Does this mean the USOpen is Open?

I agree. Skill level is skill level. Has nothing to do with man or woman. A B+ woman is the same as a B+ man... and so on. The only grey area is in the pro world but its the same for men vs men. Pro is a HUUUGE level and there are many different levels. They can all hold their ground with each other, but some people are just better.

Well, it all doesn't matter much anyway. In spite of what men want and don't want for themselves, the WPBA has often not allowed its members to participate in non-WPBA sanctioned events ("men's" events). At least the WPBA recognizes how it can hurt their product and improve the men's.

Do you honestly think the women don't want their own tour? If there was only one tour open to everyone the women would be broke by the end of the year.

Um, they're broke right now! Except for a small handful, most women do not make money on tour. This isn't a bash, either. I just want to point out you're looking at some of the most devoted pool players out there. They travel all over the world, play in all sorts of events and most lose money at the end of the day and they do this to promote OUR sport. Why restrict them simply because of this?

It says US OPEN not WOMENS US OPEN quit crying. Women playing against the men is the best thing that can happen to pool. Are you all so short sighted that you can't see this? Typical pool player all you think about is right now, not how much money this could bring in the future. This shouldn't be about money anyway, it should be about the best players playing each other regardless of their gender.

I don't think neil was crying or even complaining. He brings up a valid point here. If the women have their own US OPEN to play in then why should they be allowed to play in the mens US OPEN too. Would they allow a male player to play in the women's US OPEN. I think not. There are plenty of other tournaments that the women can play in but the women have their own US OPEN and they should play in that. At the end of the month when bills are due I think pool is about money just like most thing's in this world. In a perfect world it would be nice if everyone did what they loved and were able to live off of it but that is not the case and pool players got to eat too. Maybe they should just put all the money together from both US OPEN's and just have 1 US OPEN and let the men and women play for it all. I am sure the women would want nothing to do with that.

Has anyone here ever played in any of these events? I'm just curious if you guys are actual players or just spectators looking to cause a ruckus.

Then they would be broker. And you can't be delusional enough to think that they play pool, travel, and lose money just to "promote the sport"... they travel to play in tournaments to win money.

The women can't compete with the men in the long run... that's just how it is, and for them not to have their own tours and tournaments would be unfair to them.

from the story:
"The U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships has opened the field to give all the great players from America and all over the world the opportunity to play in this year?s U.S. Open."

So does this mean it's being opened to women as well as men, or does this just mean that all the great players are men?

from what i understand they were actually going to make the us open "open" to everyone. but some players complained i guess that it would be embaressing to be beat by a woman.

i still have to say that i don't think even the best women players would make it to the top ten. i don't know why but i just haven't seen many women (all i see is on tv though) string racks together like i've seen the men do in these tournaments

So you think they shouldn't be allowed to play because they can't compete? They need to be protected from going "broker"? I don't think I know what you're point is.

I stick by my original statement. Put up the money and play. That's it. I don't care if you're a world champion, a D player, a woman or an 8 year old child. Every living breathing person on this planet should be entitled to try, so long as it's "open" and they have $600.

Oh, and in reference to promoting the sport versus making money - Yes, they play because they love it. If they played simply for money, the tour would be 6 deep. Do you know any of these players? Have you talked to any of them that are on the tour but not top ranked? They know they're not paying the bills with pool money.

The U.S. Open has traditionally barred women from playing. Of course now there are many women capable of beating good men players. Scary huh!

If Barry would like to increase his gate by 20-25%, he would allow women to play. If it were me, they would be in like Flynn!
I'd like to see Jasmin playing Efren in the Finals for all the marbles! But that's just me. No offense to any chauvinists out there. :D

Karen Corr. She finished 5th in the Joss Northeast Turning Stone event only last year. I mean, it's not the US Open but a lot of the same guys that go to the US Open also play in this event.

All of you woman haters say women can't compete against men overall, thats why they have their own tour, just like the juniors, amatures, & so on. If the men are supposed to be the best of the best then a women that can compete at this level should be able to play in these events.

Crying? I don't care either way and I was just pointing out that they have their own US Open also. To me the more players (regardless of sex, nationality or any other discerning value) the better the tournament is, I think the current situation with World Championships, point standings, invitations, etc. etc. is in mass disarray as it is.

I just hope eventually we come to some sort of compromise and actually work together with people instead of battling left and right over who gets what.

Probably only Babe Zaharias could have beaten him at golf. Too bad they never got together.

400 players

That would mean that 128 would get paid and the other 272 would be mostly men and women that could afford $600 to say they played in the US Open.

Does it matter if the 272 players are male or female?

i actually really would like to see women play in the us open. i knew a guy that used to play in san diego and he didn't play as well as the top 10-30ish women in the world and he got to go play.
