Dream cue

You sir have no idea what a cuebuilder is. Bash the mans timetable but to say he isnt a premier cuebuilder IS the stupidest thing ever posted on AZ. You knew you would get this response, so there it is
Jason

No, you have no clue. This is a common knowledge for those in the know.

I have had probably 50 cues that I have had commissioned by cuemakers. Time table is one thing, but quoting a price and then "holding a cue hostage" for a higher price than quoted is another. MANY, MANY buyers of cues have told me this.

Be happy you know so little. I know it all too well.

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

So you think I'm new to cues? Lmao. Like I said, his cues are not the issue - they are among the top 5 in the world. If you have a problem with the man start your OWN F!>&÷%@ THREAD.....Oh that's right, you have before. This thread has nothing to do with that so get your @%% out of it.

I didn't say you were new to cues. I talk with lots of folks in APA leagues that know alot about Meucci cues. You might be one of them.

Apparently, you know little about Showman and his antics. And if you think he is one of the top 5 cuemakers out there, you sure as hell, dont know much about cues.

His peers would agree with me.

Oh well, best of rolls to you still,

Ken

I would probably choose a wrap-less 6 point cue with BEM forearm, Ebony points, vibrant veneers, Cocobola handle with an Ebony butt and nice ring work, a stainless joint, and short threaded long pilot joint screw. (not sure if thats considered a quick release) I am not real big on inlays, I like simpler cues. If I was offered 2 cues it would probably be identical except for veneer colors.

You must be pretending.....nobody could be this dense:thumbup:

The ebony six-point Scruggs I bought in 1994 and sold in 2001. Think I sent that cue to Seattle via eBay.

Why can't we all get along?

I had 4 of these blanks, sent them all to Barry

If i had 100 i would send them to Barry

I went fancy,but truth be told,I wasn't looking for a player

let the other guys build their own, they are nice and you
would probably be better off

just my opinion

I like co op cues if both cue makers are in agreement
i have done a few
when gus blanks are in other cues aside from Balabushka
they don't mean much in value

ie Palmer and a few others I have seen
Showman has made some pretty cues, this is not why I would follow
my path,a Searing with bushka points would be a kinda compromise
I thought people thought his points were the best

i don't know

i would go back 50 years and give george and extra hundred and say make it fancy with rings and such instead of my plain ebony stick with a leather wrap. still dead ass straight.

Dream cues

I want the glass case first .
Make it a glass vault , I want mine to be solid gold and I like a fat butt.

I am not rich. Any dream cue would be worth a house or a car would be put away and not used .....................

I would get more personal enjoyment out of a plain jane cue with the wildest wood grian ever seen . and something that was more playable then droped dead work of art .

Lets say you could have a top old school builder (think Szam, Searing, Showman) build a cue with a Gus Szamboti blank. Would you have a player(think hoppe 4 point 4 veneer), or a fancy( propeller, peacock, silver, heavily inlayed etc.) What would you have built? What if you could have 2 cues built?
Thanks for your answers
Jason

I would want Barry to convert the blank into a 4P4V Hoppe player. I would not allow anybody to cut into a Gus blank any more than I would have someone inlay into an older Gus cue.

By "cut into" im assuming you mean inlay?...So you wouldn't even let Barry embellish the prong with some inlay work either? I'm also assuming Jason is talking about a blank in the raw and unturned..

And you would be correct about the unturned blank:thumbup:

I would choose 1 Searing and 1 Szamboti in classic Titlist design. I would probably have Ebony in them, wrapless, nice ring work, and I would choose my own veneer colors, something a little more vibrant than original Titlist colors. I would also prefer piloted joints. Not a lot of inlays though. Too many or too intricate of inlays do not sit right with me, it looks like an after thought, I would like the cues to look nice based on woods and colors used, not all the fancy crap that can be added.

You wouldn't be able to choose the veneer colors because you'd be using forearm blanks that were already put together made by Gus long ago, thats the question that the OP suggested... Im guessing that wouldnt change your style of cue though and shouldnt if thats what you like.

Yeah I guess I did not catch the Szam blank stipulation, Im a little slow (a lot!!!)
Anyhoo I stand by my cue makers who would finish them and I stand by my design. I just like cues more on the simpler side that play well. I dont buy cues to collect or resell, only to shoot with them and I regularly use all of the cues I have so far.

You are correct that I meant inlay.

I googled "embellish" and got "make (something) more attractive by the addition of decorative details or features". I don't think a Gus forearm can be made more attractive with inlays.

I agree that Gus's forearms are beautiful on their own. I'm glad you like them plain. For most, they couldn't tell a Gus forearm from many other makers forearms though so to me inlays only make it nicer IF done by the right maker..Gus, Barry, Dennis, Pete..

This would just be a black, maple, black, maple but to me at least it looks better with the inlays AND the dots up top!

A Gina and a black boar. Or just a black boar and have them make it as fancy as they can.

I would have thought the same. But over the time I owned one of Gus’ cues, I was surprised how often it drew attention from other players in the pool rooms. Even people who know nothing about high end cues would slowly take notice and comment how nice the cue looked. Three times, people tried to take the cue from my hand, once successfully. It got to where I could not take the cue to a pool room where I did not know everybody there. One time in my local pool room, a friend walked over to my table and said that I could never hide the cue because from across the room he could tell it was a Szamboti.

I saw your cue when it was posted recently and was impressed as I am with all of the Szambotis’ work. Of course, I enjoy seeing Gus’ inlay work, particularly peacocks, arrowheads, and propellers. For any cuemaker, I don’t like dots or arrowheads at the end of points. After the trouble a cuemaker takes to perfect their points, I don’t want anything to distract from the effort.

I have seen inlayed cues on the same base as my Gus (not mine any longer). They are incredibly beautiful. But even though I like them, I would not have anybody, including Barry, do inlay work on an existing cue. For the same reason, I would not have him inlay a NOS unturned blank from Gus. I would let its beauty to stand on its own.
