I'll admit I don't follow the politics of all this, so I would like to ask if there is someone in the know who can explain why this event is not sanctioned.

Also, if it is a prize payout issue, does anyone know the required numbers vs what is offered?

Lastly, anyone have info on streaming? Who? how much? quality?

My understanding is the basic problem is with the added money. The WPA requires a minimum of $75K added for any event that would be a rankings event. Because any 14.1 WC would be a ranking event the added money must meet this minimum.

In the recent thread in which DP announced the tournament, they did not mention how much was added, but it most likely is less than $75K.

Ouch! I thought the WPA had lowered the amount of money to be sanctioned.

I don't blame them for not wanting to be sanctioned by the WPA for 75 large.

BTW, they have raised, not lowered, the added money requirement in the last few years.

I really do not think you will see a stream of this event.

Charlie cannot get somebody to pay him enough i guess.

All the other questions doesn't matter. As long as Charlie gets his pockets full, it is all good for him.

With pro pool sinking into a never-ending abyss in the United States, the *raising* of the monies added seems unbelievable.

If the WPA recognizes that there is, indeed, a problem with people traveling to attend pool events on an international scale -- not just in the States -- why on earth would they raise the amount? This $75,000 seems like a deterrent more than an attraction.

Just like the BCA looking out for the interests of its industry members, what is the WPA looking out for? Is it still professional pool? I hope so. If it ain't, then what do they have to gain by raising the sanctioning amount of monies added if it results in less events for professional pool as a whole?

Everybody claims the BCA cannot help pro pool because the economy is bad.

Industry helping industry while the poor pro player looks on the ground for a few leftover crumbs.

If there aren't any other "candidates" for a sanctioned world event, wouldn't the sanction the best one possible? Isn't something better than nothing?

Overall JAM, it has lowered. For a World Championship, they used to require $100k added.

I'm not knowledgeable nor eloquent enough to speak to the reasons for not sanctioning the "best" event available, but iirc it was discussed by some last year.

Also, there may be more to it than just the added money requirement. For example, perhaps DP does not want to pay the sanctioning fee. I don't know that this is true and the point is moot since they aren't adding $75K anyway. All I'm saying is there could be more to it. I just know that at it's core the tournament doesn't qualify for a WC based on the added money requirement.

But wasn't it $50K not long ago? How much was it when DP had a WC in 2006? Wasn't that event sanctioned? In 2006 they actually called it a WC, I'm looking at the DVD.
