Earl for the money

For anyone who is truly interested in the whereabouts of Earl Strickland, please say a prayer for him. Earl is currently in extreme pain with kidney stones, two on the left and one on the right, and is undergoing excruciating medical treatment at the time of this writing.
Earl, if you even read this forum, Keith and I wish you a quick recovery and that you are soon out of the hospital and pain-free. We both are looking forward to seeing you back in the saddle again!

I may not be Earls biggest fan but I wouldn't wish that on anybody. I've had a few, one of which was 6mm long and just above my kidney and had to be surgically removed (through the front!)
Up until then, had no idea what pain really was.Hang in there Earl! And try not to shark the doctors!

I've had two and they aren't fun. I was begging for a shot of Demerol the second time.

Damn!! Ive often heard Kidney stones are in a class of their own as far as pain goes. There is no relief. You can twist, bend, jump up and down and the pain just continues relentlessly. You'd think as bad as they are, they'd have a way to deal with them by now that didnt involve torture but apparently they dont.
Nothing i say is gonna help one iota but no one deserves this. One day it WILL be just a bad memory. Hang in there Earl and "this too shall pass".
PS-Hopefully he still has coverage with Cuetech?

I'm not a die hard Earl fan either, but certainly don't wish him any pain or suffering and I hope for a speedy and complete recovery.
I also wish Earl a quick recovery. I also believe Earl was and still can be a world beater. The mind can be one's worst enemy, but it can also recover. I think once Earl gets physically and mentally healthier we may see his best game yet and noone has to like it
My close friend had one, and he said it's the worst pain you can imagine...constant agonizing torture. I visited him, he's a grown man and he was almost in tears, he just couldn't take it. What I didn't understand was that they only gave him two Vicodin per day...and they only last 2-4 hours each. You would think that with the extreme pain it causes, they would put you on Oxycontin or MS-contin, you know, the real heavy stuff. Vicodin even at 10mg isn't jack squat compared to those. I felt so bad for him I wanted to call his doctor and cuss him out.

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen Earl competing in tournaments when he was literally suffering from these kidney stones.
Once was at the 10-Ball Challenge in Atlantic City about 3 or 4 years ago. Between matches, Earl had to go to the emergency room, but he still returned the next day to play pool in the tournament.
Another instance was at the Carolinas Open in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Earl had just returned from Europe, literally just got off a plane and headed for the pool room to play in the 9-ball event. He was suffering a great deal of pain, but he still tried to give it his all in the tournament. This was the first time I saw Earl wearing those sports goggles.
Here is an American pool champion with a long list of championship titles, and the American pool culture seems to be more interested in his separation from Cuetec, a company he promoted for 17 years in good health. Today, Earl is battling this medical problem, but he's a fighter, and I know he will overcome it with good medical care.
It is very sad, indeed, that nobody seems to give a damn about Earl the person, this American legend that has done more for American pool than most know. Today, some in the American pool culture are only interested in the champion Filipinos, Dragon boys, Asian-Pacific Islanders, and European tournament soldiers.
Earl is an American champion, one of the few who are still alive today. The current lot of American professional players is dwindling right before our eyes. Soon there will be only a handful of American pool professionals, and pool will then take its rightful place elsewhere and not on American soil.
I will always root for the home team. USA, all the way. USA, all the way. USA, all the way. And I stand in the minority today. God bless Earl Strickland and the American professional pool players.

Earl has alot of heart, despite what other people say. When it comes to closing out a set, no matter what the score is, and what's on the line, Earl is the best at it. Everyone else gets a little edgy and tentative when they get on the hill. Earl just freestrokes and runs out like he's practicing by himself. He shoots with no fear. Earl has got to be the best pressure-player in the history of pool IMO. Five US Open's and three World 9ball Championships? Nobody will ever surpass that achievement. I hope he gets better soon.
For many of us in our 30's, Earl is the reason we got into pool. While many of my friends watched Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky growing up, I just wanted to watch Earl play. To this day, I can think of very few athletes that look as "at home" with their sport as Earl does when he is on. I look forward to his full recovery, and a return of the legend that everyone seems so quick to write off. Get well Earl.

You know, I'm looking at Earls situation with a lot of hope. No better story would it be then for him to go through this low period and come out the other side on top again. He's by no means "old" and knows more about the game than all but maybe a handful. And the killer is He knows how to WIN!
I would be the most surprised and angry person not to see Earl get his sh*t together and be on top again.
Like others have said, when the man is on you are witnessing the greatest doing what he was born to do!

Nobody ever says George Washington is our 2nd President...If people can know facts about guys like Presidents, then surely we pool fans should be able to properly quote & recite basic facts. NOBODY has more World 9 Ball Championships than Earl Strickland. He has 6....Let's not cut his accomplishments. Nobody says Hank Aaron has 303 home runs...Nobody says the U.S. has 46 states...

Other than that, you a a great poster and someone who 99% of the time, I enjoy reading and pondering your posts. This is not meant to be insulting to you in any way. I just think we need to bone up on our ABC's of Pocket Billiards history. Vetern posters should know better.
We don't decorate Easter eggs on the 4th of July...so let's not do that type thing to the pool stats and credentials of one of our all time greats.
