety to save my life. AND I get annoyed at people that think I did it on purpose:grin:

 Someone who didn't call me a braggart, imply I was a dope for playing someone way below my level, imply I have a low skill level if someone has a chance to play a safe on me, imply that I have some kind of personal problem, imply that I think I'm a way better player than I am, etc.

In fact you actually answered the question, "Does this annoy you", rather than pouring your own extraneous personal issues (mostly ego-oriented) into the thread for unknown reasons.

Yeah, I don't have an issue with this if there's money on the table. But if I'm just playing for nothing against someone above my level I take my shots and take the beating if I have to. So what? It tells me where I am and what I have to do. If I'm hiding the cue ball every chance I get then I don't get any useful information. So- it annoys me.

WOW!!

You read her response entirely different from me:rolleyes:

Sure you weren't replying to another post????????

Uh, so now you need to . . .

sorry, nevermind, didn't mean to interrupt your mindmeld . . .

I try to play guys who are strong enough to run out if there's a reasonable chance to do it. If they don't do it, that's good news. Getting back to the table means I have a chance, even if it's just 1%. If they choose to run out on you, and have the actual skill to do so... you're sunk. You just plain lost.

Why complain when given free chances (even small chances) to take control again and win an already-lost game?

Maybe he does it specifically to annoy you because you were a stronger player so he felt he needed to get in your head to stand a chance. It was more about winning future games than the current game.

It annoys me too. I find you have to ignore a lot of people on this site - they are the death of pool.

Better players will often use funsies games for practicing or experimenting with certain shots. Sounds like he was working on safeties. Bet him 5 bucks
a game and see if you still WAX him 2 to 1. He isn't going to show you top speed por nada. The guys that are better than me that I bet with I don't play funsies with. Because I know they won't give me their full attention.
It sounds like your opponent has been able to separate his ego from his
game and is playing funsies just for that, fun. While you are trying to satisfy
your ego by waxing him 2 to 1. imho

What the Hell Is "Funsies"? I don't care if it's my crippled old Granny, no mercy.

I know a guy In Angels City known as Willie "S". The "S" stands for Snooker. Old guy, 70 plus. Can't see long shots anymore. He even plays with a piece of black tape on his ferrule so he can kind of see it. He's still chipping away at it on the Pool table. I have ton's of respespect for him, pool wise.

He's adapted his game, as his phyisal capabilities have changed over the years. Word has it, he used to be "HELL". Drop a Snooker on you when you lest expect it.

All you can do is tap your cue on the floor.

does it also annoy you when your opponent intentionally fouls to tie up your balls? It's part of the game lol, deal with it

I'm less annoyed if it's a difficult to execute safety. The ones that annoy me are where he blips it behind his nearest ball leaving me with a two-rail kick.

I'm not sure if some of the posters here are the death of pool but I can tell they're really good players. Why else would they be telling me I'm f'd up for being annoyed by something? It almost sounds like they're annoyed and they don't even have a two-rail kick.
