Don't Want Anyone To Know They Play BB

Many on here say league players don't watch pros play...even on a BB. A lot of members on here say they hate the BB, calling them toys for kids and bangers. If no one plays on them and no one watches them, can someone tell me why they are out selling 9' tables by a large amount? Why is there over 1000 viewers on the stream watching BB? Why are there 200-300 PPV buyers paying to watch BB pool. Me thinks there are many on here that own or play on BB's and just won't admit it. Johnnyt

I only play on them cuz I have to. I prefer 9 footers but thats all you find in all the bars I play APA league in. Most owners don't want to sacrifice space and expense with a larger table. I prefer to watch the pros on 9 or 10 footers because it requires more skill to play better on them.

If this fact is true you are probably missing out on the glaringly obvious answer to this... most people dont have the space to accommodate a 9footer. On top of that barboxes are considerably cheaper.

With a barbox you need a room that is 17ft x 13.5ft for no obstructions.

With a 9ft table you need a room that is 19ft x 14.5ft for no obstuctions.

That is considerably larger. And based on my own experience, I have an 8footer at home because that was the biggest thing I could fit in my basement and I still have some bad spots.

Edit to add: I prefer the 9 footer. I dont mind the box too much, but would never want it to be my main practice table.

Want to play some on a BB?

In a TAR interview SVB said his favorite game is BB 8-ball.

Now that I think of it....I've never see Efren play on a BB. I think he would be the absolute best BB player because of his CB control.

I've only played on BBs a handful of times. I enjoyed playing on a Diamond BB at Best Billiards in Las Vegas. Valleys in bars with shag carpet cloth -- not so much.

Most of the tables around here, including my own, are 9'. I know that's not the case in most areas, so I guess I'll count myself lucky. I think I would enjoy BB 8-ball, but haven't played it much and when I have, it's been on old, beat-up Valley tables. BB 9/10-ball, one pocket, or 14.1 seems a bit silly to me, but I'd rather play pool on anything than no pool at all, so I can understand why people do it.

They fit better in the home. I would personally rather play on a 9 footer any day, but I don't think there's anything wrong with someone wanting to play on a barbox.

I think the answer to your first question is simply because that is what most bar owners and a % of private homes have because of space limitations. If you're referring to last weeks cast #'s on Friday I think it was the only pool streamed. As to the 200-300 watching pov instead of the NVC on Saturday I think its just die hard fans watching their fav player mixed with support from ppl that just want to support pov. The NVC had a constant 1k viewers once it was streaming. A 9' is just better imho. I personally don't see a need to play on a novelty table.

You can fit close to 4 barboxes in an area large enough for two nine footers.
How many coin op 9 footers are readily available for bars and restaurants?
Bar tables generally are easier to play on and attract players unfamiliar with the game.
Bar tables generate more profits for the owner.
Why are there more viewers for bar table games?
Because, most of the US pool population plays on bar tables. Players want to watch how the pros play on the same tables they play on.

No offense, Johnny, but was it really necessary for this thread? I think we all think you knew the answers already.

A bar box???

Never heard of such a thing.

BD <----- shhhhhh...don't tell anyone I played on one once. I don't want JT to find out.

Around where I live, there are really no bar boxes to be played on, it is all 9' tables, so I don't have a lot of experience on them

Said the champ!;). I could not resist.

And I shall therefore profess my love for BB. ;);):)

Diamond BBs...

Diamond BBs have at least made BB pool a little enjoyable. Valleys play WAY too easy...

Prior to playing on diamond bar boxes I went to my buddy's league night and we played some games on the valley there. After I put a three pack on him, we switched to alternating break.

Every single one of the 12-15 games we played were a BNR.

To contrast that, While practicing at the recent USBTC, I had a 3 pack and a 4 pack in ten games, so while it may not be much more difficult to play on a diamond BB, it is at least more enjoyable.

I have a Diamond Pro Am 7 footer. I love it, plays great. BB are popular here, that's where the tournaments are played around these parts
