Earl, Earl, Earl

missed

He needed to take an Archer moment(s) and then shoot. Too bad, was rooting for the guy.

I agree, in teaching my grandson the game he is a great shoot maker, but he as earl does he gets in such a shooting frenzy he dont slow down middle of run , so he gets out of line , or loose [focus] as a old ex-drill sgt, i shout at him to finish!!!! i guess i am hard on him at times but i see his mistacks, but cant slow him down----any suggestions????:confused:p.s. he is #42 in the picture, beat mike segial in exabition game at the age of 9yr old!!!! proud grandpa!!!!

You should be proud GrandPa, He looks like a handsome young man.
Some players cant slow down and play better when in their own tempo. If they slow down they wont play the same.

Just be supportive and eventually he will learn to slow down for the "critical" shots.

The match wasn't over when Earl missed the shot. The balls were laying where it was a fairly tough cut into the same pocket for all the marbles or I think the bank shot might have been easier.
Hu

Earl jumped up on the last shot. The shot Bustamante was left with after Earl's miss was pretty easy. The 10 ball was less than a diamond away from the pocket, and a couple of inches off the cushion, while the cueball was two diamonds out from the other corner pocket, and at least six inches off the cushion. A pretty easy cut shot for Busty.

He hit it bad........

Dogged the CHEESE

Hit it too hard and into the point.

If he hit it pocket speed it would have fallen in.

I feel bad for him, he played good.

I'm off topic, but I think you win the Avatar award for September..........

thanks and apologies!

Royce,

Thanks for the correction and my apologies. I didn't realize Earl had swapped shafts again. I knew about the "Earl special" OB shaft that had the extreme length pro taper put on it, I guess by Gulyassy. I tried one like it that was made for a local player, not my cup of tea but no reflection on your standard shafts. That is the curse of selling blanks or even completed shafts, like cues even if they get heavily modified they usually still tote your name.

It is a shame about Earl. He is still world class in every respect until his emotions get the better of him. I have chased sponsors and been a sponsor, like you I had to pass on a few gifted people that didn't project an image I wanted for my company. I may sponsor a pool player in the not too distant future, we are talking. He is a talented player but equally important I would be very happy to have him representing my business as a person.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse but I'm building on my third workshop since Katrina and already have the land to build my fourth! I'm thinking I may have found my niche building shops, not cues. When I get rolling again I will be talking to you about some of the OB-2 blanks, I'm moving away from a pro taper.

The correction was sincerely appreciated, I hate giving out bad info!

Hu,

Thanks for the confidence in our equipment, but I have to correct you. Earl does not play with our cue shafts.

A couple of years ago, Earl did start using a heavily modified OB-1 cue shaft. Mike Gulyassy fixed them up for Earl, and he played great with them. He even asked us to sponsor him at the time. Unfortunately, Earls antics and demeanor are not quite what we choose to put our name on so we had to decline. I would love to see Earl gain back the respect that his game had acquired him long ago, but his actions have lost for him now. If he were able to do that, I might consider the request again. Earl is a great player with tremendous talent. I hope he gets the rest back together soon.

I just watched the shot a couple times, and I don't feel that Earl dogged it.

He hit it with only a medium pace, and it looked like the pocket should have accepted it but did not.

After the match he set up the same shot and hit it with a slow pace and the pocket accepted it but it almost looked like it didn't want to.

I watched part of the Nevel/Archer match earlier and Nevel got burned by the same pocket so many times, it looked like he was about to go postal :P

I agree - he didn't rush the shot and shot it pretty good. I honestly feel if it was another pocket, it would have gone in.

What's the deal with all of his extra equipment from his but pan to his gloves and arm rest thing???

Welcome to the board h8.

Well I dont know about the butt pan LOL, I assume thats his back brace but I havent watched him play in a while so maybe he has added another piece of equipment.

His arm brace is to help keep him from jumping up on shots. Which he would probably admit is just a band aid for him to battle his inner demons.

I was only able to see a little of his match with Efren, but hope to go back and watch some of the others if they have them recorded.

what is really odd

That pocket was done wrong.

Joey,

What is really odd is that they swapped out that entire TV table after attempts to make the same pocket on the first one quit playing funny. I don't know if it is the lights or something the mechanics are doing . . . played on enough Diamonds that I can't believe it is the table itself but it is strange that the same pocket plays odd on both tables. In the one pocket matches somebody had to play that devil pocket for the whole game and in the ten ball it was obvious that Bustamonte went to some efforts to dodge playing into it a few times.

Hu, haven't you ever heard of the Pool Gods? They are real and show up in the most unexpected places. I saw one in Galveston this week that looked just like Billy Incardona.

Jay,

It could indeed be the pool gods, they definitely have a sense of humor! I have watched a few great safeties played this week, well except for the minor detail that the pool gods nudged a ball in a hole leaving the player to deal with his own great safety!
