How do you feel about someone that 'catches' a dump? Are they equal to the person dumping or not so guilty?

I think they are equally as guilty.
 
When I READ about this topic on a forum, I envision a bunch of chattering railbirds discussing matters and then making innuendoes, insinuations, posting pictures trying to convey falsehoods when they have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of the game.

In fact, this entire thread makes me feel like I need to go have a dump. :rolleyes:

No doubt about it!!! A conspiracy to dump is equally wrong for both parties!!! I would thin that everyone has this same opinion! Or at least I hope so!!:rolleyes:

Absolutely!!! Every time I have been offered one it has offended me, disappointed me about the person asking, but made me glad to know that the person just outed themselves to me and I know better for future reference.... The very last thing on Earth I want my name associated with is dumping!

Some take offense when the negative things about this sport are brought to the table...no matter, everything needs to be discussed whether the offender is a respected person or not...maybe, just maybe taking these respected players in the community off their pedestal and calling them for what they are is just the cleansing this sport needs. I am not insinuating anything about anybody...just saying in general maybe this sport needs to be purged and cleansed!!!:sorry:

Some are righteous because they have never done it!! And others are righteous because they won't talk about it!!!:sorry::rolleyes:

How often is there a situation where Player A gets in with the other guys backer to dump for a bigger cut. What if player B has no knowledge of it, but realizes in the match that A is dumping?

I've only personally been offered a dump once and me and my player and other backers flat turned it down. Catching is just as bad as dumping. Same thing in my opinion.

The only thing I feel is ok is when I get good info that there might be some business going on and bet that way. I liken this scenario to getting inside info on a ballgame. While I feel bad for the party receiving the dump, I might as well get my money on the good side. Of course, in this scenario, the info. might not be right and you lose and feel stupid, but like Mike McDermott says in Rounders quoting a well known gambler, "Caveat Emptor Pal".

Seriously though... It IS stealing (catching and dumping). It's not "like" stealing, it is stealing. I assume there's been some blood spilled over blown covers. I hope so anyway.
 
What really gets me is when someone offers a dump, you tell them "No thanks...", and then they say something like "No, really, it will stay between us... Don't tell me you've never done it". They can't believe that everyone doesn't do it, like it makes perfect sense!

You got that right on your rep comment Steve..... LOL

the same people usually end up in jail, beat up, or dead because they apply the same rationale to everything.

Would you bet that way with the person staking the match and getting dumped or only with someone on the side?

Yup, they are partners in the crime.

Back when I played in 89-92 I was no world beater, prolly a "B" at best. But I was in some little league action every day.

A local scumbag and I got woofing at each other, we didn't like each other, I knew I could crush him, so I let him keep woofing until he stepped in it, in front of a bar full of people. We made a game for $500 which was more than I had ever played for, and big money for 1992.

So we head over to the room where we're going to play. He's left a message to go next door and call him. I have no interest in talking to him but my partner / buddy calls him.

Before he even got back, it dawned on me, someone had told him he couldn't win, and he was looking to kiss and make up and put the fix in.

I was right. He wanted to bring his backer in, dump two sets and get one back, netting us each $500.

No dice!

I was so concerned rumors would get around, I refused to be in the room with him.

The good news (if there is any) was that word got around I REFUSED a dump, and I was a "stand up guy".

Don't get me wrong, I was broke, needed the money, but not like that. Bashing a guy's car window in and taking his wallet has more class than a dump.

If I was friends with whomever was getting dumped I'd tell them the info. I got before hand. A little off topic, but I got chastised by a couple of people one time for telling a friend that he had no chance in a proposed game by a pro that he didn't know. They said I shouldn't have knocked their action. I replied with, I consider you an aquantance but the other guy is a friend and he asked my opinion of the match. I basically told the pro to f@#$ off if he didn't like it.

To answer your question better, I'm not sure if I'd directly bet with the staker. If I didn't know them at all then maybe, but it's never came up to that exact scenario. The times I've gotten a little info. as to possible business, I've bet on the side.
 
When the fix is in pray to God you are out. I know of people getting killed over all types of cheats, bad dice games and marked cards top the list. Pool though is just tough to know. A bad day at the office looks exactly like a good dump which sucks. I’ve never directly had someone ask me to fix a game but a player I staked was asked to dump and they came and told me they wanted to because of the guaranteed money in a tough game. He’s still a friend of mine, I didn’t stake him that day and he didn’t play that day. I will say ever since that day(about a year or so ago) I try to avoid any action where I don’t know everyone involved. It’s the reason I only bet cheap online. It’s the reason people don’t blindly matchup anymore. If I had to bet though, I’d say at some point I or someone I know has been dumped to or someone I staked has dumped me I’d bet on it.

Someone has said it on here and it’s true. Unless you are in the very inner circle of the dump it’s near impossible to ever truly know. It’s not something people talk about and once you get a rep for not going for that stuff it seems like the business flys over you however by no means does that mean you avoid it. Most people who have staked matches at some point have probably been on one side or the other of a good dump and just didn’t know it and probably never will know it. I like action, but don’t love it for this reason. I hope threads like this can shine a spot light on the dump artists of the game and people can get them out of it, but that’s too big a dream. We have a better chance of having an asian woman president in the US.
 
I know what dumping is but what is "catching"? I have been lucky enough to not experience a dump and hope i never do.
