Dominiak Cues?

I purchased a 99.00 linen wrap cue, and was very impressed. The shaft was nice wood and was 4oz the forearm was cored, and the play was very crisp with a nice feel.....your choice of black or brown phenolic, 1/2 dozen linen wraps, the only draw back IMO was the wrap section was around 10 inches....I prefer a wrap in the 12-13 inch range.......overall you can't go wrong for 99.00 delivered.....order 1 you wont be sorry!!!
I have to agree with Snowmon. I have hit the curly maple, and felt that it was a very "solid" hit. Bill is really nice to deal with also. I told him I felt the shaft was a little thicker than I wanted, and he offered to adjust the taper free of charge. The craftsmanship in the cue is also very noticeable. Very elegantly simple. I have a "players" brand cue that cost about the same, and the hit is strikingly different. So much so that it is taking some getting used to. The players cue has much more flex and feedback. No where near as solid. I would not hesitate to try one.
I did order one on thursday and talked with him on the phone for awhile. The thing that I was worried about was quality. The cue only 99 shipped to me was mind blowing because usaully you get what you pay for but i thought for 99 bones why not. What is the taper like on the shaft, I play with the predator 314 shaft on a r. benson cue with also has a 3-8/10 pin. So after I get it sounds like I may have to adjust the taper on the shaft.

I have never hit a predator shaft, bu tmy understanding is that they have a very thin taper. The taper on my shaft is in between that of a house cue, and my much thinner "players" brand cue. It is not bad, just personal preference. I think youwill be very happy with the cue.

I received mine on Monday. I don't have a lot of experience with different cues but the quality seems excellent. I ordered mine with a 12.75 tip, the same size as the 314 or the OB-1, with the thought that I would get used to that size if I wanted to upgrade the shaft later. I'll play with the Dominiak shaft for now though. Someone else will know more about this than I do, but the taper seems to be a 3 step conical design, which could be the reason a lot of people have described the hit as "stiff" or "solid".macaframa said:

Well I had a chance to play with my Dominiak today and I have to say I am very pleased. It didn't take me long to adjust to the difference between this cue and my inexpensive graphite, which surprised me. I know that saying a cue has a "solid" hit is an overused and totally subjective term, but honestly that is really the only way I can describe it. It feels solid. Made the graphite feel flimsy in comparison.
sounds to me like a really great deal. i might look into that laminated cue that was mentioned earlier "poor mans predator".

Price aside, it's well made with excellent fit and finish. The materials used are top notch. The hit is solid and it certainly plays well for me.sky.. said:

I got to play with a Dominiak last night. The full story is in my "Big thank you to Donovan" thread but I thought I'd add a few words here.
The cue I used was the $99 wrapless curly maple version. It looks really nice for such a "plain" cue, the pattern in the butt is eye catching without being over the top. As for playing, well I only played 4 games of 8 ball but it felt like I'd been using the cue forever! A much more solid hit than my El Cheapo. I honestly felt that if I could've shaped the tip to my liking I'd have had the CB dancing for me!
I hope I'm not speaking too soon but it looks like I may well be ordering one in the next day or so. I am sorely tempted to go for one of the "Kandy" ones though, they just look so different to me, & that really appeals to me.
If I do get one I will update this to give my verdict!
