We always need good speed control drills to improve our position play....SPF=randyg
scott, where are you so i can get your "mother" drills... one day i am going to have to find out!
One of my favs, and its easy, at first then gets tough. Arrange all 15 balls in center of table, big circle, all balls clear to go. Take cue ball in hand and start shooting balls anywhere you like. Never take the cue to a rail. First 10 balls are easy for most folks, then position gets tougher. You are moving the cue in small places. Secret is to start throwing balls with english so you stay close to center of table.
Hello! Wondering if someone can help... I have been shooting pretty well but my cue ball control is still not where I think it should be. Can someone tell me some drills I can do that might help?
Thanks in advance!
Heather
The farther the cue ball is from the object ball, the less useful "cutting with throw" becomes for controlling the cue ball. I think it is far less useful than some authors let on. Below is a test to see how far apart the balls can be and still get some useful movement (or lack of movement) on the cue ball. The goal is to get both balls to move to the left, or at least not have the cue ball move to the right. A more severe test is to require the object ball to be pocketed.2 I like are the balls in a circle drill, yes, throwing with English helps. Randy, am I missing something there?

I also like putting balls at every diamond in intersection on one end of the table. It helps with the angle off 1 rail skill which is key.
For general runout practice, I'm working on a game for myself like throw out 5 - 10 spaced balls. Miss your leave, add 1, miss shot, add 1-2, etc.
The key is not so much using drills with a name, the key is keeping dated notes on performance, in practice and under pressure. Then build drills or find drills to work on one missing skill for an hour or so. You must also right down something you did well everytime, so you can reflect on your skill strengths. My rules: min, 1 positive note everytime. Max 3 negatives. List your goal and roughly document your practices. This is basic coaching. Since we are relative amateurs, be sure to document what other higher skilled players say about you also, but ask yourself, really, could that be true?
Looking for a good way to develop my cb off 2 rails position prediction...Any ideas?
