Earl and the Mosconi

Earl hired a publicist. So far they are doing an excellent t job.

As stated earlier in the thread, it is all about ratings, and Earl can get people interested and watching.
Not that he does not deserve the spot, but I am sure the X Factor had something to do with Barry's decision
GO TEAM USA!

Then Earl made a wise decision. Other pro's could learn from that, and a recently demised (or maybe not) promotion could have used the same advice....

There is no question having Earl on the Mosconi Team adds excitement, and anticipation. Matchroom will be able to promote this even more this year. Earl still plays at a high level, so it's not just a ratings grab, either.

Marketing, in pro pool? What a concept.

Having been whooped 10-1 by Earl last night, I can certainly attest to the fact he still plays at a very high standard. He played a couple of wtf the shots that very people have the stroke or imagination to play.
He seems pretty excited about playing in the Mosconi as well.

I think it's time to get some new blood on the Mosconi team.

Earl was great in the past, but nowadays he is too easy to put on tilt. It doesn't take a whole lot

There are plenty of young guns that would be great for the team.

promoting the game in "Atomic" fashion

Yes, everyone, we're getting the "band back together," and our favorite "hits" are playing, marketing and promoting pool. It's cool to be working with Earl and the group again, I hope other professional players get involved in promoting the game in "Atomic" fashion. ;) thegameistheteacher@gmail.com

So, the question remains....

Are you on a mission from God?

:D

So does this mean you've been chosen as team captain again? I must have missed that (not unusual, as I don't read every day...and sometimes miss a week or two). No matter...good luck to all the US Mosconi Cup team members!

Was this at Steinway? I was hoping Earl would be in NYC this week as my wife and I are visiting NYC this week. Was hoping to stop in and see Earl matching up with somebody

Really how has that worked out for Bogus Ball
Do you honestly believe a documentary on Earl will have a sudden impact on the pool world ,, I hardly think so
Many people believe pool grew in part because of the color of money that's a misconception , the APA was the reason pool was growing so fast in those yrs the marketing tactics and big sponsorship was what propelled them to bring the biggest pool league in the world leaving all others in their dust

However the APA is not by any stretch a spectator sport your lucky if you see any more than a handful of spectators watching a finals match

By far and away the most entertaining pool I have ever witnessed was the pit at VF , with Kieth McCreedy ,Ryan McCreesh , Frankie Hernandez .Bobby Pickle , Pooky , Eddie Abraham . and a few others , people would be standing on tables just to get a peek at the entertainment and entertaining it was, after all that's what sports is ,entertainment and that's exactly what tournament pool is not , and that's why it's in the shape it's in . It's simply not entertaining for the most part , the MC is by far the most entertaining pool you will see on the tube and the FANS love it
The Viewing Fans . Yes is the Teacher , pay attention and you can see what is selling , shows like Honey Boo Boo call of the Wild Man , Duck dynasty , are the type of shows that's trending because there entertaining
2 stiffs playing pool just simply is not entertainment , put some life and some personality in the game and its got a small shot of success

TCOM was the reason for the pool boom. Leagues grew because of that. TCOM also sparked pool worldwide not just in the USA. The link between popular movies and trends is well established. Google pinot noir if you don't think so.

Mass Media is the teacher.

Earl will most likely be playing in the Monday night tournament at Steinway. If you don't catch him tonight, he will definitely be there on Wednesday. He is probably firing in balls on the 5 x 10 right now at Steinway.

Thanks. I won't be getting there until tomorrow. We'll have to go there on Wednesday night.

The 2 biggest APA accounts are in my area and were started by friends of mine they built those leagues door to door just like Tap and the BCA did
Sure there was a small spike from the color of money and if Tiger woods picked his nose this weekend a few would follow that lead also

There was no spike to speak of after the Hustler , pool hall junkies or that APA series so why would anyone believe simply putting pool in the media will propel it to much more than it is if it stays in its current form ,, that might work in places outside America where Benny Hill and the gong show are on prime time TV
The media will get u to Fans and they will dictate the success , because the Fans are the teacher

The Hustler sparked a huge boom in pool.

Again, the impact of media and movies driving cultural trends is well documented by sociologists and marketers. There is big reason why toy production is planned well ahead of big cartoon movies.

Your comment was that TCOM was not responsible for the 90s pool boom. Ask McDermott how rapidly their sales increased in the year following TCOM.

TCOM was in 1986 by time the 90s rolled around it was long forgotten . I agree with marketing tactics however that's mass advertising that takes millions just to get that ball rolling , who's putting up that cash of course you have to have a product that will carry its weight , pool has yet to prove it can do that to the level the pipe dreamers believe it should be at

When's the last time you saw a bowling commercial yet they have a pretty good tour and can be seen quite regular on TV ,
At the end of the day if pool can be anywhere near that it would be doing something
IMHO however there are those that really hit the pipe that believe they are in the class of golf to them I say smoke another one ain't happening

As the forthcoming Mosconi Cup is episode 20 in the series, it was obvious that MATCHOOM were figuring something different to mark the anniversary.

So it is no real suprise to find Earl's name on the roster.

All traditional selection methods are on hold so you could see more surprises before the dust finally settles

I don't see anything on Earls facebook page about the mosconi cup?

About 6 wks ago sky TV had traveled to Ireland to film some exhibitions for an upcoming pre Mosconi cup documentary on the life of Earl Strickland which will be shown as the build up the Mosconi cup in Las Vegas in December......a lot of people were asking if Strickland would be on the team but it has been confirmed hrs ago that Strickland will yet again represent his country, this is great for all pool and Strickland fans and especially sky sports as i expect the ratings to go through the roof this year.

Personally im delighted for earl as he has dedicated everything to the game he loves and is passionate for,he is a great leader and good to see him back. On another note the upcoming UK and Ireland tour early next yr will receive a big boost with the latest Mosconi reports, dates 4 the tour will be released on September 3rd after the Ginky memorial tour is played in New York. This will be a 16 day tour and atm we have 10 nights reserved. Wheres Earl Strickland goin? he is going around the world.

Just so everybody knows there were loads of typos on this post off of Earl's wall. It truly is amazing how many people out there can't type or speak our language properly. Its like they never got past the 4th grade
