Good for you Bernie! I'm wondering why all those "jealous" pool players on this board have not slammed you this time!

Jealous? Someone else here needs a grip on reality.

And in BD

I, previously, had had a 3 year sub to Billiards Digest, but let it lapse after it was due. Now it has been a few years since I had it, but recently have been getting promotional type information from BD trying to get me to subscribe again.

Yesterday, I was surprised to find a December issue of BD in my mailbox. I said, wait a minute, I didn't sign up for BD again, then I took it home, and looked through it. A big interview article about the IPT with Kevin Trudeau is in the issue. It recapped all the events, or lack of events, that have taken place since Reno, not much different than what has been discussed on this board.

In the end, it was the ole 33% will be paid, but no real positive information that the players will receive 100% of their winnings. He tried to explain and downplay the past mistakes, and said those things are past, and lets move forward with the tour. Do you think he will still be spouting this stuff when they lower his head into the guillotine? ... lol

Maybe because Bernie ain't even close to a recreational pool player much less a pro dufuss!

Well, I can confirm Bernie's relaying the fact that Kaplan was in attendance at the IPT in Vegas. He also hung out with us one evening during the event. :D

Being in a casino environment, a group of us, to include Kaplan, pooled our monies together and took a ride on the craps table. The Craps Committee consisted of Allen Hopkins, a famous poker player named "Mikey," Kaplan from the cigar magazine, Pots and Pans dressed like Charlie Chaplin, a chauffeur from the Bellagio, and Keith McCready.

While the group of them were slinging dice, I decided to take a load off my feet and SIT DOWN. I must have walked 10-plus miles every single day at the Venetian that week. I played the penny slots. I put in a dollar and soon jacked it up to about 66 bucks. Meanwhile, the committee's run at the dice table sadly ended in less than 10 minutes, with The Venetian pocketing about 3 dimes. :o

You should have seen the looks the committee received when traversing through the casino game room at The Venetian, especially with Pots and Pans in tow and then Kaplan with pen and paper in hand, following the pack and taking copious notes.

Kaplan did interview Keith, et al., one evening. During the IPT event, a prospective game of stakes was in the rumor mill between Ike Runnels, backed by an unknown entity, and Keith, backed by Ricky B., for a large chunk of change. It was supposed to take place at high noon one day. Keith, Ike, and Kaplan showed up, but the backers were nowhere to be seen. :D

We spoke to Kaplan several times in Vegas by cell phone and in person, and he was, indeed, working on an article for the cigar magazine. He did speak to MANY, MANY, MANY players. I am now anxious to see the finished result in December.

Glad to hear Brandon is back in Northern Virginia. Does that mean that the weekly $20-entry-fee Thursday tournaments in Sterling is a go now?

We may go to a tournament this weekend, depends on a few things at the homefront, work, bills, dog-sitter.

Keith has recently become an Internet Poker Cowboy. I have to fight to get me some time on my Internet computer because he really enjoys this new hobby immensely. LOL :D

Here's a pic I took a few weeks ago of Keith's best friend and the best friend's wife, Christie, from Tennessee who visited us for a spell. Today, Internet poker rules at the M&M Ranch in D.C.! :p

Sadly, it is difficult -- for me at least -- to get enthusiastic about traveling the tournament trail these days, for a variety of reasons. Truth be told, there isn't much to look forward to on American soil for a so-called "professional player." I am not knocking any upcoming event, but the expenses to go are tremendous. Today, again, a pool player has to bring their best game to the table and/or must get lucky to either win, place, or show in order to break even.

Jam,
Your thoughts above are the feelings of most of us. It's why were on the sidelines and its the current state of pool here in the states. Its frikin tough out there with the nut. That lifestyle is seemingly only for the young and restless or the phenoms with temptation the biggest obstacle.
I always chose to work and play and found time to raise a family too. I think about the nut in Manila, the way Jay described it, sounded like the 50's and 60's here in the states. The rest of the world may play better than the Americans now, but we have the greatest legacy and the most history and the greatest gamblers/players of all time, that speaks for itself.

Keith's best friend looks like he could be a great pool player if he committed himself to it.
Did the baby come with them? I'm sure it was an enjoyable visit. Christie is a nice girl and she is fun to be around. I imagine you all had a good time.
On a side note, Are you guys planning to make it to DCC this year. I think Keith's friend said he was going to try to make it up to check it out.
Good luck to you both.

Bernie knows a writer from Cigar Aficionado like he knows movie directors, every professional pool player alive, and the location of Jimmy Hoffa's remains.

Thanks for the heads up, Bernie. Looking forward to reading the article.

On the evidence of his ability on a pool table and the content of his contributions to this website there is good reason to believe that Bernie has neither the intelligence nor the physical coordination necessary to find his own substantial rear end with a flashlight and a large mirror, let alone enter into any meaningful dialogue with a professional engaged in any sport or vocation. The very notion of him saying anything remotely of value in a magazine interview on any subject appears absurd:rolleyes:

The present circumstances seem to be that the majority of forum users would rather be sewn up inside a dead horse with Jimmy Hoffa's rotting remains than suffer any more of Bernie's imbecilic dross:)
