Dreaming about pool helped your game?

Dreams were and still are always considered a strange phenomenon and many scientifics have studied the dreams we have while in R.E.M. sleep and their significations.

I'm sure most of us have dreamed about playing pool at one point or another.

Have you ever had a pool dream that seemed so real that when you woke up, you felt you learned something in that dream and it improved your game a noticeable notch?

I would like to hear some stories. I had a strange dream recently myself and although I haven't had the chance to go play since that dream...I feel different about pool and how I'm gonna perform..like something clicked.

Maybe it didn't and I'm just imagining things but it looked so real.

While i didn't dream about pool last night I did have a strange dream about going swimming. I asked this girl from the toddlers and tiaras, Mackenzie, ( my wife was watching the show in bed) to put my phone and ipod on the dock where it would stay dry. She took them and dunked them into the water and screamed "I don't have to do what you say"! I grabbed my ipod and try to shake all the water off of it and then looked at the screen and the screen said "Your Ipod has been attacked by water or the Canadians!"

Not sure what all that meant and i am in no way racists twords Canadians!

But back to the topic at hand, I did once dream about a crazy safety shot and when I woke up I went right to my pool table and practiced it over and over. Finally one day at league the opportunity came up to use it in a game and it worked like a charm. Later after the match my buddy asked me how I came up with that shot. I just said he wouldn't believe me if I told him.

Opuim den, I bet.

Not dreaming, but very accurate, as real as possible visualization does.

The brain can not tell the difference between whats real and whats not. This is why seem dreams feel real.

I do this when I can not play. I get all relaxed and in a quite zone, and visualize me playing pool and doing shots. Mediation if you will.

FWIW, Bruce Lee wrote the Tao of Jeet Kune Do while he was flat on his back for 6 months. He could not do in real life, but only in his mind.

i never remember my dreams but can you imagine the trouble you'd get into if you were dreaming about pool during an INCEPTION? if things don't go your way everyone in the poolhall will try to kick your ass!!

No...but weekly trips to the local opium den sure do.

Hahahaha.

I dream of many things (Genie) but can't remember any significant pool dreams.
Altho, I do believe there is one gentleman that slept on a pool table and dreampt. Look where he is now.

I was taking that stop smoking drug, can't remember what the name is.
One of the precautions was that it may cause weird dreams.

The first night on it, I was being chased by little Mexican ghosts in a barn.
The little Mexican ghosts were just heads with greased back hair, pencil thin Pepe Le Pew mustaches with leather jackets over their heads.

After the first night, I would take my nightly pill and think to myself, "Let the cartoons begin".

There are research papers on respectable scientific journals with the real data that show that dreaming of something actually helps you improve at it.

Apparently this was the case with Buddy Hall. In "A Mind for Pool", Cappelle writes that Buddy was so obsessed with pool, and he was dreaming every night about it. In one of his dreams, he realized he knew how to shoot any given shot, and shooting it in a different way would be just plain stupid.

He woke up and dominated the pool world the next 4 years.

Somehow I don't feel interpelled to laugh at your swimming story but thanks for trying...

I think I know why we flutter our eyes during deep sleep now. I'd tell you but you will think I'm a crazy monkey.

Dreams are very important. Keep dreaming because they are your truest passions--------------------------JOY.

I don't know about dreaming, but visualization is a key part of high performance in all sports. One thing that works for me is to watch videos of world-class players and I envision that it is me that is doing the shooting. I feel that it keeps me sharp when I can't be at the table. Alex v Shane race to 100 is the nuts for me in this department.

There is a gentleman on this site who is a hypnotherepist, and he put together a CD/DVD focused on pool. I own it and tried it one time, but I don't remember if it was any good or not, because I fell asleep . . . :o

When I was playing every day, I had many dreams of shots and actually would be playing in my sleep.
Some of them actually worked when I tried them.
I used to have vivid dreams about inventions when I was young , but I always forgot some critical piece of information the next day.
My wife bought me a notebook and pen to put next to the bed and when i woke up I could write down all my ideas.
A couple of days later I had this fantastic idea while dreaming, woke up, wrote it all down in dim light coming from the bathroom down the hall.
The next morning I woke up all excited and when I went to read the notes , they were in Martian.

Lol. They'll be here to pick the most delicious humans first. Or is it the good guys.

I dream about anything I'm involved in and that includes pool. I don't actually solve my problems, but instead I take away a new resolve and confidence that I can accomplish my next goal. My dreams reassure my doubting mind that I can measure up to the task. I awake and know I can do whatever comes my way. Not like Superman, because I'm not him. But with the best effort I can muster.

Best,
Mike

I once had a dream i where I made a sick set-up trick shot. The next day, I went to the poolhall, set it up, and shot it in perfectly the first try. Ive probably tried the damn shot about a hundred times since then and cant make it work anymore lol
